No, the H5 provides the phantom power from the batteries in it. Yes, you can use rechargeable batteries like Eneloop with it. You can also power it via USB.

I use the H5 as well in combination with two Rode NT5. They can be driven with 24 or 48 Volts. Both do work. I noticed no sound difference except for that the batteries of the H5 are faster down, when using 48V (of course: more power consumption). A friend of mine suggested: better use 48V instead of 24V, because then there's low noise! Is that true? Can this be explained physically/electronically?
Hi there! I'll try :) the voltage will affect how much gain do you need to add to reach certain level. The more gain you need to add, more noise. The less voltage, more gain, more noise. This was a simplification, but hopefully answers the question. And you could test that also. Same microphone, same source at same level and distance. Does the gain needed to get the same output level change? If not everything I said is s**t though 😂
Haven't tested myself, but I should think so. Even if it works at 24v, most mics that requires phantom power they do have a value or a range. If it's one value, that should give best results, if it's a range, the highest. However, if 24v gives you good enough results and saves battery life, why not use it? ☺️ Don't let the search for better/perfect get on the way of good enough! 👍🏻

Yes, it's just their "normal" power bank. And you can also power it "from the wall". For that, same cable and just a normal phone charger works perfectly fine as well.

Never used Phantom power on it I wanted to try but the microphone I wanted to test costs 2000 EUR
Yes, that is a large condenser mic that requires 48v of phantom power, which the H5 is capable of delivering while on battery or USB power. The bigger challenge (in my opinion) of using large condenser mics in portable situation is the stand/mount combo. These microphones, as I understand, require more care and careful handling than, let's say, a singing dynamic mic.

Yeah, the USB power can be used even with the batteries inside. And I assume that any pair of AA rechargeable batteries will work, I just mentioned Eneloop because it's what I used on occasion.
I had switched on the power of my Azden Shotgun mic on Zoom H5 amd switched on Phantom Power also. I feel it blew something inside Zoom H5, I had to replace it. I want to understand why it blew it. I was supposed to switch off the Phantom Power of H5?

i’m really surprised by this audio,can u make a tutorial workflow of the audio recording equipments, recording ,settings and processing in premier or davinci for the youtube video,just got the zoom h5 for my youtube channel

My doubt/problem with TH-cam audio is not good enough nor not having good quality audio gears.So yesterday only i purchased zoom H5 and thinking of a XLR microphone for my TH-cam videos.which one do u suggest ? i can not invest like shotgun,frankly i’m in a budget friendly but i can increase my budget little more if the cheap one can’t make me feel happy.How to record audio(like24bit 48khz,settings) and gow to process in softwares to get like ur crispy audio etc, hope my english is good enough to make you understandable .thanks a lot for replying me

Hi! The SM7B is a dynamic mic, so you don't need phantom power (same with the SM48). And yep, you can power it from the wall using a normal phone charger with a USB port. Quite practical ☺️
Some microphones do have the option of battery power so that they don't need phantom power (like the NTG4+). However they're designed to work with power, either the battery one or the phantom power from the recorder. I believe it's usually not recommended to use both at the same time.
Not sure why you are interested if you heard bad stuff about it :D Not sure actually as I haven't used it. I do own an NTG4+ and I'm happy with it, but I don't have anything similar to compare it. You could take a look at the Deity S2 also, they get good reviews. Again, I myself have no experience with them, even though I'd love to try.
I can't get any audio on my speaker monitors when using balanced TRS cables to the Zoom H5. I'm hoping it's a simple case of not using the right settings. Any advice?
Could you explain a bit more your setup? What are you plugging via TRS cables to the H5? And how are you then feeding the speaker monitors from the H5? Just an initial thought: if you are using TRS (stereo) cables plugged into the 1 and 2 combo inputs of the H5, not sure if that will work. Those inputs are mono after after all.
Hey Roger, there is a video where some chap suggested to use a phantom supply solely for the ntg2 microphone (not the recorder), so that the preamp has less work to do and it actually helps with boosting the signal before it goes into the preamp port. Do you think that makes sense? having the h5 on phantom power and the ntg2 mic on phantom power too?
I'm not sure. If the preamps are bad or noisy it might help, maybe? But what if the phantom power supply would add something nasty? I would give it a try if I would be unhappy with the NTG2 + H5 combination. I wouldn't add more complexity if I'm happy enough with the sound 👍🏼

My mic has its own battery house, it works with 1.5V battery. Can I use it with phantom power Zoom H4n Pro ?
