This is legit one of my favorite pieces I've ever played for school. It's so refreshing as a cello to get a piece that's actually slightly challenging instead of just playing the same note for measures on end. This is such a nice piece to listen to.
i played this song in seventh grade as a violist and looved it.. the good thing about meyer's pieces is that they are not violin-centered, and feature all the instruments in different sections.
@@Alice-gr1kb Ms. Soon Hee Newbold and her music is amazing, she needs to make more of her pieces. Right now, I think she is doing acting if I'm not mistaken.
The best high school orchestra piece of all time. Not only is it a difficult piece in ways that other pieces aren't, but the piece itself is an absolute banger the whole way through and gives every part at least some time in the spotlight. We tried playing this throughout my time in high school but couldn't put it together until my senior year, and while we've played some fun pieces, this one has stuck out to me more than any other piece we've played. Shoutout to mhchs
@@talonmcpherson8445 bro at least you got to play it. Our class just straight dropped it. I would practice it but its never the same as hearing it with everyone
Our class voted for which piece to play after sightreading each of them. There were ten, and this piece won even though it was by far the hardest piece mostly because us lower strings (Violists, cellists, bassists) were tired of not getting good parts. We haven't gotten far with it yet (literally one rehearsal + sightreading) and still have three months to rehearse it, but so far it's not going that great lol. I'm doubtful that our viola section (self included) will be able to make it without some intense practice. Luckily most of us seem willing to put in the effort. The first violins seemed willing to practice, especially w/ winter break coming up, and the rest of the lower strings are pretty enthusiastic about finally getting a good piece. Of course, there are still the second violins... Hopefully they won't drag us down.
Richard Meyer is a prodigy. I am a cellist and a composer too. I have played his composition Night Shift in a concert. It was fun. I have had one of my compositions preformed in a concert by my school Orchestra. Good job too him.
I love this song so much. It was the first grade 4 song I've ever played. I started practicing it in 6th grade, and I am in 7th grade now. I wish we we could play it in one of our concerts! If only everyone else could play it haha
I love this piece Richard Mayer is an amazing composer in fact my class has come up with a theory about this piece. We think that this sort of represents a walk through a graveyard specifically the gravestones of each of Bach’s Brandenburg‘s and then my teacher interpreted that every time the bass has a solo it’s a little transition to each of the grave stones so we thought that was kind of cool which does help us perform this piece better. Overall, amazing...just perfect.
dude so tricky. im a former cellist. played from 5th grade to 8th grade. loved it but had too much stress in 8th grade so i quit orchestra. now im a freshman. i still have my cello and i love it
i've played a lot of meyer's songs in the past such as joust and dragonhunter (both pretty easy) and this one sounds fun. maybe i'll reccomend it to my orchestra teacher.
ooohh yeah we’re learning it in orchestra and it’s pretty difficult although I’m a cello so it depends but after a while you get a hang of it and it becomes better
we have ONE (1) BASS in our orchestra so he’s soloing all of this, and he overpowers the 6 cellos. he’s awesome at it. also the section at 1:51 was PAIN to learn (violist here) but i practiced it so much it aggravated me but now its basically muscle memory 😭) we’re playing 2 other pieces with this one and my arm is so tired after this lol

Had to play this in my schools chamber as the solo bass, first concert of the year and my first year playing bass. Played it well enough the conductor cued a small applause and gave me the look, and of course it being the most complicated part of the solo and having lots of clapping I flubbed it. Fortunately no one noticed however
Flashbacks to playing the bass section half speed at concert because our basses were so bad 😂. Us violas weren’t great either tbh, but in the end it sounded awesome anyway. We had SOLID cellos and violins. Even seconds
I love this piece so much, the bass part sounds beautiful but only one guy plays bass😅 as I play second violin Im quite jealous of the first violins part
