    Appearance is at least backed up by some decent power. Pretty nice car for 31k considering what a Camry was 10 years ago. Unfortunate that these cars don't have a manual option.

    • @electrikoptik
      @electrikoptik 4 ปีที่แล้ว +208

      I agree. It's the own consumers fault. Nobody in the sates is buying manuals.
      Honda does offer a 6 speed manual in the accord sport.
      5% of all Accord sold were manuals.

      Right Lane Hog Also a die hard enthusiast and I gotta say, a lot of these new Hybrids are really good. You can’t argue with the numbers and many of them look the part due to the emergence of bold styling for family oriented models. Toyota has always been one of the bests and while I have driven or really spent much time looking into one (lol not really my cup of tea) at least they will sell in massive numbers and save a bit more gas for people like us. And maybe someday I will buy one when I get tired of cars; not likely, but you never know haha

      @@tvlnnt Came to the comments as soon as I saw that. I thought so too, but I think it's unlikely as he was only doing 40 on what appears to be a divided 4-lane highway. Of course, I don't know the limit on that road, can't see any signs in the clip. However, you are able to see that the ramp has a limit of 30. We do see Topher entering the ramp doing 40, but the cop had his brake lights on before he entered the ramp/indicated, so it's hard to tell what the cop would pull him over for. Again, I'm not sure what interests the cop to pull over what is a stock Camry painted red with a little spoiler, but who knows.

    I'm a couple years late here, but this Camry is designed for people like me. I want a car that's reliable, has reasonable insurance rates, and decent gas mileage. But I love sporty cars and a little bit extra horsepower doesn't hurt for passing cars without accelerating for 5 seconds behind them first. It looks great and has a nice interior with enough features to keep the modern buyer happy. It's the perfect balance of sporty, practical, and reliable for a spacious sedan with a great reliability rating.

    Spot on review and agree with everything. From a commuting standpoint buy the hybrid Camry. Amazing fuel economy and the drivetrain is so smooth and pleasant. I picked up a 2020 camry le hybrid and after 4k miles, I'm averaging around 49 to 50 mpg per tank using regular fuel. All 18+ camrys have that transmission issue where they are constantly searching for gears but since the hybrid models use a CVT you have nothing to worry about. Fun car to drive, so comfortable and practical and plenty of power for daily use.

    These new Camrys are super nice. And I’m glad they still offer a naturally aspirated V6. My brother just got a 2022 Camry XLE V6 and it’s stunning. His girlfriend has a 2020 Camry SE. I myself have a 2000 XLE V6 Camry that was given to me from my mother. I like the V6 in the new Camrys, but the 1MZ-FE In my car i feel is somewhat a better V6 . Sure I’ve got a 100 less horsepower, but it’s a lighter, smaller sedan. And although it doesn’t have vvti, there’s this beautiful rasp that goes from about 4500 rpm’s to its redline. It almost sounds like a VQ v6 from Nissan. It was given to me with just 55k miles and it now has 201kmiles. It’s been bullet proof and is just a perfect all around car. Everyone around me has newer cars, but i really love my older Camry. Its never not started, or had any warning light on in the 22 years we’ve owned it.

    Yeah the gear hunting/confused gears can be toned down alot by driving it in eco mode. At first eco mode will seem very sluggish but the computer will adjust to a normal or more agressive driving style and eco mode will balance out pretty nicely. If u want to drive agressive, keep it in sport. So either sport or eco on this transmission, the normal mode is completely disastrous.

    I have to credit Toyota for STRIPPING down a performance model to actually LOWER the price just like Plymouth Roadrunners of old. Having said that, the absence of a manual option is a major flaw. If Honda can keep the manual Accord alive then Toyota can do the same. In the bigger picture, I completely agree that #Hybrid is the way forward for commuter cars with automatic transmissions. I am sure all the Camry's flaws will be forgiven if Toyota brings over that new Yaris GR with AWD, 6 Speed manual and 268 hp to kick the Type R's butt ;)

    • @RandomlnternetGuy

    • @davidcopeland5450
      @davidcopeland5450 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Right Lane Hog agree with you on what you said, however one point I do want to make is that Toyota hasn’t made a Camry with a manual in close to 10 years, and even seeing mid-to-late 2000s Camrys with a stick is pretty rare here in the North American market. There was no chance Toyota was nor is ever going to go back to making a Camry with a manual option since they haven’t done it in so long. Still would be nice though like you said.

    • @rightlanehog3151
      @rightlanehog3151 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@davidcopeland5450 What were the chances of a TRD Camry or a 268 HP Yaris 24 months ago? I am sure that Las Vegas would have given you odds of 1,000 - 1. Toyota is really reorienting themselves towards increased driving enjoyment with their newer models. All I hope to do is to provide positive encouragement for more options for buyers because the manual driving experience is so much more engaging. After listening to our reviewer's near total frustration with a transmission that chooses its own gear, my belief is only reinforced.

    • @davidcopeland5450
      @davidcopeland5450 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @drivedb7
      @drivedb7 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right Lane Hog - You make a valid point, but another thing to consider would be that Toyota has never really developed a manual transmission for the 2GR. Even the fire-breathing Lexus IS350 has never had a manual trans option. I suppose the Tacoma has one available, but it’s RWD and they aren’t selling well at all. Putting a manual transmission in this TRD Camry would require and enormous amount of cash for very little pay-off. Honda at least has the Civic Type-R which they can borrow parts off of. Toyota doesn’t have that luxury. Not saying it can’t happen, but the likelihood of seeing a M/T TRD Camry is very, very slim.
