I'll show you how I find reliable, safe overnight parking/camping spots along my route, tell you about a CRAZY road rage scene we came upon AND I'll tell you how I punked my own Mom and made her believe I was in Oregon while I was really on my way to surprise her!

How fun it is to watch you... I was abt your age when I traveled alone while hubby watch the ranch. I went to SLC UT and parked at the hospital parking lot... Then off to TN and parked across the street from the National Archives, then parked in a Hotel parking lot.... Them there were the good ol days in the early 90's with a self contained RV...

Since I've found your channel, I often take some time here and there to catch up with your older videos, but always try to stay current. I happened on this one today, and how serendipitous it was to find it. I just retired and had planned on starting on the road full-time in my RV August 13 (a plan in the works for nearly two years). On August 2nd I had a bad fall, shattering my wrist.. which has now delayed my 'start'. So, provided I can leave sometime this month barring PT, or whatever else the Universe has in store for me, I now feel I need to pick up my pace a bit to make my way down south for the winter months. This video is really going to help, and I'm checking out RV Parky today. Thank you. As always, great videos.

I’ve been watching your videos for a while but somehow I missed this one! I always get a kick out of your quirky personality and the amazing info you’re feeding all of your viewers. Thank you and glad the whole road rage incident came out without anyone being harmed. This young thug was out of control and I actually am praying for him that he realizes his current direction is not going to be a good choice.

I prefer to tell loved ones I am coming so they can enjoy thinking about seeing me in the near future. Surprise lasts a short time

Hadn't thought about getting one of those...but seems like a good idea. And I'm so glad you got your mom!!! Those are the best moments in life.
I have a go pro but now only use it for day can shots. Otherwise I use a Canon. Thanks!
Loved the video, but it wouldn’t work for me because of the lying part. I’ve surprised family members in the past but mostly because I didn’t keep in touch with them so closely (ping my whereabouts daily). I’ve had to come up with creative ideas at times but not outright lie. Glad you made it safely to the surprise.
Oh wow. I'm glad you're home safe after that road rage incident. That's crazy. Unfortunately, it happens on the back roads, too. I just recently had my own (second) experience with a freak trying to intimidate me and get me to pull over late at night. It lasted like 15 miles and I was out on a two-lane state road by myself. Many years before this, the same thing happened except it was a semi right behind me. Obviously, I didn't let either one of them bully me into pulling over. The only way I was going to come to a full stop for them was when I pulled up in front of a police station. Lol. You have to watch out for these idiots no matter where you're driving. 🙄

I was most certainly NOT impeding traffic. I was going the speed limit and higher. I was being "chased" by them. You know, like stalking me.

I've been bing watching your channel since yesterday. Just love it. I got the bug when I traveled with my husband in his 18 wheeler. He's still out there but I came home to take care of my sister. Plus our chihuahua developed some nervous problem that seam cruel to keep taking him out. I think it has something to do with the engine and his hearing. I used trucker path for parking but I would think rv parking people would have a nicer website. Truckers can be rough. You know you just might have saved that guy's life. Maybe both of them. Kudos

Sneaky but worth it.
Sorry to be negative but last year I read there have been travelers gone missing while traveling on that highway that goes through Winnemucca. I would not stop for any reason for someone or stay in a rest are. Be....careful!
gb Marie I wouldn't stop on the highway either but rest area have come a long way in the last 20 years. I tried to find data on crime for my blog and it dropped significantly. However you have to of course look around and judge if the place you're stopping seems safe. For example I usually don't stop if I see any sketchy people or drug use, I do stop if I see other rvers like me or families around. Like I've said before I do what I can to make myself as safe as possible and then I live my life without fear 😉

My guess is he was on meth. They go into rages for no good reason and tend to be very paranoid which can lead to more rages. Scary stuff.
Love the videos!!! How long did the trip take as far as driving goes? Google maps showed just over 19 hours, do you have any idea how much longer it took to drive it? I'm trying to get an idea for pacing on travel for my first big trip (next week hopefully!!) :)

Hi girlie....Question... on your video where you was driving by the water..... I saw a few sections that looked like there were stairs going down near the water bank....(Is there knocking there)???
Alvara DaCosta boondocking? No, that was a place we pulled off the highway in CA to get breakfast, there were houses on the other side of the street so the stairs were for them I think. I wish I could remember the name of that town it was amazing!
