    Because of this video, I converted my 2018 Civic Hatchback into a great camper car! I can park many places and with window coverings like Alex made, no one knows I'm camping overnite! I have saved a ton of money on hotels because of Alex's suggestions! It's been great!

    "Just stopped in to see what condition my condition was in" song from when I was your age. You popped up on my screen and I saw the Civic so I had to watch..I subscribed and thumbs up and I shared video with a friend..I'm broken-hearted because I just sold my 2017 Civic because I am moving to the filipines..it was the second best car I have enjoyed in my life..my best was a 62 Corvette convertible,327,2-4's, positive traction, polished ports,Hurst shifter, aluminum flywheel and more goodies I am sure I forgot..if people knew how good of a car the Civic is there would be none left on the lot..44mpg on the interstate!! Unbelievable!! It was overall the best and most fun to drive car I ever owned and I have had plenty of cars in my lifetime.
    It makes me so happy to see you young people really learning how to enjoy your life to the max without spending a fortune..
    Travelling all over the country with you and a Honda Civic at the same time is,,,
    PRICELESS!!!!!

    Happy New year!
    When I was a Boy Scout, we played a game when new Scouts joined the troop. We lined up chairs in a pattern, creating an obstacle course through which the new Scouts, blindfolded, were supposed to maneuver. The Scoutmaster gave them a few moments to study the pattern before our adventure began. But as soon as the victims were blindfolded, the rest of us quietly removed the chairs. I think life is like this game. Perhaps we spend our lives avoiding obstacles we have created for ourselves and in reality exist only in our minds. We're afraid to apply for that job, take violin lessons, learn a foreign language, call an old friend, write our Congressman - whatever it is that we would really like to do but don't because of personal obstacles. Don't avoid any chairs until you run smack into one. And if you do, at least you'll have a place to sit down. ~Pierce Vincent Eckhart

      She hasn't addressed this but I think she got scared last year with the attempt to steal her gas while she was sleeping in the van. I'm not sure that she has done any solo van travel videos since then. She has gone full Marie Kondo in some and shown us a lot about her van upgrade and had other adventures with family and friends but it seems like the long treks alone in her van are no more or on hold.

    I've lived in a honda accord here and there for a few months at a time, it really is like musical chairs sometimes, haha. Those are good memories that I cherish. My wife would never go for that life, but it's fine we'll have kids soon and hopefully I can instill in them a desire to go off on adventures and they can start younger, since my parents did no such thing for me.

    Great video! Questions and thoughts: Does sewing the black fabric on the reflectix help it hold its shape better? I had some issues when testing just reflectix, they would not stay in the window very well. I have a 2012 Toyota corolla I hope to do the same thing, Just myself traveling so I'm planning on doing just what you did with the bed setup except using the passenger side of the trunk/ back seat so I can store all my items in the front passenger/left driver side back of the car so if need be I can quickly get into the front seat.

    • @robincrook5630
      @robincrook5630 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since it is just my husband and I now, I took out the backseats of my beloved 2003 Honda CRV (2nd. gens have more head room) and used light weight and insulating 2 in. wall insulation board to custom cut a "platform" that becomes our bed if we need/want to sleep inside. I am 5'7" and my hubby is 5'9", so with the seats forward (still room to store the cooler of food at night in front) I am able to fit a full sized 3 in (we use two because of my arthritis) memory foam mattress and it just folds up against the narrowest part of the wheel well area. Memory foam is great because you can fold it without it splitting (like other, stiffer foams). As for all of our stuff, I use bins in the passenger floor space (which become part of the bed to level the back), and pack our things with an organization level which would envy and boat interior designer, ha. And...I always do a "dry run" before any trip. Totally recommend a CRV, especially because they have 8" ground clearance and real time 4WD when needed. We live in Utah and believe me, we have been on some rough roads with "Spike". Best of luck to you.

    I sleep in my 2005 on trips and stuff under a week . Then I get the 4x8 Uhaul trailer for a bit also . Most campgrounds just want it covered by a tarp if in them .

  • @conundrumcontingencies2495
    @conundrumcontingencies2495 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good luck to you and yours in your travels. I remember after a bit of living in a car, I learned to pack the car with the driver seat down, so I could sleep better. After an Erica Badu/Cypress Hill smokin grooves concert my car was 1 of the 13 someone busted into. Then i started disguising my belongings as laundry, with bed sheets and hefty bags--putting all electronics in the trunk. If i bought a car without a security system i'd buy dummy lights to trick thieves or leave a bible up front to slow them down. Great video and happy trails!

    Great job, Ahle! Fascinating and informative video - great resource for "beginners"! I love what Ahle has accomplished with this Honda Civic and the "Mobile Lifestyle"!! Having lived in a car for almost 5 years myself, the only thing that makes me personally a little nervous and concerned is the lack of immediate access to the driver's seat when in "sleep mode" - - it would be very difficult to make an emergency getaway/departure if that ever became necessary!

    So when/what do you use the crash pads for now? I saw that you use the blow up pads to sleep on.

    I just love my Toyota prius. Bigger trunk in the back. I dont need to set it up so long. And I dont need to get out of car to set it up. I just climb from driver seat to the back. Put down the back seats and immediately it become a "Bed Mode". And Toyota Prius gas mileage is the best. 52 MPG in high way with 60 - 65 miles /hour. The only shortage of this car is house power and acceleration.

    I love your channel and your energy! I find your advice very practical for those of us that are crazy enough to live the same sort of dream. One question is why are you hanging on to crash pads? My apologies I don't know what they are. I am assuming they are beds? But then you have other bed to work with that you enjoy. Sorry for the question and the ignorance on my part. I guess I didn't catch the episode where you mentioned what the crash pads were. Great advice keep up the good work!!!

    This is really cool and inspiring me to modify my Civic the same way. Is it tough getting to places with a Honda Civic because they ride so low?
