I like to think of myself as a practical man. I have static bases with scanners, battery chargers and food farms in strategic locations for resupply and storage of excess material. I take my Cyclops wherever i go with a pravler or a seamoth in tow depending on the objective at hand.
My fears of the deep sea are the strongest i have, this game is a true horror game for me, being inside the Cyclops brings me comfort. I also like to play with buttons.

Flintlock am I the only one that has shown zero fear from all these monsters I’ve encountered?

I usually just make 1 base that I go to everytime, powered by solar panels and thermal plants (Usually close to the grand reef or the safe shallows, since they always have thermal vents and lava geysers, not to mention some basic resources I can easily gather just outside my base). I hate making multiple bases, since making them in the first place is a pain. Then I turn my Cyclops in to a sort of base. No fabricators, chargers, anything that uses power because I don't like having my Cyclops getting drained and possibly getting my ship stranded in the middle of the ocean. But I do make a farm and up the storage for resources.

    • @hohtari1
      @hohtari1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +28

My main bases are located in safe shallows very near to lifepod 5, in the SW grass fields near lifepod 17, and in the Giant tree cove in lost river. Powered by solar panels, heat sources and nuclear reactors. This setup gives me a clear and compact routes to most areas of the map and safe places to sort my shit out at.
I dislike long travel, i like to have a place to seek cover from nearby. Especially when leviathans or the lost river are involved.
In addition to that i have tiny scanner bases powered by bioreactors wherever needed for finding databoxes and materials. I have a locker with the components at the ready for quick deployment.

    • @JIKwood

The water filtration machine though could be useful considering you get salt for food and water

    • @rsajay6256
      @rsajay6256 6 ปีที่แล้ว +159

Not mad about the coffee machine's rate of hydration tho... Personally water purifier, and 👉🏽 salt 👈🏽 Salt + tube coral = 1x bleach. 1x bleach = 2x disinfected water from the fabricator, and 1 bleach takes less space in your escape pod storage than 2 bottles of water 😎. Before you even get a water purifier aim for as much salt as possible. Tube coral is easy, you can hack at the tube anywhere, not just the plates, and it NEVER runs out. Salt is common on the seabed near the seaweed forests, and in the red grass areas. Also, once you can upgrade to the thermal knife, cured (salted) fish is less important, as the knife kills and cooks fish. Going deep? Catch a few live Reggies or Peepers and take them along, and hotknife them when you need to eat, they give +food & a small +water as opposed to -water for salted fish. New game & desperate for food & water? Eat the green kelp samples for food & water, but be quick as it goes off pretty fast. Once you have growbeds and Bulbo trees / marble melons your worries are over. Oh and another interesting thing, if you're in an area with a lot of Reggies or Peepers, catch them and let them go by your habitat, they'll stay there and you can utilise them later. Oh and never ever get into your Cyclops if you have a cuddlefish following you. Your little waterbro can get stuck in the sub & die, and can also mess up the clipping of your Cyclops, causing you to fall through the sub to the seabed with indoors physics pretty much shagging your game as it happens more and more often after the first time.

Note you CAN get infinite power on your cyclops. For each Efficiency mod you make things cost less. So instead of costing you 200 to charge a powercell of 200, you can make it 180, at a 10% discount. The effect stacks however it means you have to constantly cycle the cells, due to your only getting the discounted % back as returns

  • @taurussoberano4813
    @taurussoberano4813 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Just an advise, energy cell recharger inside the cyclops is a little useless, it drains the same energy amount from your cyclops to recharge the same at the power cells, the easiest way i like to do is get the thermal reactor module and park the ciclops right above a hotspot, theres also one on safe area, so you can recharge your power cells directly from the cyclops power cells bay.

My own version of the Cyclops Base is similar, but has notable differences. First was a lot less lockers, I never once had to make extra lockers outside of the entrance and locker area except for specific things I'll get into in a second. Also, I kept one resource per locker except for a few that were labeled PRECURSOR or CREEPVINE which contained anything I could make or get from that; SILVER contained wiring kits also and COPPER had copper wire too. Used prawn suit to gather materials if I ran low.
From the control area , I added a standing locker on the right side of the sub next to the big hatch for extra or unused equipment like propulsion cannon, fins, the radiation suit after I fixed the leaks. I also added a lab counter on the left side of control room behind the hatch for decoration.
Just past the hatch, I had my single person bed with two pots with the chinese plants on either side of the it and an Aurora poster above it too, all on the left side. On right side of this area, I had two standing lockers, one for misc tech and the other for health, food, and water. Alongside these where a fabricator, modification station, a battery charger, and a power cell charger. A health kit thing remained mostly untouched above the hatch side of this small area.
In the main area of the ship, I had a trash can and a coffee maker (mostly decoration) on the front left side of the ship, vending machine on the front right (also decor), aquarium on the elevated part near the middle hatch across from the access for storage and upgrade for the prawn suit, and a grow bed filled with the marblemellon plants for food in front of the creature decoy thing. A storage locker next to the creature decoy held all my batteries, power cells, and of course the decoys. On the walls of this area was misc posters and a radio that looked more like a router because of how it interacted with the wall.
Last thing I had was that kitty poster above the engine. I had the thermal upgrade in the cyclops so I can charge power cells and batteries in heat areas without worrying about power. Other upgrades were the shield, sonar, efficiency, depth, and I can't remember what else, but probably the prawn repair one. Never used the fire suppression system tho, never went full speed and used the shield to avoid attacks.
Overall, my cyclops became my home. I had only one base the whole game that I stopped using after I got the cyclops; I never even really made a temp base although I had two lockers dedicated to such a thing.
Temp base included a single corridor, hatch, battery and power cell chargers, glass for windows, two flood lights, and it was all powered by a thermal generator and one of the power conduits if it was needed.

the way i do it: have enough storage for basic things, and 2-3 lockers designated to an 'emergency base' if i need to set up a small camp somewhere. a vending machine, 3 coffee machines, a bed and upgrades: thermal reactor, efficiency, depth mk3, repair module, hull reinforcement, sonar. if you pilot it correctly you wont even need the fire suppression system. the emergency base stuff should be for a large room, hatch, power supplies, water, indoor growbed, fabricator and battery+power cell chargers. the vehicle should always be a prawn suit.

The cockpit would be completely bare, save for a fire extinguisher, a wall locker full of spare extinguishers, a fabricator, and a coms setup, the room just be hind the Cockpit would be the living quarters, with a coffee machine and a vending machine, the room just aft of that would be the med-bay and grow room with some over flow storage of med kits as well as battery/power cell chargers, then the engine room would have all of the items stored up in it that are pertinent to the Cyclops like upgrade modules, and some fire suppression items as well as a few spare repair tools, then the lower room just aft of the entrance would be the main storage room, the room just under the engine room would be for more over flow storage, and in the main airlock room, there’d be several “dump-chests” (wall lockers) for any resources I need to get out of my inventory quickly.
Also, one of the chests in the foreword airlock would be filled with the resources required for an outpost. The Cyclops would also be outfitted with a Prawn Suit for mining, or a sea moth for exploration and escape.
There would also be a “main base” but the cyclops would be a fully outfitted mobile base so if the main one fails I’m not caught up shit Creek with out a paddle.

a bit late to the thread but thought I'd point out a few things. first you can place things much more densely than that, I have four lockers, radio, batt charger, trash, mod station, and more just up in the front section. Second, the best source of food and water is bulbo trees, just a row of three pots will keep you permanently fed and watered. (tho you may want 4) I have a base with a huge peeper aquarium (5 level) and water filter and that keeps my cyclops lockers stoked with salted peepers and bottled water for prawn excursions, so I have no need to keep live fish onboard. You can also place 6 lockers up front beside your fabricator, and four pots for edible flora variety at the VERY rear of the ship on the upper level. (to keep melons, taters, bulbo, and lantern) Thanks for the idea on where to place the bed, that works well. Another good suggestion is to keep a full set of fully charged ion cells handy "just in case".

The Cyclops can't do quite everything, but, TBH, you can easily use the PRAWN and portals to quickly zip to a shallows base for access to a moon pool, if you have any sense. Upgrade the PRAWN jets, use grappler, and mount thermal module, and you can quickly travel in style. It is also a good idea to deploy beacons at the portal arches.

It can be a basic-bitch self-sustaining base. You can live in your cyclops. I put a bed, indoor growbed filled with marblemelons, lantern fruit trees, and a chinese potato plane.
The bridge has 2 wall lockers with water and medkits in it, and i have a medkit fab above the door.
The room behind the bridge has a bed, vending machine and coffee machine in it.
You can equip the thermal charger module and stop at a vent somewhere to recharge.
You can't equip a vehicle mod station. But you can equip a repair station, and have a locker or two to keep various modules so you can change them as needed.
And last but not least, i have 2 wall lockers in engineering, filled with power cells.
Took a while stocking everything up, but it was worth it.
Again, it's a basic base. But it is indeed a, key word: *self-sustaining,* base.

best survival tips ill trow in the mix would be fight nature with nature.
acid shroom seeds.melons.firefruit.waterplant.creepvine and brain coral is your best friends.
melons mostly because they give both food and water and 1 seed only take 1 slot and can grow 4 in a small flowerpot.
brain corals can be used for refill stations for air and best of all used as elevator shafts with full air supply.
bubbles goes all way to surface and this way you have full tank when reaching bottom .
creepvine is a free light source. put 6 in a cropplot and you can light up a base with it.
also a good free way to mark checkpoints with air at cave diving.
recommend using the X shaped pipe for "drop base" since it only 2 titanium and can hold alot of lockers and even a plantpot with melons. make hatch ontop.
firefruit i use for bio reactors in deep tunnels. its a one time planting and it yield plenty to fuel base.
place a seperate plot with some acid shrooms so you can make emergency batteries if needed.
this way you can do it as a no sub challenge and just use cyclops as surface vessel.
also prawn is only needed to farm a few ion and for blue tablet.
and yes. its easy to reach emperor this way. you attract less attention and get to see way more of map.
i only do no sub runs .
try it.. i highly recommend it.
you can also befriend a local stalker by feeding it some peepers. after some it will bring you gifts.
oh yeah. and in beginning save your 0% batteries and powercells and use them for crafting equipment and powercells.
when crafting , 2 dead batteries can become a fully charged powercell.
a great tip for before finding chargers.

I dont know if it was not the same then, or if you know now, but when a cyclops gets destroyed, the wreckage sinks to the seabed right where it was. It always stays there. Basically the only difference is theres no power, no oxygen, and you cant move it. You can still access any storage that you have in the cyclops. It also drops some metal salvage too.
Although the destroyed model for the cyclops is always the same. The back is torn off, the cockpit window is broken open, and one of the vehicle bay doors is ripped off. I truly wish that one day the destroyed model will reflect how it was destroyed.

I always use my Cyclops as a mobile base. All I do when I start out is I stock up on rare materials (uranite, ruby, silver, nickel ore, etc.) and materials you can only find in the Kelp Forests, such as Seed Clusters, Creepvine Samples, and Stalker Teeth. Also, you have to see to it that you actually plant the vines as often as you can or you'll kick yourself if you ever need some Fiber Mesh or Bleach for whatever reason and have to go all the way back to the Safe Shallows just to get 4 or 5 of them.
I also see to it that I build all the upgrades I need for the Cyclops before I start moving towards the lava zones. The Thermal Recharge upgrade is invaluable early on since it can be used as early as the Safe Shallows at the small underwater volcanoes.
The biomes in-between Inactive Lava Zone and Safe Shallows have a tendency not to have a lot of the stuff you require in order to build bases and other things you need further on into the story.

    • @MrSpicyGaming
      @MrSpicyGaming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes they did remove the solar panel option quite sometime ago from the Cyclops. Initially your power generation option will be a temporary base for recharging. However, once you have the scans and materials you can also use the Seamoth's Solar module, the Prawn Suit Thermal module, and the Cyclops Thermal module as ways to recharge power cells. However these are a bit slower than a well powered base with a couple of power cell chargers.

what the Cyclops lacks in order to become a "main base" is power generation and water filtration, plus some invisible walls on top of most.. well, walls, make the wall mounted furniture float mid-air and that's a -1000 style points to me.
My cyclops just has some energy cell chargers underneath the engine room (mostly for the looks, I don't use them to charge the cells as it just doesn't work), classic interior planter in front of the decoy storage, two medkits (one on the bridge and one in the locker rooms, right behind the front door), aquarium with a bench in front of it that's facing 3 vases and a display with some fancy screenshots and a standing locker on the leftmost side to house my gear.
Under the engine room I also have a wall locker with some beacons and light wands to highlight some areas even though I never use it, but it's still piece of mind.

Would like to comment that this video was done during Early Access, but overall it's still a decent guide, though a few things have changed: IIRC, you can no longer build a Power Cell Charger inside the Cyclops. Not sure about the Battery Charger. Second, I highly recommend always keeping the Thermal Reactor module installed; there are lots of geysers spread throughout the whole map, and if you were ever running a little low on power, just park it ontop of a geyser and wait for a recharge, perhaps while getting out and doing stuff. Said geysers are nearly everywhere, and they are basically refuelling stations on their own. That way you don't have to worry about power cells, just don't run yourself dry, maybe keep one fresh set of cells on-hand for emergencies. On the topic of growbeds and plant pots, there's a certain amount of food that's just overkill and this is getting pretty close. You only need enough food to last you until the next plants grow as you can't take the plants with you (they'll rot) and they really don't take that long to grow. I would say two small pots full of marblemelons would easily sustain you indefinitely on both Food and Water, and if you were really paranoid about accidentally eating all of them, do a 3rd small plant pot just in case.
That said, you still need the vehicle upgrade console for the PRAWN Suit's upgrades, so you will actually need a base somewhere in the world that you can build said upgrades with. Though to be honest, all of the upgrades you build with said console (with the exception of just one: the thermal reactor for the PRAWN) take, at worst, Nickel and Crystallized Sulphur, both of which can be gathered with a Seamoth (though just barely). Once you make all of those, you're free of needing a stationary base entirely as the depth modules' upgrades are actually built at the modification station that you can place in your cyclops.
Also want to point out, that unless you're speedrunning the building of the Cyclops, it is highly unlikely that you will have any radio messages left to receive by the time you actually build the cyclops, assuming you're not going Creative Mode.

Based on what I’ve seen others do, and from what I’ve read on the wiki, this is about the most efficient way to spec a Cyclops.
One thing I want to ask, though: do you still need to build multiple of an upgrade to get the full effect (example, four Cyclops power efficiency modules for full effect)? Or were they all changed to be like the Depth Modules (one version upgrades into the next)?
If they were not changed, then I hope that’s something added in the next game.

    • @DragonxFlutter

The Cyclops could have had some upgrades be a permanent physical addition, aided by the hab builder.
Fire Suppression, Docking Bay Auto Repair, Decoy Magazine, and arguably Power Efficiency could all be things that have a physical presence in order to save slots. And, again arguably, the Shield and Thermal Generator could be limped in here as well.

How is being called a cowboy rude? Us cowboys work harder than most people you see in a semi large town or city

Hear me out guys, I don’t think you actually NEED a base setup to charge your cells. What I do is have a few lockers dedicated to “base materials”. Those lockers are full of materials to make one multipurpose room, a bio reactor (Or your preferred easy power method), enough to build a few power cell chargers, a locker or two, and a hatch. That way, you can stop your cyclops anywhere and just build your base up quick and easy! Also, I would recommend that you ditch the ground planter due to how big it is. There are a few spots on the bottom level and top level of the cyclops where you can fit several wall planters to put seeds for food. Also, you’re going to go kinda crazy with being stranded on that planet, so I recommend an aquarium to store some fishy friends!

In the room between the bridge and docking bay you can actually put 6 standing lockers on either side if you rotate them 90° and you can stil put some stuff on the wall next to it.

Honestly the charging base is only necessary before you get to the Lava Zone. Even after you get back to the surface, any thermal vent would recharge your cyclops.

I only had a cyclops never a big base. I had a back up solution of course so i didnt lose my whole save if my cyclops was destroyed and for some reason i didnt have a recent save, but saving is easy.
