Snoek Velomobile: A testing ride

- Finally got out for the ride during this heatwave. It was cloudy this morning, so I jumped at the chance of a sub-100ºF ride. But it was a testing ride in more ways than one. Featuring my new motorcycle dashcam and one fast triathlete/timetrialist.

Great video, thanks for sharing.
Great video! So many things happened to you in such a short time frame!
Thanks. Yes, I hate unscheduled stops when it’s hot. It can only get hotter.
That noise, ( at 1:46 ) isn't that just the sound of the tires going over the markings on the road and cracks in the tarmac ?
Some of it definitely is. But some of it isn't in sync with the gaps in the pavement. It's rattling of some sort. I could not find the microphone port on the device. But I put some padding now between the headunit and the lip of the Snoek manhole.
I was in Tuscon once. It was July and when I got out of the car I burst into flames like a vampire meeting sunlight!!! 😁 🔥 How you can actually ride in that heat???
You get acclimated and then also take measures to improve the velomobile's cooling. Ride early in the morning. Not at 3pm. Simple things that make a difference. But I enjoyed your vampire analogy!
The bracket of my DF did also come loose multiple times. Ymte (ICB) fixed this with a bit of loctite on the big plastic screw
Thanks. Good to know! I need to tighten mine today.
I added blue loctite to the preload nut for the left crank arm. Hopefully it stays longer, but I can still easily get it out when needed.
@@shenzhenpingpong after this action (more than a year ago) it never come loose again
@@mvdriel I hope the same will be true for me too! I think the reason it occurs on mine is that the left crank and the splined interface is not meshing exactly well, there is a tiny bit of rocking possible, means that the left crank arm will squirm even under my low power despite tightening the pinch bolt, and eventually the preload bolt will walk and unscrew itself from the threaded part.
Looks like your beam is set very high. Wouldn’t want to come into your way in a velomobile 😊
That’s high beam mode! No cars after midnight. I need to be able to see stuff in the road up ahead downed by our monsoon storms.
@@shenzhenpingpong I see. For high beam it is fine
@@rhein228 thank you for confirming I didn’t do something stupid. I used the “one cm lower for every meter” metric to align the dipped beam while indoors. I have a 13 meter corridor in my house. Then I put a tape to mark 13cm lower than 35cm (height of my light).
Great video Mr. F. I don't recall you going that fast (58km/hr) during that section of the loop on your DF. It looks like you've gotten adjusted to the Snoek really well now. My cruising speed is around 28mph or 45km/hr on the DFXL on flat, no wind and not smooth roads. Are you saving your DF for your son to grow into it?
Thanks. The Snoek is getting better, little by little. The DF is a spare. It’s ready to ride. Then I can work on my Snoek without the pressure that it has to be done now, so I can commute on it tomorrow.
@pedal Fong is wasting about 40 watts riding with open foot cover(now he fixed that) and open manhole entrance. if he would add latex tubes thats 12watts+waxed chain 5 watts. carbon rims 24 watts, for all 3 wheels. if you go above 50km/h aerodynamics beat everything.
@@DonaldDuck666 , wait. I've never ridden with an open foot cover. I have different foot covers though, now flat. I use a visor for the manhole, as it's impossible to use the race hood except in winter here. I have a waxed chain on my DF. Not yet on my Snoek, still the stock drivetrain.
waxing will increase your chainlife by 300% and adde another 10 watts saving, even better then ceramicchains, get the squirt wax its cheap and easy to apply@@shenzhenpingpong
