      I've seen journey with all the "replacement" singers after perry and honestly the show I saw with Jeff Soto was the most high energy show I've seen out of the 6 times I've seen them by far (House of Blues Orlando)...And Neal had the sickest Guitar Rig I've ever seen, (Zakk Wylde JCM 800, a Diezel VH-4 and A Fender Cyber Twin, all sitting on Marshall Cabs) and they were all on and CRANKED, which that's always been my only complaint about journey live is Neal is never high enough in the mix for me. But not that night, his stage volume alone was melting the front couple rows that were on his side of the stage....Everyone in the band seemed super pumped that Night, it was AWESOME! JSS by this point had the songs nailed down pat and as always, gave an incredible performance...Yeah he doesn't have the super high end range, but he's got an incredibly powerful voice all the while making singing one of if not THE HARDEST catalogues ever look easy!!

    I saw Steve Augeri with the band live 3 times and I thought he was VERY underrated and did a great job for them. Arrival was an AWESOME album I thought. I loved it. Crowds at Steve Augeri shows loved him. Sold out shows once everyone realized he was damn good and cool. Tough shoes to fill with Perry that's for sure.

      Journey's material uses up tenors and ultimately discards them. Yes, Perry fell victim to this along with Augeri. Even Pineda's voice is starting to wear down performing these songs. It's unfortunate, but not something that the band could have foreseen. With Journey, it's a timing thing. If you like a specific singer, go see them at their prime.

      @@chriswoosley3883 Thank you Chris. I appreciate others who agree with me. I LOVED Arrival. I think it did not get the hype that Generations did cause fans were NOT as receptive to Steve Augeri as they were to Arnel since Augeri was to much a clone. joshua pressley unfortunately the other Steve didn’t have the longevity to perform journey songs. But then journey songs are vocal killers. Jeff Scott Soto sounds amazing on the journey stuff but may be lacking a bit of tenderness to have been the long term front man. I think Jeff is the most talented vocalist to perform with journey. Not getting the opportunity to perform long term may have saved his voice coming into his older age. He still sounds amazing to this day losing little range that comes with age.

    This is my first time seeing Soto with the band (was lucky enough to see Augeri on this tour before he left). I never thought he was a good fit, but I see now that he could have hacked it well enough given enough time and practice. I was waiting to pass judgement on him until after he minted an album with them, but that ended up not happening.

      What I like about Soto is that he sings these songs in his own particular style while still rocking the songs. Augeri and Arnel were selected because they sound a lot like Steve Perry, and while I do love them, I think having someone with a different style would have been a good move going forward.

      I have to respectfully disagree. Steve Perry was a massive force in the band, and without him, there’s a very real chance they never would’ve reached the level of superstardom they did. But Journey started off as a group that focused on talented instrumentals: Gregg Rollie’s keys, Aynsley Dunbar’s drums, Ross Valory’s bass, and, of course, Neal Schon’s guitar (and for a very short while, George Tickner’s rhythm guitar, as well). And every instrumentalist that has come through that band since has been phenomenal.
      To the masses, Steve Perry’s voice will be a defining feature of the band. But clearly the band can, and has, moved on without him. But they are a musician’s band at heart - what makes Journey Journey is the talent of the players coming together to make great music. And the voice is only one of those instruments. While it can be argued that Perry might be the most talented singer they had, he is not the ONLY talented singer they have had. And the instrumentalists are still wildly talented (even though it is sad to see Ross and Steve Smith ousted from the group).

      @@Mr._Mints I agree. People don’t stop supporting a soccer team just because a player leaves and for to another club. The club is the thing. I’m also interested that so few people (including your post) fail to mention Jonathan Cain. From the time he joined (essentially Escape onwards) he was the principal song writer in the band. Every hit they had since then ( I won’t name them all) were written almost entirely by him.

    • @MS-yk6kn
      @MS-yk6kn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have to disagree on that one. Perry was great and Journey's pinnacle was with him; no doubt. However, it's always been Neil's band; he is one of the greatest guitarists and songwriters of all time. Jonathan is an important writer and is still there. Arnel has an incredible voice and energy. I have seen Journey many times both with Perry and Arnel and they are still awesome.
