    At 4:22 did re tighten the plug to the radiator at the bottom of the car? So when you ran the car with the distilled water it wouldn't flush out.

      Hi David,
      I did re-tighten the plug around the 3:40 mark.
      The I leveled out my car and removed the silcock once more to see if any more fluid would drain. After a tiny bit dribbled out I placed the plug back into positon @4:16
      That last bit just wasn't typed out in text at the bottom.

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The second Oil Change? or second flush?
      If you forgot the oil cap, you'll most likely have some spots of oil splattered around the engine bay.
      If you forgot the radiator cap, it's not really a big deal until the coolant becomes of temperature. Then it may start to boil out.
      We all make mistakes and I try to include any that I make in my videos :)

    I have 2018 Fit; bought new. It has 63,000 km in it. The dealer is insisting that the coolant needs to be change every 60,000 km. When I check the coolant it is still nice clean blue, like new. Any thoughts folks?

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is your Honda Fit under any type of warranty? If yes, then I would go ahead with their recommendation.
      Not performing required maintenance by the dealership may void any type of warranty that you have.
      If it's not under warranty you could also check the fluid with testing strips. (Much like ph strips for a pool)
      This is what the mechanic shops basically do to test your coolant.
      If you feel comfortable enough I would try to drain some coolant from the peacock at the bottom. This way you can see if there's anything in the system that has settled at the bottom.
      For the most part if your fluid looks good and the strips test ok your system should be fine. If your coolant was discoloured or had any particulates in it you'd probably be experiencing other issues.
      I changed my coolant again at 100k miles and it was still the same. The next fluid change I will test the coolant with the strips and run it through some filters to show everyone.

    How much coolant were you able to empty by the drain plug? I Imagine there’s still some of it left in the engine and reservoir?

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Matt,
      Specs say that the 3rd gen Fit takes 1.1-1.3 gallons of coolant which is about what I put back into the system.
      I did lift the car from the back end to see if any more dripped out but there was no change.
      Any residual coolant left in the engine would be washed out during the distilled water flush process.
      There was about 1 cup or .23 liters of coolant in the radiator reservoir. Since my coolant wasn't drastically discolored or the fluidity hasn't changed I did not find it necessary to empty the reservoir.
      As for this video, I followed the instructions on the Blue Devil Radiator Flush bottle which did not mention to drain the radiator reservoir.
      There's are other ways and variation to perform a flush. Some flushes may be better or more necessary then others based upon health of your cooling system.
      I hope that helps.

    it's weird how you never replace the coolant reservoir

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      A few people have asked that question.
      A. I was following the instructions that were listed on the bottle.
      B. The coolant reservoir needs to be pumped out or fully removed to be emptied.
      C. Since the coolant was about the same color and free of any particulates, I decided to skip emptying the coolant in the reservoir which was only about 12oz.

    How do I know if I did the flush correctly? Great video!

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your car won't over heat.
      If it does, let it cool down and top off the radiator once more with coolant. Some air pockets could have worked there way out of the system. Also make sure the drain plug is not leaking.
      If your old fluid or the distilled water come out roughly the same color your car is ok. If there is a noticeable discoloration, particles or sludge while draining the old fluid or distilled water you might want to see a mechanic because there may be a bigger issue at hand.

    I am wanting to flush my 2017 honda fit at 75000 miles has not been flushed. I saw somehwere that the maintenence minder needs to be reset afterwards since it has not yet alerted that the coolant needs to be changed. Is there a simpler way to do that with my phone rather than having to buy the specific electrical equipments to access the diagnostics?
    Thanks to your videos I have changed the oil, the manual transmission fluid and brake fluids. Your work is greatly appreciated. Since changing my transmission fluid and brake fluid would I need to reset the maintenence minder as well?

      Hi there,
      There is no maintenance reminder for the brake fluid or the coolant changes. Just the Oil.
      Make sure to write down the mileage when you changed each fluid so you'll know when to change them again.

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If your old radiator fluid looks about the same in color, then you can just use DISTILLED WATER.
      It is important to use distilled water. Regular water contains calcium and other minerals that can collect and build up over time.
      If your radiator fluid is discolored or has lots of particulates in it when you drain it, then you should use some type of radiator cleaner during the flush process.

    • @HondaFit4Adventure
      @HondaFit4Adventure  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This flush was performed somewhere between 60-70k miles and the fluid still appeared to be in good condition. I would definitely check the color your radiator fluid.
      "Typically, you should have your Honda Fit coolant flush completed every 30,000 miles or every two years. There are some instances where your vehicle can go without a flush for a longer period of time." HONDA
      My car is at 102k roughly 45k miles from the previous flush and it definitely needs it.

    I noticed you have a cold air intake on your fit. Did you install it yourself? If so did you have to flush your coolant/cooling system after doing so? I just did my cold air intake myself, since I had some coolant leak out from removing air intake valve and coolant line I loss some fluid. I ran into some overheating issue and I'm thinking it could be because of that and now I have air in my radiator coolant/cooling system? Would really appreciate some feedback!

      - Every Coolant Flush has different instructions and some flushes may take longer then others.
      - You could get away with a drain and fill, as long as your coolant looks about the same.
      - I would also recommend draining it through a coffee filter. If you collect any particulates, then definitely do a complete flush.

      The app is called "Torque" or "Torque App"
      You will need a BlueToothOBD2 device to use the app. amzn.to/3U2y5SW
      The FREE version is all you really need. You can select the engine conditions that you wish to monitor and be able to read most engine codes.
