I'm curious what the stance would be in making a change to a part common in newer models of a handgun series, such as throwing a D spring in a legacy model of Beretta, since it is factory in most of their newest offerings. It doesn't disable safeties and it doesn't drop the trigger weight below any thresholds, but it does make the trigger lighter
Really informative-- really appreciate listening to Massad. I recently went through a reputable place in CZ Custom to smooth out my triggers on my p-07 and p-01 omega models. With the swapped out hammer and recoil springs, the DA weight came down to about 7.75 lbs, and the SA pull is now 3.5-3.75 lbs. The did some polishing as well. The trigger is much smoother on the p-07 than on the p-01. It makes me wonder if I'm at risk having modified them after watching this video, if the 'standard' is considered 4 lbs for any striker fired or SA gun pull, even though I went through a place who modifies thousands of CZ's for both competition as well as personal defense.
Exactly why I love Walther's PPQ / PDP with the manufacturers flat metal trigger installed and not the competition trigger springs keeping the factory duty trigger pull weight.
Thank you for the great info in this video. Was considering a trigger upgrade on my sd9ve. Drop the standard 8-10lb trigger pull down closer to 5-6lbs. I decided to reached out to Smith & Wesson first, to find out what thier min trigger weight spec is from the factory, and they actually recommend a 6-7lb trigger as the min. The trigger upgrade would have dropped the pull weight below what the factory recommends.

I did exactly that with my Shield. My G19 has a 4.5# Ghost connector. My EDC is a P365 with a stock trigger. Trigger pull is between 4.5 and 5 lbs and all 3 are smooth with similar trigger pulls. Consistency within established limits is my goal.

Mr. Ayoob pretty much confirmed everything I've been telling students for years. One thing I also tell them is to ditch things like stickers or signs that have "cute" little quotes on them. I tell them to picture the jury as though they're a bunch of rabid anti-gunners, and it was their kid you shot. Cause the last thing you need is the DA showing them pictures of you wearing a shirt that says "When In Doubt, Shoot Em Again".
@@papimaximus95 you really don't understand that there are civil and criminal proceedings. The standard of proof in a civil proceeding is lower than criminal court and you can get hammered for negligence. If they can paint you out to be some "badass" who can't wait to shoot someone and runs around with t-shirts and decals advertising as such, then good luck taking your chances with your assets on the line. Ayoob is giving solid advice. It also goes to state of mind even in a criminal case if lawyers want to paint you as someone who can't wait to shoot someone to argue your use of force was not lawful.
@Papi Maximus it’s about the perception the jurors have of you and not the technicality of the law as written. People can be emotionally manipulated with a narrative, and that’s what this is all about. It shouldn’t affect the trial facts and whatnot, but it does to a degree.
Stickers, shirts, online posts. Unless you are comfortable with it being shown in a court room don't put it out there. @@papimaximus95 Its not about the justification of the use of force, its about the jury's perception of you. You cant live in some fantasy world where the only thing that matters is right and wrong. Thats not the world we live in. How the jury perceives you is 100% the difference between life in jail and free on the streets.
My 1911 has a short reach trigger for my small hands and has had the action smoothed but the pull was never reduced. Likewise my S&W Model 60 had the serrations for the trigger removed and the trigger polished smooth. I am not looking to lighten any factory pull for a carry gun but I will make it smoother.

Perfect logic for the use of a brace on the AR pistol 💁🏻♀️
Good stuff. Mas becomes even more legendary for carrying an LTT 😎
Would simply polishing trigger components for smooth operation be considered a questionable modification?
This is the first I’ve heard this info. Great info! 👍
Great info and discussion. Thank you
Tangentially related, enjoy this clip from John Mulaney on your past coming back to haunt you in court. th-cam.com/video/JkSQk88e4DM/w-d-xo.html The part in question only goes to 1:42 but it is certainly entertaining.
@@papimaximus95 Its not about the justification of the use of force, its about the jury's perception of you. You cant live in some fantasy world where the only thing that matters is right and wrong. Thats not the world we live in. How the jury perceives you is 100% the difference between life in jail and free on the streets.
@@papimaximus95 just admit you're wrong
That was most excellent!!! Thanks!
Great great info from the legend himself!!! Thank you for this. I have ofteb wondered about this!
Tyvm
So glad I watched this video
Also, don't use a "Shake Weight." They will say you made your hands stronger so the trigger will be lighter. It might go off in your hand! :)
The smiley face isnt enough for alot yo know this is a joke. God help them😂
Hahahahahaha😂😆😂😆
When do we get to hear the story of how Massad participated in your defense? If you already uploaded it can you provide the link?
Great information.
Great perspective reflective of actual case-based standards AND golden pipes? What's not to like??
Thank very much for putting us straight.
And glad I didn't remove the safety on my M&P 40c..the only gun I own with one..
Luckily I practice sweeping it off and on
when I carry, it's a summer carry mostly.
But good information 👍
Outstanding advice!
Thank you for sharing your insights.
