As for the setting the timeline in fallout splits from ours after world war 2 and they never discovered the micro chip or micro transistor. Instead leaving them to rely on nuclear power/fission starting in the 50s setting the course for the fallout worlds timeline until the bombs fell in 2077.
What is great about this show is that not only does the game get referenced through easter eggs, but the show itself also expands on the fallout lore by answering questions we never got the answers too just by playing the game. The story rewards both new fans and old fans alike
The Vault-Boy Bobbleheads are indeed in the games. They're collectables that increase your stats, but you also have a thing in your safe house to display all the ones you find.
1:29 2077. In this universe they did not develop the transistor, so they did not have the same miniaturization that we had. However they did have massive developments in other fields, such as robotics or nuclear power. Almost everything, including the cars, robots or the power armors later on are powered by tiny nuclear reactors. 7:42 Not the only one... Scars, tattoos, eating manners, being amazed by clean running water, drinking straight out of a water pitcher... 14:18 They're both exoskeletons, but the power armors are, as the name implies, also heavily armored. 19:44 Templar Knight. 21:24 No, ghouls are one type of mutant. 1:05:47 First, it's a gulper. But it also looks different to the ones in the games (they do not have human features), for reasons you may or may not get in a later episode. Secondly, Maximus basically prolapsed his insides by pulling hard enough on Thaddeus, thanks to the strength of the armor. 1:07:15 The implication here is that Cooper is basically the OG Fallout Boy... Btw, what the hell happened with Gen V?
The Brotherhood in the show is radically different from the one in the games. In the games, they're an order who believe that the technology of the old world that was responsible for the end of the world is too dangerous to just give to people. So they instead horde tech and do lots of research. In the show they REALLY exaggerate the "religious" element. And Ghouls are a specific type of mutant. Specifically like a new subrace of humans. They're basically immune (sometimes healed by) radiation and they don't seem to die of old age. The problem is sometimes they go completely insane from being alive for a couple hundred years or from other causes. Hence why they refer to "feral" ghouls.
There were multiple branches of the Brotherhood and although their core mission remained the same, the way they went about it changed. Some were more active in helping the people (like Fallout 3), while others (like New Vegas) were not.
The Brotherhood has had pretty heavy religious associations since the first game. It just varies how far they go from area to area and leader to leader.
There is a fantheory to explain the new Romanization of their religious overtones though. The high cleric calls them a Legion instead of a chapter for a reason.
This is for real the best show with the best acting and writing I've seen in at LEAST a decade. I was so worried Lucy would be yet another "boss babe mary sue" but i was surprised in a good way. Yes she's moralistic, naive and a bad @$$ in her own way but she also lives by her ideals even when it's inconvenient for her to do so. The scean where max tells her the truth is so powerful in her character development as she gained the experience to know the world isn't as black and white as she once thought yet still chooses to find the good in people and situations
If you’re in the search for video game adaptations with good writing and acting, I highly recommend Arcane! It swept the Annie Awards (Animated Emmy’s) and, fun fact, Lucy from this show is the voice actor for the lead character in Arcane! Pretty cool.
Yes, Alex! Can’t wait to see you react to the second half :) I’ve never played the game but I watched this with my sister who is a long time player. We both absolutely loved it! It’s gorgeously shot, the way they use the colours and slip in so much clever iconography. Roll on season 2!
Johnny Pemberton, who plays Thaddeus. He’s from my hometown of Rochester, MN. He also played a customer at Baskin Robins in the first Ant Man movie. He’s the squire that’s brought in after Maximus takes his knights armor.
Somethings about lore: After nukes fell people went into bunkers called vaults build by Vault Tec - 9:09 - Stimpack - short for stimulation delivery package, is a type of hand-held medication used for boosting the body's own regenerative properties 10:36- Jet - Jet is a highly addictive chem/Drug commonly found throughout the wasteland. 13:32 These guys are Brotherhood Of steel - post-War technology-focused paramilitary order 14:00 T60 Power armor - Power armor development first began before the Great War in 2065 - 12 years before Nukes fell on USA 21:24 - Not every mutant is a ghoul - 2 main ones are Ghouls - Irradiated Humans, Can live 200+ years, Supermutants - humans exposed to FEV, there are also mutated insects 23:17- The Enclave - a Paramilitary Organsiation that hates communism and wants to restore US 28:20- That is not a Heli thats a Vertibird - Vertibird is a designation for a series of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft. 40:00 - yes they do
Most people catch/knew that the ghoul was the guy in the beginning. But I loved seeing the realization dawn on you when he said the line. Obviously the line is meant to be the tell, but a lot of others caught the voice, or knew the actor, beforehand so they didn't need the line. Seeing you need the line was cool, reacting as the writers intended in that moment lol.
The only problem with a Bioshock tv show are the little sisters :P. it's not easy to show little girls just stabbing corpses like it's a game. but at the same time it's the best part because you're supposed to gave them a life. Bioshock 1 have the best good ending for me.
"I wonder if those are in the game like all Easter Egged out..." That's one of the coolest things about this series. Pretty much EVERYTHING you see in this series is in the games. All the product brands, weapons, clothes, etc etc... The attention to detail is second to none :)

Fun fact: The reason why drugs are called "Chems" is because in the UK version of the original Fallout game they censored the words "drugs" into the new name for them "Chems". IIRC!
Something I'm consistently blown away by is how clever and subtle the writing for this show is. They aren't interested in infodumping or explaining every bit of game lore that leads up to the story, they prefer to just let the characters and world do the talking. There's so much they could've easily shoved into awkward, clunky dialogue, especially with Lucy being such a clear fish-out-of-water audience surrogate character, but instead they just let you *absorb* everything you need to know. It's brilliant!

Also, one of the shows executive producers, and also director for 3 episodes, is Jonathan Nolan, the brother of THE Christopher Nolan (Interstellar, Inception, The Dark Knight, etc.)
So there is hope Benny could be in Season 2??? 😍😍😍
Loved this mate. When will the rest be available?
The Ghoul is my favorite character. It doesn't hurt that he's played by the phenomenal Walton Goggins.
Was half watching did he realize Walton Goggins is the ghoul or is that revelation still to come for him?
@@Midv1322 I had to stop about halfway through because I got busy but I just finished and he never noticed but I'm not sure if he knows who Walton is. I feel like he's not realizing that he's seen him before in Django Unchained.
@@neopagn2004 Yea I get it he’s a character actor. I knew before the show started goggins was the ghoul so I don’t recall if there’s a point in the show that they make it blatantly obvious that it’s him in the flashbacks. Maybe when he sits down and watches the old tape of himself. I don’t remember
The reason he had to leave the dog is bc in game you can only have one companion with you
dog meat is the best
I wanted Betty to put on sunglasses and make some obscure Deadpool/Blind Al type reference. 😂
Thank you for this comment. I could not figure out where i knew her from
That, or doing a line of blow.
@43:48 "wait how did the Ghoul cutting that tube get his leg unstuck?" If you rewatch that scene and look at the Ghoul's feet you'll see him step on a board that was pinning Maximus in place {him getting stuck was a nod to people getting stuck in terrain in the games} so it wasn't the hose getting cut that freed him
Moldaver's "them or her" was brutal considering she then immediately told the rest to run. No purpose except exposing Hank to the others.
“I have this thing about people’s organs falling out” that would be called “normal” Alex😂😂😂
“I was gonna call him Damian” has me dying. That was so funny omg
Wait where's the rest of the reaction??
That's completely false the Brotherhood Of Steal has been a tech cult and raiders since the beginning.
The Brotherhood has had pretty heavy religious associations since the first game. It just varies how far they go from area to area and leader to leader.
The Brotherhood has always been a tech cult.
Yes, Alex! Can’t wait to see you react to the second half :)
I’ve never played the game but I watched this with my sister who is a long time player. We both absolutely loved it! It’s gorgeously shot, the way they use the colours and slip in so much clever iconography. Roll on season 2!
“Mr. Stark I don’t feel so good” with that opening 😂 I LOVE the editor’s notes
1:03:44 The Water chip broken is the very first quest you get in the very first Fallout game ever. Great callback.
Johnny Pemberton, who plays Thaddeus. He’s from my hometown of Rochester, MN. He also played a customer at Baskin Robins in the first Ant Man movie. He’s the squire that’s brought in after Maximus takes his knights armor.
He's a great actor ‼️
Somethings about lore:
After nukes fell people went into bunkers called vaults build by Vault Tec -
9:09 - Stimpack - short for stimulation delivery package, is a type of hand-held medication used for boosting the body's own regenerative properties
10:36- Jet - Jet is a highly addictive chem/Drug commonly found throughout the wasteland.
13:32 These guys are Brotherhood Of steel - post-War technology-focused paramilitary order
14:00 T60 Power armor - Power armor development first began before the Great War in 2065 - 12 years before Nukes fell on USA
21:24 - Not every mutant is a ghoul - 2 main ones are Ghouls - Irradiated Humans, Can live 200+ years, Supermutants - humans exposed to FEV, there are also mutated insects
23:17- The Enclave - a Paramilitary Organsiation that hates communism and wants to restore US
28:20- That is not a Heli thats a Vertibird - Vertibird is a designation for a series of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft.
40:00 - yes they do
Did we ever get a reaction to the rest of the episodes? I really want to watch them.
I never played the games but this show is phenomenal. I was shocked at how layered it is and how it constantly subverts expectations.
Where is the rest of the series! We're waiting! :P
He's probably finishing all the games before
@@Deathclaw_gameri dont think he would play all the video games they just want you to pay for the patreon
@@jackbeatty3867 yea true but what I said is a maybe
I'm crying at you getting immediately attached to Damien the Deer, just knowing what was coming 😂
When are we getting the sencond half... we're waiting for your reaction.
Is it weird I'm more hyped for an Alex Hefner reaction to the show more than I was hyped for the show itself?
Yes it is.
IT'S NOT
It is
Does anyone just watch Alex's videos coz its edited perfectly just enough to watch anything with my attention span 👍
Yes
"what year is it?"
Well ... Let's just say that its not the fifties, but retro is "in"
They need to do a "Bioshock" show, just like they did with this. Bioshock would be amazing, old timey music.
I think they actually are doing a BioShock show
That'd be amazing
Agreed
Supposedly, they have one in the making set just before the events of the games.
That scene of the knight being chased by the Yai Guai (Bear), reminded me of all the times I thought I could take one myself and then it immediately wrecked me !! 😂😂😂
“Is it your thumb or mine?” Might be one of my favourite lines in recent memory. It’s exactly the type of question a kid would ask, innocent but informed.
Fallout 3 was my 1st game of the franchise and it became the metric by which I judged every other game for years. Still one of my faves of all time. This series gave me so much happy nostalgia for it.
"I never had to repopulate the Earth." Not yet, things might change. Except war. War never changes :D
But people change, through the roads they walk...
Until you get nanomachines, son. Then war..... war has changed.
I never watched this show before and this is my first time checking it out via your reaction and i noticed something that i think is going to blow your mind. at 15:40 the black woman is Blind AL in deadpool !
The Fallout games brought me some of the best experiences in video games I have ever had. This show absolutely nailed that feeling of being immersed in the world. I highly recommend Fallout 4. The game and it's DLC are great, and I got 100's of hours more out of it with mods.
Don't care what anyone says, fallout 4 is the best one of the lot!
@@matthewward2058 For me, New Vegas has the best story. Yet, 4 will always be my favorite because it was my first Fallout game
Tbh beating childrens hands with a ruler was standard practice in schools back in the day. (before lightbulbs era)
Wasn't so long ago in parochial schools, either.
"Before lightbulbs." Bro, it was happening in the 70s and 80s, wtf you mean?
@@CuidightheachODuinn happened around 2010 still too in certain areas of america, the bible belt is nuts
Fun fact: The reason why drugs are called "Chems" is because in the UK version of the original Fallout game they censored the words "drugs" into the new name for them "Chems". IIRC!
Do the rest of the episodes please
I had high expectations for this show and they actually exceeded them. Was a very good first season.
Watch the rest of the episodes!!
He’s finally watching it !!
Please continue watching Fallout 🙏 I quite literally just finished watching it myself with my dad and UGHHH it was so good!!
Coming from two people who never played the games. I know very little and he knows absolutely nothing, and we both enjoyed it a lot 🤟
ALEX! You MUST finish Fallout!
WHEN IS THE OTHER HALF OF FALLOUT RELEASING ALEX?? I NEEEDD ITTT!!
Nice video, are you planning to do the rest of the series, I hope so. Greetings from Mexico.
For the people waiting, he said in a recent video that he's not planning on making another youtube video of Fallout, but the rest of the reaction is already on his Patreon.
thankyou
Alex and Editor man def needa play these games at some point
Do you get to play as ghoul please says yes that guy Fire character!!
@@ImagineStudios60 red guy??
As an AVID Fallout player, I was SCREAMING throughout this reaction because I recognise EVERYTHING.
Just so you know Alex, the Fallout series is set in Los Angeles and the most recent games are set in Washington DC, Vegas and Boston.
React to the rest of it!!!!
“This world is amazing!” Little does he know what some of the vaults are for.
Tomorrow never came
I couldnt help but think of Alex when the "weirdest circle jerk ive ever been to" line came up. Feels like the kinda joke he'd make. 😂
Fun Fact: the guy who plays Lucy's dad in the show plays Paul Atreides in the original 80s dune movie
I love hearing the new to the series perspectives, I watched it with my mom who has never payed attention to the games despite my dad and me both playing them for years, and her reactions to things I didn't even think twice about, because of course they were there it made so much sense that I didn't even notice, made me realize just how good this show is 😩
I am waiting to see how long it takes Alex to notice Betty is also “Blind Al” from Deadpool. 😆😂🤣
A long time!
My guy, I've been liking, commenting, and subscribed for every video for the last few weeks just for this. Now, I feast.
I appreciate that ❤️❤️🥹
9:26 "What a wedding day, huh?"
You obviously haven't seen Ready or Not 🤣
He should do that movie and The Babysitter
@@JennaIsOverIt Oh you are so right!!! He should!
Or Game of Thrones, or Kill Bill or.......
@@absolutezero6423 ... or Lord of the Rings lol
I would LOVE to see you play Fallout 3 (& NV, but 3 first lol). I feel like your humor would line up with the game's humor pretty well
Hahaha Dylan’s face covering Monty’s butt is hilarious 💀
4:03 fun fact, this vault boy figure supposed to have a minigun, if you look at it.
59:47 That's an axolotl gulper.
Will there be a part 2 of reacting to Fallout?
Great video. Hope you do a part 2
Now that Alex is watching fallout, and enjoys the actress who plays Lucy. He NEEDS! to watch "Arcane" after he finishes the season
Perfectly in time with Arcane Season 2 coming out in November, too
You need to watch the rest of the series!!!!
I learned something new about myself today. I had at least 4 other reactions to watch today. All were shorter. But I clicked on yours, not because of the show. Frankly I’m a little burned out on Fallout. But because of you. Weird. Now we both know I prefer your content at this time. Nice
this comment makes me extremely happy
You know he was from Hannah Montana cause Rico was the GOAT fr 😂😂 bro is underrated. I haven't seen him since then, and he kills this role too
Where the hell are the rest of the episodes
Sim, ele simplesmente se empolgou com The Boys e deixou Fallout de lado! 😂🥲
Love you sm this guy actually cares about his viewers
Is there. Ever gonna be another vid for fallout on TH-cam ?
Guess not bc it’s been 4 months lol
You should have left us with an "okey dokey" LOL Glad you're enjoying the Fallout journey!
Bombs fell in 2077 everything looks old timey due to the transistor being invented in 2067 when in our timeline the first mass producible ones were made in 1947 so Fallouts technology is more analogue.
Fallouts aesthetic is called retrofuturism basically what people in the past thought the future would look like in this case its what people from the 1950's thought the future would look like. It also falls under the aesthetic of "atomicpunk"
Ive watched more than several reactions of this show after seeing it myself, and I have to tbh, your reaction for one who has never played the game or know anything about this lore was entertaining! Great job man, you won me over. Wanna rewatch the rest with you, lets go.
Idk if you knew this but the ghoul in fallout is also Cecil in invincible
Man it's funny how likable you are for me. I truly enjoy your reactions!
Wish I had a friend that's half as much invested into this to watch movies with.
(german trying english so please don't judge)
"I dont know the premise of the show"
well idk anymore, I guess "FALLOUT" isnt on the nose enough
He probably thought it was a show about some really good friends having a fall out
Alex's thoughts when hearing of fallout:
"I wonder what they fell out over"
The Gulper design is based on an axolotl. The ones in the games look more like fire salamanders, but can walk upright.
