    Hey! New viewer here..
I just wanted to say that I see some of your fans complaining "whaaaat another one??! We get it, contracts are terrible," and I actually think they're great.
Trust me, you have helped a bunch of people not go on these shows and you have saved them from a life of near indentured servitude.
Thank you for exposing the disgusting corporate greed that hides behind the cheerful plastered smiles of these judges.
    Thank you..

This .is. really. disgusting! Signing ALL of your intelectual property over? ALL OF IT? all the books you might've written, every video, every copyright you own? I feel sorry for the kids on this one! They dont know what they're singing themselves into, and the adults dont usually check every single aspect of it. They can screw themselves for life because of one mistake they did when 14. ugh.

This explains why any talented singers, no matter how heavenly their voices are, even if they won, would vanish from the face of the earth, never to be heard again, if they got into talent show like The Voice or BGE...

This is some of the worse case of modern day slavery I’ve ever heard from a television show. This is actually a form of indentured servitude. The term which created slavery in the US. What do you think the worst part of this contract is? For me, giving up legal rights is just too much.
Quick editors note: I don't know why there are random audio volume drops, Premiere Pro was constantly crashing during this edit and I didn't think it was worth the headache of fixing it rather than just dealing with a few seconds of lower audio, I hope you understand

I think its worse than the BGT one. But then again, I know UK law more than US and I know whats standard and "acceptable" in legal terms whilst I do not know what is legally acceptable or standard in US law. By all we know, the signing away all your civil rights (surely that must be against UN's human rights, of which the US has signed up for?) is standard in america in any industry and/or workplace. Who Knows.
All I know is BGT's contract is totally normal...doesn't make it any less disgusting, granted but they have to cover themselves. It is exactly like how you wouldn't want anyone making money out of your content or using social media to be defamatory about you and/or your band's life. Would you? That is what contracts basically all say. Just in case you try it on. And because this is a career prospect, they then say all the things about image etc, as the music industry (and entertainment industry in general) relies heavily on image. That is anything to do with you and/or your opinions. So that is why it wasn't a shock hearing they own everything you ever say on social media. As the world is now, social media is basically everyones diary (why I don't use it).

I'M pretty sure that in Germany this would be 100% illegal. ( I think it is that way: if you sign a contract that says something and a court decides that that what was written their is not right, you have not to obey that even though you signed it because it is illegal. Like when renting an apartment: it is illegal to forbid animals. that sounds good, but is not that practical in real life, but better than beeing someones bitch because you didnt hire a lawyer to read the stuff you sign)

You are saving people from ruining their lives. Also I think it’s great that you do different contracts... yea the overview is that they all suck and don’t sign them, but going over these contracts allows people to hear the verbiage and legal diction/jargon that is written.. so if they ever get a contract in the future they’ll know what to look for and how it’s masked in different ways. Very interesting! I would really love to see you try to apply some of this legal stuff to some celebrities that went through these talent shows and are no longer with their companies that initially signed them because they "went separate ways"... Only hypothetically of course :) Because while this is all very educational for someone like me (who is interested in knowing how this machinery works in real life but has no idea of legal terminology), it all makes sense only in very hypothetical way, I cannot really see it working in real life... Does that make sense? For example, you can take a hypothetical boy band who went on and became successful after the show, but later went different direction (lol). All of this legal stuff makes me think how different the showbiz must work, and we, as mere observers can only see one side of it all. You have the understanding of (or at least you are much closer to understanding) how it truly works behind the closed doors/after the contract is signed. Does that make sense? I would just love to see all of this applied to something I already know from media and have only one-sided knowledge of. In any case, thank you for the video!

    • @Maryhavo1
      @Maryhavo1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah. I´d really love to know if they -have- to remain silent about some aspects of it or if they just decided that because of professional courtesy. And just recently I read somewhere some stats of how overworked they were (multiple albums and many tours in such short time), so however one may feel about their music or their place in music industry, something obviously wasn´t right. But I am in no way expert in this, probably other celebrities/bands were under similar "slave" contracts, but I just haven´t heard about them and I´d love to know... It should be known, imho.
I can think of one other artist - Rebecca Ferguson, just recently spoke about how the industry (understand: people in it...) f****d her over. I would just really love to know IF it is possible to find out the truth somehow, or if once you sign the contract, you basically sign with the devil and are no longer able to talk about anything.

I'm guessing with some performers that have enough "value" in a commercial sense that their contact is essentially just sold to another company.
But if they wanted to keep you or no other company was interested in buying your contract I imagine you would be out of luck
I dont know though, that's just how it seems to work from an outside perspective.

I don’t know if anyone knows this but in the early years of The Voice, one of the requirements for the show in the old contract is that you must be willing to move to LA before you audition out of your own pocket. You couldn’t travel to your audition and then go back home to wherever you were from like the other talent reality shows. No you gotta move before your audition in front of the coaches. The reason why I know this is because I looked into of the possibility of auditioning for the show back around 2013 and that requirement is what made me decide to not to audition. I am glad to hear that they changed it because 1.) it was ridiculous and 2.) like not everyone who goes on the show to the coaches auditions gets to the next round so if you move to LA just to audition for the show and no coach turns their chair, you’re done and stuck in LA until your lease for your apartment is up. So again I’m glad that they changed this!

I seriously doubt that if that is in fact the contract that it would hold up in court. Noncompete clauses are not valid in California, or if they are they have to be "reasonable," and antitrust law would nuke about six other clauses. Please don't forget these people are so desperate to be on television that they consider it a fair trade. Also the male performers get a ton of SEX from groupies, while the females are performing for every rich man in the audience. Don't think for a second that they are exploited. It's just part of the business.
