After looking at blog, idk. Rt now, giving plum oil a go in my conditioners. It has very positive rates for absorption on hair follicles.. we shall see.. if it does. Next is scent. Color?? Ahhhh pale purple blue. Undecided about products. I've taken your ideas, my ideas, thrown them around. Now trying them.x fingers I don't trash to many.
All else fails. I'll add oatmeal, use it on my pomeranian.. :)

PENETRATION is a really big factor when making claims about niacinamide. Studies have showed poor natural penetration of niacinamide through stratum corneum ( around 9% only). Unless we target the superficial layer of the skin, we should use penetration enhancers ( phospholipis system, vesicular systems or proper solubilizers like dimethyl isosorbide, pentylene glycol or ethoxydiglycol) to get real benefits of this ingredient. At a close analyse of the INCI list, we can see that respected brands follow this principle when formulating with niacinamide. Unfortunately, the above mentioned helpers are all much more expensive then the niacinamide itself. without them, a niacinamide cosmetic product is more for marketing claims.

I've been using Dimethyl Isosorbide in my own Niacinamide serums for many years for penetration enhancement. Squalane and Propanediol are said to enhance penetration as well.

Thanks for the great informative video Marie. Excellent that you have links to the other resources for info on pH etc in the description in your encyclopedia - it is always the first place I look when doing research on ingredients. I made your Brightening Hyaluronic Acid & Niacinamide Facial Serum a few weeks ago and love it ( I just made it a tad more viscous ). My 'dupe on the Green Tea Face Cream is still my favorite of all your face creams and I now add the Niacinamide (4.5%) at cool-down and it dissolves just fine doing this way too. My skin has improved so much since I started using your formulations about a year ago. Cheers :)

10% niacinamide is too much for some folks, so if someone doesn't like The Ordinary's serum, they will probably like niacinamide at 3%-5%. :) Anyway, LOVE the toner mist after 9 months of daily use, made in 8oz batch sizes. Using it as a mask for ~5 days puts it in fast-forward and fades any new hyperpigmentation to nearly gone (sheet mask, or 2% xanthan gum soft for a no-waste jelly mask). Currently using a batch with 1:2 strawberry:peppermint hydrosols, yum! The moisturizing repair cream is heaven on my moderately damaged hands. I made a no-niacinamide version for my sister's severely damaged hands using ceramides, allantoin, and B5. (My understanding is that if your skin barrier is in bad bad bad shape, B3 and many other actives can be irritating [my sister's skin was so damaged that the original formula gave her a burning sensation], but it's great for moderate to mild barrier damage.) And I've been using the green tea face cream for 10 months and enjoying making fun variations. My favorite is blueberry seed oil and blueberry extract. It has a soft scent without any FO or EO. I'm planning to try a turmeric version sometime soon. I choose to use my niacinamide at bedtime. Waking is for salicylic acid and vitamin C because they work best at a pH of 3-4. Sleep is for niacinamide and retinoids, where their higher pH won't interfere with my BHAs/C. At first I was worried that reducing niacinamide from twice daily to once daily would let my hyperpigmentation come back, but it has been just as effective once daily!

I once put a small amount of niacinamide on my hand and mixed it directly with cream. I don't know if I felt the effects well, but I can use it like this! This time, I have seen many cases of putting niacin in the shampoo bar in the market and found that niacin is used as a hair conditioner ingredient. I'm going to put it in the shampoo bar!

I’ve had great success with using niacinamide with a final pH of around 4.52 which I submitted in my final project for formula botanica citing several sources for keeping the pH lower, however they counted my project off for this. They wouldn’t accept any pH submissions with niacinamide below 5.6 claiming their cosmetic chemist says it will not be effective blow this pH.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

That is so disappointing, especially since I can point to (and I'm sure you did as well) very well-written articles from two other cosmetic chemists making exactly the opposite point :/ And it's not even about efficacy-it's about degradation. Booo :(

I'm inspired by one of your recent recipes to formulate a skin barrier supporting/repairing skin cream (you used panthenol, allantoin, sodium lactate, & a rather large oil phase in that formula), and I'm interested in adding a little NAG specifically for barrier repair, and I don't need much to convince me to use it anyway (it's super affordable at a vendor I'm going to purchase from anyway, easy to use, not pH fussy so I don't need to buy special equipment for it at this time unlike with niacinamide). However, I am a smidge frustrated that dermatologists, formulators, or other credible figures are not talking about why NAG helps with barrier repair; I've only ever seen focus on pigmentation improvement (always in the shadow of niacinamide) & the only mention of skin barrier repair is from the vendor who would sell it to me. I am convinced that it is great for skincare, it's a sugar which generally indicates a humectant, and a potent antioxidant that I hear is used in the ER for other reasons, but I feel conflicted about getting hyped over something I don't solidly understand. I've found your post about researching ingredients quite helpful, but I'm still struggling on this one. Have you come across any mentions?

      Don't do that.
      Use Cosmetic Niacinamide only.

Thanks for this video, I’ve really been wanting to know how to use niacinamide. Where can I purchase the niacinamide powder?

      Thanks for watching!
I have a giant page of specialty places to shop all over the world, which you can find here: www.humblebeeandme.com/resources/. I recommend going through the shops there that are in your country (and failing that, ones that ship to your country). Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) is fairly easy to find :)
If you can't find anything there, you could try looking for a local Facebook group for people who like making soap & other cosmetics-they may be able to recommend local places to shop.

Is niacinamide decreases the viscosity of face wash while formulating

It shouldn't, but surfactant formulation is a big quagmire of "it depends", so it isn't impossible. I'd suspect your fragrance or EO first, though :)

Can we use it in soap?

No point since something momentarily on the skin won’t do much. She mentioned it should be on a “leave on” product for this very reason.
