    Thank you for sharing your maintenance tips on a 2007 Honda fit. I own the same car and year with 17800km purchased it new drive around 1000km a year.

    Sheesh that cabin filter is easy on the Fit, on my parents 02 Accord there's a convenient dash structure in the way! It's due for a coolant flush along with brake fluid, been a while since it's seen any love being the family car.

      Yea some older Honda's like the crv have that metal bracket to be removed to take out the cabin filter. Just a suggestion for when doing brake fluid especially on the older Honda that I find happens. Try using vacuum style bleeder. If it's an original master going the full stroke of the brake pedal may ruin those cup seals and cause a sinking pedal when slowly depressing the brake pedal when driving. Did it on my 1992 civic si hatchback.

    So if you're just draining the rad via the petcock, are you actually getting any of the coolant out of the block? Seems like a quick drain and flush is only replacing half of it.

      Yea you will never get 100% of it out by just draining it. Or can try a second drain and fill after a nice long drive. But that's just diluting old coolant with new coolant.

    If you own a Honda fit, make sure you put a cage around your catalytic converter. Mine was stolen. $850.00 for the repair. Good luck.

      Sorry to hear that. We get a lot of CRV, and elements that get there cats stolen, they are magnets for thieves.

    After the new coolant has been added and engine started, how long do you keep the engine running? What should I look for to know the replacement coolant is done? Also, is there a coolant reservoir? If so, do we do anything with the coolant reservoir?

      The reservoir is right by the drivers side headlight area it can just come out by pulling up on the reservoir. You can run it until the radiator fans come on without the a/c on.

      @@theoffroadingmechanic I noticed you didn't empty the old and dirty coolant held in the reservoir. Shouldn't that be replaced as well? Also, after reading a Honda service manual, the manual also mentions removing a drain bolt located on the front side of the engine block. Drain the fluid then replace this drain bolt with a new washer and tighten it to 58 ft-lbs torque. The Honda part number for the Sealing Washer is 90401PR4000.

    So if I buy coolant that’s already diluted and says “do not add water” I can just use the coolant for both the radiator and coolant reservoir?

      Yea cuz it's already premixed for the right freezing and boiling point depending if your vehicle needs a 50/50 mix or 40/60. Or if you wanted to do it yourself and mix concentrate and distilled water to get the correct boiling and freezing point of coolant.

    I take my 95 Civic with 210K miles that I take to dealer for oil change. I am guessing they put in synthetic oil since modern Honda requires it and dealer use bulk oil. My 95 Civic doesn't require synthetic according to manual but I'm guessing modern oil won't hurt it or my benefit?

      We keep a barrel of 5w30 syn just for the older cars and the bottled 10w30 Honda oil.

    How hard would it be to drain the radiator if I don't jack the car up? Thanks. I have a 3000 lb jack but not sure if that's good enough to lift the entire front. Also, did you have to run the heater when you started the car? Was there a conclusion on one bottle of coolant being enough? Sorry with all the questions. Was getting ready to do this to my Honda Fit this weekend.

      If you are able to get a drain pan under without having to lift it should be ok the drain is pretty easily accessible. One jug of coolant should be enough but have extra wouldn't hurt if down the road you need to top up. The fit doesn't have the valve to allow flow to the heater core like some Honda's do but I usually just turn it to max heat with the fan off.

    7:30 Risky maneuver! If I don't move the drain pan out of the way there is a 95% chance of me dropping the plug into the oil! :(
