None of Taylor’s songs are generic. They all have some personal connection even when she’s writing them about characters. The majority of the Reputation album is about meeting and falling deeply and unexpectedly in love with her boyfriend of 6 years, Joe Alwyn. She then went on to write 4 more albums with nods to him and their ups and downs. He’s present in over half her discography at this point.
The more we listen to her the more her words speak so loudly to us. Her lyrics are her autobiography….or so it seems so far. Thanks for the share!
@@EbonyandIvory1213most of her songs are autobiographical, even though some songs on her album Folklore are made up characters. Like the songs of cardigan, august and betty. Which is an about a love triangle between Betty, Augusta/Augustine and James. If you really want to get into her lyrics, then listen to folklore and evermore they are sister albums and I think are her best written works so far!
She has so many sides you haven’t discovered yet! She’s been at this, practicing her craft since she was 15 at least, and she doesn’t limit herself to one genre. Whatever she’s feeling- that’s what she writes! Great reaction!

In Melbourne, she did 3 shows to 96,000 fans sold out all 3 shows, on to Sidney where she performed to 82,000 fans in 4 shows, all sold out. On to Singapore, she performed 6 shows, all sold out. Taylor has much much more to offer us. In all aspects of music, she is untouchable. This 67 yr old Swiftie LOVES her❤❤❤.

This is about Harry Styles and trying to make their relationship work but between the media and paparazzi constantly hounding them it got too stressful. The wolves in the background represents the Paparazzi chasing after them.

There's a Behind the Music video about writing that song you might enjoy if you're into that kind of thing.
The whole Rep album is a wolf in sheeps' clothing. It looks like it's about revenge and her hitting back after getting cancelled but once you look past that, it's a love/lust letter to Joe Alwin.
She never names who the songs are about. Dear John and Style are a bit on the nose but they technically could be about people other than John Mayer and Harry Style 😂 She's clever like that.
Even Folklore and Evermore, while they have fictional characters on some songs, the themes explored all look pretty personal in retrospect, now that her relationship with Joe Alwin is over.
Also, if you dont mind them, subtitles are a godsend, she packs a lot of words in.

Great reaction! I have a suggestion: after you pause, please go back a few seconds before you start again. Taylor is such an amazing lyricist, and when you cut in the middle of a great line and start talking, a lot of times, you've missed the meaning of the lyric. I got on the Swift train about a year ago and watching these videos is the closest I can get to re-experiencing her work for the first time.
I’ll admit, I’m one of those people who never thought I’d fall in love with her work but, I did. (To the point that I’m writing detailed suggestions for a few reactors such as yourselves. Which, quite honestly, shocks the hell out of me because it’s not something I’ve ever spent time doing prior to falling down the T.S. rabbit hole.😉)
I would suggest taking a left turn for the moment because it’s fun to mix things up a bit. There are more great performances from the Reputation Tour, but you can always come back if you’d like. 😊
So, for the next step, I would recommend checking out this Grammys performance of All Too Well:

It’s from 2014- making Swift only 25 at the time. It’s her on the piano (with some backup at different points). It’s a powerful, raw performance of what many consider to be one of her best, if not the best, songs to-date.
Just as a note… You’re probably going to have folks asking for the 10 minute version of the song and/or the “short film” that Swift rolled out when she released All Too Well (10 minute).
I would highly suggest, though, starting with this and then, if you like it, moving onto the lyric video and then the short film (i.e. music video). The Grammys performance presents the song as it was originally released.
Swift had originally written ATW as a ten to twenty minute song and edited it down for its initial release. It wasn’t until 2021, as part of her re-recording project, that she released the 10 minute version.
The song is also heavily lyrically driven and the video, as well done as it is, can make it harder to focus on the lyrics.
That’s all my opinion, of course. My thinking, though, is that I’m steering you in the right direction. The idea is to expose you to the breadth of her discography, some key songs, performances, etc. and then circle back around to start filling in more of the details. Make sense?
