    I have the 1.67 lenses. My prescription is -10.25 in my left eye and 10.75 in my right. I also have no line bifocals and Transitions lenses. The 1.67 are worth every penny of my high rx fee.

      @yoy nono I haven’t actually measured them, but in a plastic frame the lenses as they are tailored for my prescription stick out maybe a quarter inch or so in spots. I’m just delighted that I don’t look like the professor from Futurama.

      If possible, go for 1.74 because it will make the lenses even thinner.

    It's important to consider weight. My prescription is -4.75, plus some astigmatism and I get 1.74 lenses just for my glasses to be lighter. For me it has been totally worth it, but maybe others don't notice much of a difference🤷‍♀️

    Hello. I'm -4.50, I have normally used 1.60 lenses but now I wanted a large and metallic frame (thin) and I was thinking of choosing the 1.74 index so that my lenses are not so noticeable in this frame. But, the abbe value of the 1.74 lenses is much lower (32) than the abbe value of the 1.60 lenses (41), so I fear having worse visual quality and chromatic aberrations with high index lenses. What do you recommend me? Do you think the difference between these two abbe values will be very noticeable in the vision? Thanks for your video!

    The higher the index lens is, the more blurry and distorted the peripheral vision will be from the view of the person wearing the glasses. So, if you want visual acuity, lower index will provide less distortion and clearer peripheral view.

      You choose a lens according to your size, for example, minus 5 is better than 1.67, but minus 3 -3.5 to 4 will be sufficient. Minus 2.5 and less will be 1.56-1.50. Better than minus 7. 1.74 is preferable, but minus 2.5 is better. 9 will be mandatory

      Bring your prescription to a person who is willing to calculate the lens thickness by measuring your chosen frame dimensions and your pupil positions in the frame. Your being near-sighted means you are very capable of looking at the result measurements at very close range.

      You can get edge polish for $25 at Pearle Vision and probably other stores that makes the edges clear instead of white. Actually they told me at 1.74 it is included there.

I want blue IQ reading /computer glasses and another pair polarized sun/work glasses. I'm looking at all the options offered 1.5/1.53/1.6/1.67/1.74. The sight recommends 1.74. Does it matter? can it be 1.5 even? ty,
    Oh and i usually get the shortest/narrowest rectangular frames for reading, but larger/est aviator's for sun/work.

  • @troublemethis17
    @troublemethis17 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    for clarity's sake, pun intended, higher indexes are more dense SO weight is not a significant factor as it's basically a wash. btw, the industry in western industrialized nations are basically a racket. you can take a vacation to japan where they give you a free optician guided digital exam without appointment and come back in half an hour for fully done glasses w/ standard coatings included... maybe a few days depending on a complex Rx + add-ons. either way, you got a vacation out of it and walked out spending $40-250 near the top vs $450-700. btw, i've seen them have index 1.76 - 1.8 in places.

    • @RXSafety

      It can cause distortion. A circular frame would give less distortion.

      If so, would Rectangle, Square, Geometric or what shape would be best so the curvature won't be so obvious?

      @@silver831cali3 hi! Yes, the larger the lenses of the frame you want for your glasses are, the thicker your glasses will be. In general, if you want to avoid overly thick glasses you should go for the smaller glass frames, even if high index glasses can also help to shave off quite a bit of the thickness as well. Also, in general rounder lenses will work better with higher prescriptions. Hope I could help 😀
