    So the developers didn't have a " thing" for Hersheypark while developing RCT3. Hershey actually helped fund the game in its developments so in turn the developers made sure there was a "Hersheypark" influence in the game. The same goes for RCT2 where there is Six Flags influence. Again during development. Six Flages helped fund the game. Now move on to Planet Coaster. That game had funding from no other, you guessed it! Cedar Fair! Hence alot of the coasters and modles are based off Cedar Fair coasters. It's all a big advertisement really. Your literally play and interacting with advertising while playing these games.

    Certain RCT3 ride reskins DO have real-world counterparts. The "shuttle" corkscrew trains are based off the original Disneyland Paris Space Mountain (before it's conversion to Hyperspace Mountain), the "Dragon" inverted trains are based off the now-defunct Dueling Dragons (Universal IOA), and there could certainly be others if you look hard enough!

    RCT3 is by far the game I've sunk the most hours into. Despite its graphics and coaster building system being outdated compared to Planet Coaster, I do think it still has its own unique charm and niche by letting you make waterparks and implement animal exhibits into your parks, something you cannot do in Planet Coaster, and of course all those more unique coaster types can't be made in Planet Coaster either sadly. Anyway, I'd say the splitting coaster looks the most interesting as far as coasters I'd want to see get made irl.

      @@JNattyBoi You're welcome! Sorry for replying a year later, but I only just found some interesting information on SBF's Tower Coaster (named the MX875 model). All of this comes from RCDB.
      The Tower Coaster that traveled the fair circuit (where it was named "Cool & Fresh") was acquired by a Dutch park named DippieDoe Attractiepark in 2007. It was rumored that it would be part of a new area at the park, but it was never set up, remaining in storage until the following year (2008), where it was moved to the Australian fair circuit.
      It seems like it was more recently purchased by Wonderland Eurasia (called Ankapark up to a month before opening, after the city of Ankara, Turkey it was located at), with the same paint scheme and theming of the cars in the photos. It was named "Migfer" (Turkish for "helmet") and set up with some theming elements, but Melih Gökçek, the former mayor of Ankara who came up with the idea for the park, was put under a corruption investigation related to usage of funding, including for the park, and was removed from office, resulting in construction being halted in 2017. His successor is not in favor of the park, but acknowledged the investment put into it and suggested that its future be determined by a referendum. Little information is known after this point, but it seems, as recent as May 2018, the lease was granted, and an offer has been made by a company to purchase the park. The park does appear to have operated briefly in 2019, with some of the other rides having photos of people on them, but as of 2020, the park, and all 17 of its coasters, is standing but not operating.

  • @vitalepitts
    @vitalepitts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    I think this game really holds up, the scenarios are kinda laughably easy, but that just allows for more creativity faster imo. I love how far Frontier has gone with planet coaster, but the simplicity of this game allows for you to create a satisfying park without needing to be a dual engineering/art major

    • @FishGamingReal
      @FishGamingReal ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's only really a few hard-ish scenarios, New Blood i've personally had problems with, since there's barely any land, and you have to deal with free rides. Which in turn, makes it an upward battle to meet the 600 guest limit on the Tycoon objectives

    • @evandaymon8303
      @evandaymon8303 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wouldn't say easy ether. There is new blood which gives you a hard challenge since rides are free so you have to rely on stands and there is one that is on islands where you have to build a certain coaster at a maximum limit but it is bugged so you have to start over from scratch and build multiples of them to beat it as well as pay off loan early

    I feel as if this game aged a lot better than most people give it credit for. Everyone always talks about RCT2 as if it’s the only good game in the series, but I think 3 holds its own really well and expands on its ideas. It’s also the most forgiving, user friendly, and content focused, which is why it was the one I played the most as a kid and is still my favorite. RCT2 is special for sure, but RCT3 feels even more so, especially since it was from a completely different development team that succeeded at it. It was so influential in fact that Frontier had to buy back the rights to the publishing rights of this specific game from “Atari”, as they want nothing to do with it.
    I’m very surprised to hear that all of the coaster types used in this game were actually based on something, I always thought that some of them were so outlandish because they wanted to test the game’s physics and engine, which isn’t entirely wrong to think like that by the way since this was a PC game back in 2004, so it was a very ambitious game for its specs and time. It’s a shame that they still haven’t put any of the prototype designs into Planet Coaster yet though. I know they aren’t relevant anymore and won’t be built, but they would still be very cool to use and see.
    Anyways, I’m very happy that this game was re-released on PC and Switch. It actually plays on the latter surprisingly well once you get the hang of it, and it’s really good for people like me who can’t afford decent computers anymore. (Seriously, most of them go into for over a thousand dollars, it’s absurd) It warms my heart to see this game not being forgotten by not just the fans, but the developers themselves too. RCT3 Complete Edition and RCT Classic should be preserved and constantly re-released for generations.

      The game mechanics are good, but the graphics didn't age well at all. RCT2 with the pixelated graphics still looks great

    • @JNattyBoi
      @JNattyBoi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Couldn't agree more. Between all the new coaster types and the new mechanics added in the expansions (pools and animals), there's just so much to do in this game. You're very right about the approachability and user-friendliness. When I was younger, I definitely played RCT3 more than RCT2 because of that - I felt like I had so much more creative freedom with the new terrain tools and the 3D graphics. I had a lot more fun than I excepted to re-visiting it for this video. Maybe this is just nostalgia talking, but I feel like it has a charm all its own. Thanks for the comment!

    • @ZacharyDietze
      @ZacharyDietze 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@gustavrshThe graphics don’t look any worse than a game like Super Mario 64, and they had to replicate that look for a much bigger and complex game. In fact, it still actually looks better than that, and you don’t need to look far to see drastic comparisons, you only need to look at the water used in both themselves.
      Again, I think both aged significantly better than many people give them credit for, especially now with the 90’s 3D graphics art style making a comeback in other games. The blocky polygons and low res textures just gives video games from that era a lot more charm than if they were a lot cleaner otherwise, like Planet Coaster. (Which looks good in its own way and is similar to RCT3 in art design, but it still doesn’t capture that style perfectly, it was a lightning in a bottle situation) Basically what I’m saying is that both the PS1/N64/early 3D PC games are just as nostalgic as pixelated games. One can make a case for how RCT2 didn’t exactly age too well with how restrictive some things are either, especially in regards to moving around in special dimensions, but I still think both RCT2 and 3 are classics in their own ways. Maybe I’m just a sucker for those more crudely made 3D games since I was born around the time those were in their prime, but I still think they look nice when done right. The best example of early 3D games I think is stuff from Rareware, with games like Banjo-Kazooie, Conker’s Bad Fur Day, and so on, and they still look just as colorful now as they did when they first came out. Are they perfect? Definitely not. Would they all make for great remasters like the Crash and Spyro games got? Absolutely yes. But it’s not like they’re not good as is, especially for the times they all came out, that’s just not true at all.
      Besides, not everything is about the graphics anyways, it’s about the gameplay. How it is to actually *play* the game is a lot more important, and all 3 original RCT games play spectacularly.

    I knew where most of these coasters came from, but some of them - like the Splitting Coaster - have baffled me for years! It’s crazy to see how forward thinking the developers were, especially considering most of these concept-coasters would’ve only been revealed within a year or so of release.
    As for what I’d like to see in real life… the Splitting Coaster! I think there are so many interesting things a park could do with it. I’d also love to see a park tackle a true Robo Coaster - I think the extra dynamic of a coaster track could make for an epic dark ride/coaster hybrid!

There were custom supports, custom train sets, and a whole bunch of other cool stuff To me, RCT3 is actually my favourite, even though I discovered the RCT franchise with the first game when I was just a 6 year old kid. Also ironically, the Stormrunner design was actually the preferred choice for re-creating Top Thrill Dragster because of it's very smooth hills
