Hi Norrine, I recently found your channel. I enjoy your cheerful personality and well thought out suggestions. I have watched this video 3-4 times. I have been in the midst of a complete craft room reorganization and used your suggestions to improve my process. I took my time and made those decisions to keep, toss or donate. I focused on zones. For the first time I have everything I need and want in its place. “I could do something with this” has been my downfall. Now I ask myself “But will you?” Ha! Thanks and job well done.
A few years ago I decided “could” was a trigger word for me. In a store I would see something and think oh I could do this! I could do that! Finally realize that yes I could do that but what I’m going to do it and was I going to do it within the next year……. My bank account is much much happier as is my craft room!
I do the same thing! I ask myself what I'm going to do with it and if there are other projects (that I have supplies for) that I'm more excited about. It's a good reminder that just because I'm capable doesn't mean I have to do all the things and that the project I came to the store for is more appealing.
Oh, yes! I refer to it as the "Infamous four words" AKA, "I could do THAT!" SO many different projects started, so many different crafts I've tried and not done much with. I'm getting better, but only because I now pause every time I find myself thinking those four words! I'm still bad about picking up supplies for crafts I already do, but at least I'm not picking up a new hobby/craft every week!
Sometimes I will take a photo (or save the file, video, or whatever, on my computer) of the thing/idea I see that I ‘could’ make, instead of buying the supplies. Then I feel like I have time to mull it over, plan adaptations or whatever, and ensure I truly want to invest in the project. I’ve had things that sat in my to-do areas so long that they are sort of out of style or my taste has changed, and then there is the guilt over not using those items.
I’m Halfway there to getting my all my spaces into Zones, but am Waiting For My Family to Catch On to What I’m Doing…I Love ALL of YOUR ORGANIZATION Tips and Tricks…THANK YOU!
Wow. Just wow. Thank you. I don't have a craft room or even a designated area and our home is overrun with all the "stuff". I just said to my husband I need to corral EVERYTHING and see what I have to see what we would need for storage to make a specified area for crafting. I will be able to look at my supplies with a more discerning eye, too. And donating to the elementary school (where I happen to work) is a win/win. Thank you for all of your tips. I was feeling overwhelmed and now feel excited to get started.

Your tips on NOT micro-organizing (which I had seen on a previous video as well) are literally the best ideas I've ever heard, seen or watched! I have definitely transformed the way my craft room is organized because of your channel. Thank you.
I agree. I used to organize supplies by the craft--e.g. I had three places for papercraft glues, etc., fabric glues, and "general" glues. When I reorganized, all glues went into an "adhesives" box. I did the same with sewing notions and craft paper. Having likes in one place makes it so much easier to find things.
@@nuvoclassic I do mixed media too but honestly there are 3 types of glues that were my go toos: collage matte medium by Ranger, mod podge and fabri-tac. If I have room I keep a crackle medium. Pastes are more tricky but I just have one smooth white paste, one textured, and a gel. I add my own colour with gelatos or distress inks as they don’t water down the paste and I add glitter to gel to get glitter paste. I tried buying lots of different ones but they dry out so I’d rather make my own custom colours!
I recently moved cross country and used many of your suggestions to decide what to take with me. I kept only crafting supplies I had used in the past 6 months. I donated everything to a local elementary school- they were thrilled and I was happy knowing the supplies would be put to good use instead of sitting on another crafters shelf.

So this is a bit odd but I was buying things I did not need thinking I might craft with them because I saw someone haul them. Then started watching someone who crafts with junk. It inspired me so much and now I’m on a mission to only use what I have and not make something perfect but make something beautiful to.

The most important tip that resonated with me is making time to clean up my craft room. I'm a mad woman when I'm crafting and it takes time to put things back to right, but so worth it! I'm always happy with myself when I want to start a new project and there's nothing in my way! Thanks for another great video!
I agree! I think it is the same as doing my dishes in the evening so I get up to a clean kitchen. A much more pleasant way to start my morning (or my next craft project).
I love watching craft room tours & organization videos... well organization videos/shorts/pics in general are a guilty pleasure. Something I have not yet come across would be ideas for the vertically challenged & wheelchair bound individuals. For decor one could have a friend that helps use vertical space for decor or storing seasonal/rarely used goods. However, for well used space that also allows for wheelchair maneuverability. The rolling cart is definitely a very helpful 💡 idea for both.
So helpful, Norrine, thank you! I have been admonishing myself for having too much stuff but realized I needed a bit of retraining from my youth. I have loved to sew since I was a child. My father had a rule that he would not permit me to buy new fabric until he saw the last fabric purchase made into something definitive. I had a fabulous wardrobe because I followed that practice all of my life. Since beginning paper crafting when I retired five years ago, I shopped nonstop. So you got me thinking, "Just how many flower stamps do I really need?" or, "How many stacks of pretty paper does it take to create a card?" Throughout the pandemic, I put on the brakes and avoided impulse buying. I am now enjoying using my oldies but goodies and also rediscovering those items that I have never used. I have unburdened myself of too much paper by giving it away and my craft nook feels so spacious. Thank you for sharing your clever ideas!

Honestly it seems I’m doing the right things. My main problems are I have too many supplies, and whenever company is coming (shot notice) I rush to put things away. The problem with that is I’m in such a hurry that I end up putting things in the wrong place. My husband recently had a good idea. He suggested I write in a notebook where I put things.
I've had many a "oh no" hurried cleaning sessions. I shove it all in one box - so that I know where anything that I can't find is..... the hard part is putting everything in THAT box away. Tell your husband I like his idea!
I’m in the process of turning half of my two car garage into my craft room and class area. I want to start making TH-cam videos and selling my handmade albums, journals, cards and folios (you get the idea 😁) online. I love this video! Superbly thought out! I discovered long ago that when my life feels overwhelmed I can usually glance around and see that organization has become a problem . I recently donated some baskets to charity as I realised they had become part of the clutter. Good advice about assessing what you have and then buying containers rather than the other way round. X
My biggest dilemma is working between two craft areas. One area is in my primary home and the second area is in my vacation home. One thing I found handy is to have a tool organizer tote in both locations. When I travel to either place I take the current projects I am working on with me in a plastic bin. One other suggestion is to take the time to plan your next projects, pull all of your supplies needed such as pattern paper coordinating cardstock embellishments washi tape etc and place them in a 12 x 12 plastic paper storage bin. It also gives you a chance to see what you have and what if anything you need when it comes time to work on the project. The downside of two craft areas is keeping both areas tidy. Your tips are amazing. Thank you. PS. I love your craft area.

@@amyfouts9781 Hi Amy, They are square plastic cases with a lid....that can house 12×12 paper/cardstock....or, any other craft supply. I use them to organize the above mentioned craft supply....and, some them organize my card projects.
Now... I don't know about you ... Everytime I get rid of something.... throw it out... Or donate it... I realize a day or two or a week later.... I needed that!!!😜

They come in multiple sizes and colors, I can always find them used for $1-$3 at thrift shops and garage sales, and they stack well in drawers and boxes. •They help me organize both for type of craft, and zones for frequent use. •Plus I can label and relabel them easily, and it reduces stress to read the label before visually or manually searching the tray. •I’m so glad to have been learning from you how this all adds up to more streamlined and functional creative space. You are too brilliant…..dollar tree cookie sheets for “in progress” projects and writing notes to yourself! I have learned the hard way about your other tips. I have to 1001 percent agree with you on everything you said. Even though I have lots and lots of experience in dealing with lots and lots of stuff in a tiny home, I still learn new things from you.

I love your videos on organizing. Here is a idea from Adam Savage. When he has to find a home for something new,(especially not used often items) he thinks to himself where would I look for this..then the first thought he has is where he stores it…much more likely when he needs it next, it will jog his memory when he thinks “where would I put it”. I think this idea would work well with your ideas. I use your zones for my coloring and it’s been a huge help! 💚
When I did stamping a lot, I had plastic drawers that I organized the stamps in, great, except when I pulled a bunch of stamps out, I spent extra time putting it all back in the drawers. I made a "map" for each drawer, I put a title on each drawer and corresponding title for the stamps. It was easy to pull things out and put them away. Now that I am into quilting and sewing things for the home, I have numbered the bins the fabrics are in so I don't lose track of where leftover fabric goes. I write little post notes for the fabric I take out. The more organized I am the more fun time I have.
I have made everyone of these mistakes!!! After watching your TH-cam I definitely look at my space and storage differently! Thank you for all the great tips and tricks!

I love the Be Your Own Assistant idea - forever forgetting where I put those “what do I do with” items! Also, scheduling time to organize is great. Doing a regular check through things would help so much!
I do that in my kitchen with seasonings: I will use a Sharpie and write "buy more" on a container, when I am low and buy the replacement I cross out the reminder. I never thought about doing that in other places.
I found a lot of these tips out the hard way. My craft room/quilting room was so over run it stressed me out. i did some research and your videos helped me so much. I now have a space that brings me joy and I am able to sew once again. I have also gone on to help one of my resident's (I work in healthcare at a SNF) organize her beads. I didn't know there were so many different types of beads. TFS

I've pretty much cure myself of the habit of pushing things aside to work on something else. I tidy up everytime I'm going to be gone for an hour or more (like for supper). If still in the middle of something, I put all the parts in a ziplock, put my tools in my carousel or jar, then it will all be in there when I can get back to it.
Over the years, I've watching countless videos on organizing, but yours definitely has the best common-sense tips on not only how to arrange things, but how to make it work for you after everything is done and pretty and organized. I'm going to watch all of your videos as I'm getting ready to reorganize my craft room and want to do it RIGHT this time! Thanks for such wonderful tips!
Excellent video. I can relate to every single thing you touched on. I need an extra craft room for my organizing supplies i have purchased in order to organize. Seriously have a cabinet in the garage full of them. Recently purged a lot of supplies and need to do more. And yet i still find myself drawn to organizing carts in the stores. OMG.
I like the storage carts. I bought bins, filled bins, then bought more bins, and did not fill the bins (there are empty bins all over my house, now, LOL). I bought a storage cart for my most and current-in-use items. It is great because I can roll it to where I want or need it.
These tips made so much sense. I have a huge problem with starting , and not finishing, many projects and my sewing room becomes a stressful place to work in so I’ll try the timer method and also try to plan better. Thanks for this, I think it’ll help a lot. 🥰
I do all sorts of fiber arts and it wasn't until I started slow stitching and using different types of that I realized the way I stored various threads was crazy. It was all put away by the craft I used it for. I bout a three tier rolling cart and any thread I owned went on it. Sewing thread, bobbins, embroidery floss, perle cotton, crochet thread etc. I have several sewing machines and I no longer have to keep thread at each, just pull up my cart. If I want to slow stitch I can roll my cart to any room.
Your tip on making zones is brilliant. I’ve never thought of comparing my crafting space to my kitchen. Just that simple example made it so easy for me to “get” how to this within my crafting room. The other tips were great as well, this was simply the tip that made me go, yes I can do that straight away. Thank-you so very much, oh and I love all your videos 💖

Most of your tips relate to organising this room which needs it badly as I have a habit of putting things in little containers then forget them so I buy more and end up with these tucked away all over the room

Boy this was a great video. Just what I needed for getting myself on target. Only thing is I’ve spent money on all this stuff and I feel like I’m just tossing out money. I just met some new friends that are crafters so i can give them my duplicates!!

I recently went through my crafts supplies and decided on things I just will never use. I donated them to a family that homeschools and their children love to craft. I don't mind getting rid of things as long as I know they are going to someone that will take good care of them. I do struggle the most with cleaning up after projects. I also am always changing my craft room around and can never seem to me satisfied. It has become easier with minimizing things though. I have decided to only do certain crafts. I have gotten rid of pretty much everything to do with scrapbooking because I just don't have the time or the patience to do it. I will only do crafts that I have a home for, whether it be a gift or something I want. Love your TH-cam channel and all your great ideas and suggestions.

I love the idea of using a couple cookie sheets to store those unfinished projects! What a great idea! I definitely struggle with the micro-organization. It's just how my brain works. But then it backfires b/c I want it so super organized that it gets overwhelming and I end up not getting it organized at all.

Same here - I want a tote for this craft and that project and this idea and that idea and this journal and that journal - and I've got so many darn totes I just stand in the middle of the room and twitch. LOL! Seriously though - I end up going into one tote to get the scissors for something else and then I lose the scissors and I end up having like umpteen pairs of scissors and only know where one pair is at any given time. And I like the "be your own personal assistant" idea - why do we think we should be able to remember EVERY SINGLE thing from our daily lives? Why do we expect ourselves to remember where we have put everything? I am beginning to understand and appreciate labels and now also little notes to myself. At one time I made myself a craft storage file where I labeled boxes and made index cards for what was in each box and then I graduated to a searchable excel spreadsheet but I haven't kept either of those things maintained, if I did, they would have been great. I guess I could ask my "personal assistant" to do it...much like I ask my "maid" to empty and reload my dishwasher, start a load of laundry and sweep and mop the floors. LOL.
The cookie sheet idea is fantastic! I usually make many quilt tops but when I get "stuck" on, for instance, what type of border to make, I'll put it away until inspiration hits. This is the perfect solution! Thank you.
I have followed your channel long enough to have heard these tips before. However...I may not have actually "heard" them, because I wasn't in a receptive frame of mind at the time. Thanks for the reminders. As I sat listening to this video, I have been mentally organizing some things and will do them immediately after the video ends!
You have been with me for a long time.... I appreciate that so much. There are so many things in my life that I have heard multiple times - yet, whatever time it is - it eventually give me that, "OH!!!" moment. :) I love when that happens.

Great tips here. I just finished reorganizing the garage which includes my crafting space and finished about 5 this morning ....finally... YAY!! The container method is so valuable.... I had set up three rules for myself when I went out to organize this time and they are as follows: 1) Streamline, everything. 2) Easy in 3) Easy out Numbers two and three could probably work as sub-points but you get the idea..... Oh how the "container method" came into play in a huge way in this fashion. Also, I noticed that your table was clear.... this was something I had to do, also. In the beginning, I couldn't figure out what was making me so crazy every time I would walk out to my crafting space.... The question, "What's making you crazy?" ...also, came into play in a huge way. Clearing the table did not go quickly.....🙄..... Oh no.... it took some doing. I could think of every reason in the world to keep that table full but I knew it was NOT making me happy. So I began with pulling "one item" at a time off the table and then sitting down for 10 or 15 minutes and trying to decide.... literally trying to decide, "okay, what's the next item I pull off?" Each time, I cajoled myself thinking, " I can always put it back if it doesn't work." Interesting enough.... I found a place for each item that came off that table. That table is completely clear except for the lamp that sits in the middle(lighting there isn't as good). The cord sits wrapped in a pipe cleaner....I set up a universal plug in unit close by....to plug the lamp...the cricut machine....and, other needed things in when in use. I can honestly say that this was the biggest advantage (this time) "Clearing that table!😀😀😀" I open the door to go out to the crafting space and already I'm feeling creative... I'm feeling inspired... I'm feeling freer to do my craft. The other thing I did was something that you also touched on.... and that was to bring items closer to me that I used more regularly.....now, THIS took some doing. Years ago, I had purchased a piece of furniture that could house tchotchkes.... I added some shelves....and, it became my rubber stamping, area. FOR YEARS, I LOVED this shelving unit. While, organizing this time, I decided, I was literally OVER looking at shelves of stamps. SOOOOO.... I began, "possibility thinking". I did get rid of a few stamps but most of them, I kept. Placing most of them into a different area, I did keep one shelve of stamps in view that could be used for future stamping projects. The shelving unit SUDDENLY took on new life!😀 I now was replacing wooden block stamps ....used occasionally...with items....I use all the time....inks....LOVE USING INKS....my other markers....Cricut cartridges....YES...I still use and LOVE THESE..... Applicators....block to add makeup sponges, too. I LOVE IT!!!! I KNEW I had come upon the right answer for this furniture piece...when I found myself already using those supplies WHILE I was organizing! I have to add one more note: I FOUND IT!!!😀.... IT'S TAKEN ME MONTHS to figure out another system....for all my cutting dies....I FOUND IT!!!😀 Looking at my paper organizer, one day, ...you know the kind...6 iris drawers ...I LOVE these...I love paper flat....that's my quirk....I know it's not everyone's. ...but, its mine. Using a huge supply of magnets and cardstock cut from old insurance forms ...I fashioned a drawer system to house my dies....BUT, this time, I took out the drawers...and, replaced them with magnetized covered 3 pieces of cardstock...glued taped and hot glued together placed in 9×13 cake pans. Each cake pan is a different theme housed and labeled, accordingly . This idea is the closest I get to that somewhat represents an Alex drawer system with magnets, added. Again, ANOTHER WIN! I'm diligently trying to stay out of the craft stores... I'll allow myself to go in once in awhile to either get supplies needed or maybe just get an idea or two. I think I've been in one craft store since August... for me that's very good. I know this was quite lengthy but you inspire me in so many ways. Thank you for your frugality, your kindness... and for the amazing content that you put out there.😀😀😀

When I first discovered you, I set my calendar by all the days of the week that you were on. Those days were the highlight of my week. Have you decided to cut back this year? It may be my imagination but I do miss the special touch you give to your projects. I hope you can return to your former TH-cam schedule. Missing you. I’ve been working my way around the house, slowly decluttering. I’m leaving the craft room til last because I know that will be the hardest room to do. For a long time I thought I needed to find a way to fit in more storage but recently I realised that I have enough (maybe even too much) storage already. The problem is having too much stuff… just in case. Your tips should help me make a more realistic job of organising the room when I eventually get to it. Thanks.
Thank you for this! When you suggested writing notes to yourself about where extras are, and putting dates on those items you felt sure you'd use someday, I thought "brilliant!" I already use zones and several of your tips, but your post definitely included new ideas to try.
I have finally got around to organizing my craft stuff. So far I have cricut, cardboard and wood all separated. I do well with the bigger stuff but struggle with the smaller supplies. I will try to remember not to micro organize. Thank you so much for your videos. They really help.

I have too... the deciding factor usually boils down to if space is needed or not. If you have the space for those items - then it's not hurting anything to hold on to them - but if you are not able to enjoy your space due to space constraints and clutter, better to let them go. :)
I too have some very old stuff that I can now use as my kids are older. I didn't have the time then, but now that I don't have the money, I have the time. Been having a ball using up older supplies.
Unless it's old or dried out. Some things store and some things don't- bath and bodyworks lotions and soaps DON'T store!! I was keeping some "as a special treat" and they changed scent and color. Some things are meant to be used - like mousse

Hi Norrine, I recently found your channel. I enjoy your cheerful personality and well thought out suggestions. I have watched this video 3-4 times. I have been in the midst of a complete craft room reorganization and used your suggestions to improve my process. I took my time and made those decisions to keep, toss or donate. I focused on zones.
For the first time I have everything I need and want in its place.
“I could do something with this” has been my downfall.

A few years ago I decided “could” was a trigger word for me. In a store I would see something and think oh I could do this! I could do that! Finally realize that yes I could do that but what I’m going to do it and was I going to do it within the next year……. My bank account is much much happier as is my craft room!
I do the same thing! I ask myself what I'm going to do with it and if there are other projects (that I have supplies for) that I'm more excited about. It's a good reminder that just because I'm capable doesn't mean I have to do all the things and that the project I came to the store for is more appealing.

Oh, yes! I refer to it as the "Infamous four words" AKA, "I could do THAT!" SO many different projects started, so many different crafts I've tried and not done much with. I'm getting better, but only because I now pause every time I find myself thinking those four words! I'm still bad about picking up supplies for crafts I already do, but at least I'm not picking up a new hobby/craft every week!

Sometimes I will take a photo (or save the file, video, or whatever, on my computer) of the thing/idea I see that I ‘could’ make, instead of buying the supplies. Then I feel like I have time to mull it over, plan adaptations or whatever, and ensure I truly want to invest in the project. I’ve had things that sat in my to-do areas so long that they are sort of out of style or my taste has changed, and then there is the guilt over not using those items.

I just said to my husband I need to corral EVERYTHING and see what I have to see what we would need for storage to make a specified area for crafting. I agree. I used to organize supplies by the craft--e.g. I had three places for papercraft glues, etc., fabric glues, and "general" glues. When I reorganized, all glues went into an "adhesives" box. I did the same with sewing notions and craft paper. Having likes in one place makes it so much easier to find things.

@@user-mv9tt4st9k i do mixed media, so I have a ton of adhesives - but a tiny room so not enough space to consolidate them all in one container.
@@nuvoclassic I do mixed media too but honestly there are 3 types of glues that were my go toos: collage matte medium by Ranger, mod podge and fabri-tac. If I have room I keep a crackle medium. Pastes are more tricky but I just have one smooth white paste, one textured, and a gel. I add my own colour with gelatos or distress inks as they don’t water down the paste and I add glitter to gel to get glitter paste. I tried buying lots of different ones but they dry out so I’d rather make my own custom colours!
Finally, someone who understands the chaos! You give me hope!! Love the sticky notes.
I recently moved cross country and used many of your suggestions to decide what to take with me. I kept only crafting supplies I had used in the past 6 months. I donated everything to a local elementary school- they were thrilled and I was happy knowing the supplies would be put to good use instead of sitting on another crafters shelf.

So this is a bit odd but I was buying things I did not need thinking I might craft with them because I saw someone haul them. Then started watching someone who crafts with junk. It inspired me so much and now I’m on a mission to only use what I have and not make something perfect but make something beautiful to.

The most important tip that resonated with me is making time to clean up my craft room. I'm a mad woman when I'm crafting and it takes time to put things back to right, but so worth it! I love watching craft room tours & organization videos... well organization videos/shorts/pics in general are a guilty pleasure.
Something I have not yet come across would be ideas for the vertically challenged & wheelchair bound individuals. For decor one could have a friend that helps use vertical space for decor or storing seasonal/rarely used goods. However, for well used space that also allows for wheelchair maneuverability.
The rolling cart is definitely a very helpful 💡 idea for both.

So helpful, Norrine, thank you! I have been admonishing myself for having too much stuff but realized I needed a bit of retraining from my youth. I have loved to sew since I was a child. My father had a rule that he would not permit me to buy new fabric until he saw the last fabric purchase made into something definitive. I had a fabulous wardrobe because I followed that practice all of my life. Since beginning paper crafting when I retired five years ago, I shopped nonstop. So you got me thinking, "Just how many flower stamps do I really need?" or, "How many stacks of pretty paper does it take to create a card?" Throughout the pandemic, I put on the brakes and avoided impulse buying. I am now enjoying using my oldies but goodies and also rediscovering those items that I have never used. I have unburdened myself of too much paper by giving it away and my craft nook feels so spacious. Thank you for sharing your clever ideas!

Honestly it seems I’m doing the right things. My main problems are I have too many supplies, and whenever company is coming (shot notice) I rush to put things away. The problem with that is I’m in such a hurry that I end up putting things in the wrong place.
My husband recently had a good idea. He suggested I write in a notebook where I put things.

My biggest dilemma is working between two craft areas. One area is in my primary home and the second area is in my vacation home. One thing I found handy is to have a tool organizer tote in both locations. When I travel to either place I take the current projects I am working on with me in a plastic bin. One other suggestion is to take the time to plan your next projects, pull all of your supplies needed such as pattern paper coordinating cardstock embellishments washi tape etc and place them in a 12 x 12 plastic paper storage bin. It also gives you a chance to see what you have and what if anything you need when it comes time to work on the project. The downside of two craft areas is keeping both areas tidy. Your tips are amazing. Thank you. PS. I love your craft area.

•My favorite organizing discovery this year is plastic silverware trays. They come in multiple sizes and colors, I can always find them used for $1-$3 at thrift shops and garage sales, and they stack well in drawers and boxes. •They help me organize both for type of craft, and zones for frequent use.
•Plus I can label and relabel them easily, and it reduces stress to read the label before visually or manually searching the tray.
•I’m so glad to have been learning from you how this all adds up to more streamlined and functional creative space.

I love your videos on organizing. Here is a idea from Adam Savage. When he has to find a home for something new,(especially not used often items) he thinks to himself where would I look for this..then the first thought he has is where he stores it…much more likely when he needs it next, it will jog his memory when he thinks “where would I put it”. I think this idea would work well with your ideas. I use your zones for my coloring and it’s been a huge help! 💚
Oh my goodness... I have heard Adam Savage describe that tip and I thought "That is what I do with many stored items." If I move it, I lose it.

I forgot to mention that your cookie sheet idea is absolutely game-changing--so simple and so perfect!
When I did stamping a lot, I had plastic drawers that I organized the stamps in, great, except when I pulled a bunch of stamps out, I spent extra time putting it all back in the drawers. I made a "map" for each drawer, I put a title on each drawer and corresponding title for the stamps. It was easy to pull things out and put them away. Now that I am into quilting and sewing things for the home, I have numbered the bins the fabrics are in so I don't lose track of where leftover fabric goes. I write little post notes for the fabric I take out. The more organized I am the more fun time I have.

I do that in my kitchen with seasonings: I will use a Sharpie and write "buy more" on a container, when I am low and buy the replacement I cross out the reminder. I never thought about doing that in other places.

I found a lot of these tips out the hard way. My craft room/quilting room was so over run it stressed me out. i did some research and your videos helped me so much. I now have a space that brings me joy and I am able to sew once again. I have also gone on to help one of my resident's (I work in healthcare at a SNF) organize her beads. I didn't know there were so many different types of beads. TFS

I've pretty much cure myself of the habit of pushing things aside to work on something else. I tidy up everytime I'm going to be gone for an hour or more (like for supper). If still in the middle of something, I put all the parts in a ziplock, put my tools in my carousel or jar, then it will all be in there when I can get back to it.

I like the storage carts. I bought bins, filled bins, then bought more bins, and did not fill the bins (there are empty bins all over my house, now, LOL). I bought a storage cart for my most and current-in-use items. It is great because I can roll it to where I want or need it.

I do all sorts of fiber arts and it wasn't until I started slow stitching and using different types of that I realized the way I stored various threads was crazy. It was all put away by the craft I used it for. I bout a three tier rolling cart and any thread I owned went on it. Sewing thread, bobbins, embroidery floss, perle cotton, crochet thread etc. I have several sewing machines and I no longer have to keep thread at each, just pull up my cart. If I want to slow stitch I can roll my cart to any room.
Your tip on making zones is brilliant. I’ve never thought of comparing my crafting space to my kitchen. Just that simple example made it so easy for me to “get” how to this within my crafting room. The other tips were great as well, this was simply the tip that made me go, yes I can do that straight away. Thank-you so very much, oh and I love all your videos 💖

I recently went through my crafts supplies and decided on things I just will never use. I donated them to a family that homeschools and their children love to craft. I don't mind getting rid of things as long as I know they are going to someone that will take good care of them. I do struggle the most with cleaning up after projects. I also am always changing my craft room around and can never seem to me satisfied. It has become easier with minimizing things though. I have decided to only do certain crafts. I have gotten rid of pretty much everything to do with scrapbooking because I just don't have the time or the patience to do it. I will only do crafts that I have a home for, whether it be a gift or something I want. Love your TH-cam channel and all your great ideas and suggestions.

I love the idea of using a couple cookie sheets to store those unfinished projects! What a great idea! I definitely struggle with the micro-organization. It's just how my brain works. But then it backfires b/c I want it so super organized that it gets overwhelming and I end up not getting it organized at all.
YES. Getting overhwelmed with the organizing project is my issue, too. I have done all of the little things and the big ones are now upon me.
Yep - it's ok to have things broken down... but they still need to be together, so that you can find them. :)

Same here - I want a tote for this craft and that project and this idea and that idea and this journal and that journal - and I've got so many darn totes I just stand in the middle of the room and twitch. LOL! Seriously though - I end up going into one tote to get the scissors for something else and then I lose the scissors and I end up having like umpteen pairs of scissors and only know where one pair is at any given time. And I like the "be your own personal assistant" idea - why do we think we should be able to remember EVERY SINGLE thing from our daily lives? Why do we expect ourselves to remember where we have put everything? I am beginning to understand and appreciate labels and now also little notes to myself. At one time I made myself a craft storage file where I labeled boxes and made index cards for what was in each box and then I graduated to a searchable excel spreadsheet but I haven't kept either of those things maintained, if I did, they would have been great. I guess I could ask my "personal assistant" to do it...much like I ask my "maid" to empty and reload my dishwasher, start a load of laundry and sweep and mop the floors. LOL.
The cookie sheet idea is fantastic! I usually make many quilt tops but when I get "stuck" on, for instance, what type of border to make, I'll put it away until inspiration hits. This is the perfect solution! Thank you.
I have followed your channel long enough to have heard these tips before. However...I may not have actually "heard" them, because I wasn't in a receptive frame of mind at the time. Thanks for the reminders. As I sat listening to this video, I have been mentally organizing some things and will do them immediately after the video ends!

I just finished reorganizing the garage which includes my crafting space and finished about 5 this morning ....finally... YAY!!
The container method is so valuable.... I had set up three rules for myself when I went out to organize this time and they are as follows:
1) Streamline, everything.
2) Easy in
3) Easy out
Numbers two and three could probably work as sub-points but you get the idea.....
Oh how the "container method" came into play in a huge way in this fashion.
Also, I noticed that your table was clear.... this was something I had to do, also.
In the beginning, I couldn't figure out what was making me so crazy every time I would walk out to my crafting space....
The question, "What's making you crazy?" ...also, came into play in a huge way.
Clearing the table did not go quickly.....🙄.....
Oh no.... it took some doing.
I could think of every reason in the world to keep that table full but I knew it was NOT making me happy.
So I began with pulling "one item" at a time off the table and then sitting down for 10 or 15 minutes and trying to decide.... literally trying to decide, "okay, what's the next item I pull off?"
Each time, I cajoled myself thinking, " I can always put it back if it doesn't work."
Interesting enough.... I found a place for each item that came off that table.
That table is completely clear except for the lamp that sits in the middle(lighting there isn't as good).
The cord sits wrapped in a pipe cleaner....I set up a universal plug in unit close by....to plug the lamp...the cricut machine....and, other needed things in when in use.
I can honestly say that this was the biggest advantage (this time)

I open the door to go out to the crafting space and already I'm feeling creative... I'm feeling inspired... I'm feeling freer to do my craft.
The other thing I did was something that you also touched on.... and that was to bring items closer to me that I used more regularly.....now, THIS took some doing.
Years ago, I had purchased a piece of furniture that could house tchotchkes....
I added some shelves....and, it became my rubber stamping, area.
FOR YEARS, I LOVED this shelving unit.
While, organizing this time, I decided, I was literally OVER looking at shelves of stamps.
SOOOOO....
I began, "possibility thinking".
I did get rid of a few stamps but most of them, I kept.
Placing most of them into a different area, I did keep one shelve of stamps in view that could be used for future stamping projects.
The shelving unit SUDDENLY took on new life!😀
I now was replacing wooden block stamps ....used occasionally...with items....I use all the time....inks....LOVE USING INKS....my other markers....Cricut cartridges....YES...I still use and LOVE THESE.....
Applicators....block to add makeup sponges, too.
I LOVE IT!!!!
I KNEW I had come upon the right answer for this furniture piece...when I found myself already using those supplies WHILE I was organizing!

IT'S TAKEN ME MONTHS to figure out another system....for all my cutting dies....I FOUND IT!!!😀
Looking at my paper organizer, one day, ...you know the kind...6 iris drawers ...I LOVE these...I love paper flat....that's my quirk....I know it's not everyone's. ...but, its mine.
Using a huge supply of magnets and cardstock cut from old insurance forms ...I fashioned a drawer system to house my dies....BUT, this time, I took out the drawers...and, replaced them with magnetized covered 3 pieces of cardstock...glued taped and hot glued together placed in 9×13 cake pans.
Each cake pan is a different theme housed and labeled, accordingly .
This idea is the closest I get to that somewhat represents an Alex drawer system with magnets, added.
Again, ANOTHER WIN!
I'm diligently trying to stay out of the craft stores... I'll allow myself to go in once in awhile to either get supplies needed or maybe just get an idea or two.
I think I've been in one craft store since August... for me that's very good.
I know this was quite lengthy but you inspire me in so many ways.

When I first discovered you, I set my calendar by all the days of the week that you were on. Those days were the highlight of my week. Have you decided to cut back this year? It may be my imagination but I do miss the special touch you give to your projects. I hope you can return to your former TH-cam schedule. Missing you. If this is just my imagination, please forgive me. Maybe I have too much time on my hands.
I’ve been working my way around the house, slowly decluttering. I’m leaving the craft room til last because I know that will be the hardest room to do. For a long time I thought I needed to find a way to fit in more storage but recently I realised that I have enough (maybe even too much) storage already. The problem is having too much stuff… just in case. Your tips should help me make a more realistic job of organising the room when I eventually get to it. Thanks.

I have finally got around to organizing my craft stuff. So far I have cricut, cardboard and wood all separated. I do well with the bigger stuff but struggle with the smaller supplies. I will try to remember not to micro organize. Thank you so much for your videos. They really help.

I used something this year that I have had for 15 yrs or more. So, letting go of things you haven't used isn't always a good thing.
I have too... the deciding factor usually boils down to if space is needed or not. If you have the space for those items - then it's not hurting anything to hold on to them - but if you are not able to enjoy your space due to space constraints and clutter, better to let them go. :)
I too have some very old stuff that I can now use as my kids are older. I didn't have the time then, but now that I don't have the money, I have the time. Been having a ball using up older supplies.
Unless it's old or dried out. Some things store and some things don't- bath and bodyworks lotions and soaps DON'T store!! I was keeping some "as a special treat" and they changed scent and color. Some things are meant to be used - like mousse
