  • I got a perhaps unique chance to ride a velomobile in downtown Tokyo. I was surprised someone in Tokyo had a Snoek. And I was even more surprised he had a 2nd velomobile. So when I had chance to visit, I jumped at the chance. And I got to ride an Alpha7.

    Life seems so wonderfully tidy there! Even the car drivers seem likeable :) Thanks for sharing!

      Yes, I am envious that they have a good way of life and excellent manners. It's a shame the USA is not as safe.

      @basedboi7885 , it's a question of education. Americans think about themselves, not others. So what if they squish the cyclist, he was slowing me down and inconveniencing me, so he deserved what he got. Japanese society seems to be centered around obeying the rules and thinking of others first. Inside, the driver might be annoyed too, but they don't show it.

    Pity I didn't know there's at least one Velomobile in Tokyo, just four weeks ago we were staying in Shinjuku on the other side of that station! (Nishitetsu Shinjuku Hotel)
    We had a good time in Japan, only three weeks, and being cautious for the many bikes swerving on and off the pavement and avoiding pedestrians!

    At 15:30 in the video, you are near Sengoku station, which isn't very far from my station. I pass by it sometimes on my Cruzbike V20.

      @@shenzhenpingpong Sounds like a plan. Did you buy the Alpha or are you going to bring your own wheels? Love the vids of you riding in the US. Any plans to do the RAAM or TABR in the future?

    • @shenzhenpingpong
      @shenzhenpingpong  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@casualguy393 , no I borrowed the Alpha7 from my friend in Shinjuku. It's for sale, so it might not be around when I visit next for work. I've twice been RAAM qualified, but I don't think I could do it. Stomach distress. Nutrition issues over 1200 km. TABR would be cool though. Don't know how dangerous the route is though. Would have to drive it to see.

    How was the right mirror mounted? Is it something that you'd recommend, the larger mirror?

    • @shenzhenpingpong
      @shenzhenpingpong  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a bicycle mirror and surprisingly good. Just taped to the mirror behind it. In Tokyo traffic, a wide angle of view is a good thing. For Tucson, we don't need that angle of view.

      What I did (I'm his friend) was I used a hack saw to cut off the arm mount and then used double sided gorilla tape on the bottom edge of the wide mirror to form the primary bond with the Alpha 7, then I used white gorilla tape to secure it to the existing mirror. In high traffic areas, the larger mirror is mandatory because you really need to see if there are bicycles coming up right next to you, then if there are cars, and then also the far lane. You need a wide mirror for all of this information. I tried both the Snoek and Alpha 7 stock mirrors and both times I had to add this wide mirror, it my opinion it is a LOT safer. Also try to get a wide mirror with anti-glare coating for nighttime.

      @@100toeface Thanks so much for the info, especially the anti-glare coating. I have a zefal mirror that looks like that one but I'm sure there's no anti glare coating. The other thing I worry about regarding the wide mirror as you mentioned is the car headlights when it's darker out or just some cars have their bright headlights on all the time. Do you have the make/model of the mirror?

    What is your chainring & cassette??? Would you think a 18 g pinion gearbox would benefit??? You need a Bluetooth headset/communication....

    • @shenzhenpingpong
      @shenzhenpingpong  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know the values exactly of the chainring. I didn't count. I guess the rear cassette is 11-40. Double chainring is the most efficient. Pinion gears lose efficiency.

      長さ250CMなので日本では自転車の基準に当てはまりませんね。でも軽車両としてあつかわれ、特に自転車型の軽車両に関しては歩道通行が可能なのようです。なので特に問題はないかと。その他細かいところは僕の把握するところではないですが。
