    The worst part about this whole scene for me isn't even the death or terror, but that JJ wasn't even interested in eating or digesting them. The raining blood scene that follows shows that this isn't part of its natural process of digestion. JJ had the decoy horse lodged in its digestive tract, and it needed to get it out. One horse wasn't going to do it (and arguably it's spooked at this point that any horse could be another decoy), so it sucks up every living thing that's not a horse, and lets them all dissolve to lubricate its digestive tract and dislodge the decoy. These people weren't food; they were an enema.

    A small choice that really contributed to the horror for me was that cut to black at 1:48. When the film cut away from Steven Yeun's face, I assumed something terrible just happened to the people at the Star Lasso Experience, and Jordan Peele was gonna simply let us infer their terrible fate. But then, the film jumps to the visuals of the creature's insides, and we see something so despair-inducing that I almost walked out of the theater. That cut to black gave us the false hope that we were done with the worst this movie had to offer, so it hits so much harder when a few seconds later, Peele tells us, "no, I've got a bit more to show you." I also noticed a similar cut to black in the Gordy's Home scene, which I think supports the connections Peele wants us to draw between the chimpanzee and the UFO.

      However, this scene is downright horrifying because it encapsulates three of the primordial fears of all living beings, that even you have: the fear of the unknown, the fear of being prey to a predator, and the fear of being eaten.
      Even in the absence of UFOs, it is the image of being subjected to the whims of nature that invokes a chilling terror within us. Being eaten by a predator is something that also happens in real life, it is part of the cycle of life, since for the predator the prey is just food, but for the prey the predator is it's brutal and gruesome end.
      It's not strange it scares people, both animals/predators in nature and humans are something that can harm and kill others in gruesome ways for survival. Something like this would scare us all, not just with the UFO, it could happen with any animal that is a predator. The difference is that you can't dialogue or stop a predator that overpowers you from harming you, unlike with other humans.
      Indeed, since you seem to take such a liking to discussing humans and history, why don't you conduct some research on instances of animals fatally attacking and eating people, and imagine how YOU would feel in that situation? Because that has also happened since the beginning of time all over history, and it's horrifying to be in that position.

    We’ve all seen movies where people are eaten by some large creature. But this?.... This tops all of them. The horror that not only one, but FOURTY people being swallowed and digested, screaming out in agony and terror by something outside of this world.. What a brilliantly horrific scene. Easily one of the most, if not THE most disturbing scene in a movie I’ve ever seen.

    The worst thing about this scene is Mary Jo Elliott. She barely survived an encounter with an unhinged animal the first time but now it's her doom. And it honestly all stems from Ricky "Jupe's" inability to process the trauma. It's really peculiar to me how Jupe extrapolated that from his traumatic experience with Gordy. Hell, even that fatal gunshot got Gordy's brains on him. He's still dazed in stress before The Star Lasso Experience. His expression before he's sucked up says it all. I love how when people are screaming as Jean Jacket approaches them, Jupe is just staring at him. You could say it's shock or awe, but maybe its also hope or delusion that he'd control the beast or that it'd see him as a friend. His experience with Gordy made him believe that he can tame beasts through a special connection, like he's some chosen one. In contrast to OJ who knows that while beasts need to be respected and you can tame them, they are still unpredictable and needed to be approached with calculated precaution.

    The progression of screams is horrifying, it gets more dehumanizing as it goes on. The final wail of agony heard is indistinguishable from an animal. We as humans have been accustomed to a certain degree of control in our lives (in many cases even the way we die), what these poor characters experience is traumatic to a primal degree. Absolutely no control, unavoidable and long death… judging by the amount of time the wails are heard, and so little human these sounds appear, I could only imagine if one of the people digested were to be saved, they would be indescribably mentally broken.
    That final wail of horror represents all that for me, the loss of humanity and the acceptance of absolute horror. Jordan Peele is a master for this.

    Outside from being eaten alive and the realization of it, all these people woke up on this day and probably didn’t have a seconds thought of not living to see tomorrow. That alone scares me, tomorrow is not a guarantee and this scene is Visual representation of that.

    Man this is really a fascinatingly disturbing scene. So chilling how the creature consumes its prey alive and essentially hangs on to them for some time.
    And considering how big Jean Jacket is it needs to eat A LOT.

    • @lonestarwolfentertainment7184
      @lonestarwolfentertainment7184 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah realistically speaking a creature as big as Jean Jacket wouldn’t even consider Humans a possible food source anymore than Humans consider Ants a food source, could it survive off of Humans? Yeah in the same way we could survive off of Ants but it would need to eat A LOT of them and really all the energy it spends gathering up enough Humans would be better spent searching for something larger and more filling to eat (which now that I think about it aside from some Sea Creatures there really isn’t anything on earth that’s big enough to Sustain a Creature of this size).

    I see A connection between the monkey and Jean Jacket. We see the Monkey on set destroying people and playing with their bodies almost in creepy predator way. Then we see JJ holding on to these victims for the entire day while their screaming in pain and fear just riding around with them till night time comes and then after JJ is done playing with them it finally kills them. Not just kills them but does it over the house with the people in it that JJ deems as a threat, as if to intimidate. For sure a scene I will never forget.

      I dont think theres anything playful or deliberate playfulness/sadism going on, the APE got sent into fight or flight mode. It simply went back into its violent instinct, it didnt slowly pull out finger nails while laughing. It eliminated what it saw as threats, like an animal and woldnt be the first time for chimps.
      JJ is an alien so we cant really know for sure obviously, but clear parralels are made that its just an animal doing animal things.
      I thinks its more so its way of feeding takes a long while, its not showing off or reveling in the fear of the people. Its simply moving around while its metabolism is doing its thing.

      With Gordy, I think it’s reflecting the confusion of instincts between a creature trained to be friendly that’s reacting violently out of fear and confusion. It’s a kind of dominance behavior that’s instinctual rather than malicious, and I think that’s the mirror with JJ. It doesn’t assign moral value to its own behavior. It may experience certain emotions, but it’s not rationalizing through them. It’s an animal reacting with instinctual behaviors toward perceived threat in its territory. Jupe’s mistake was thinking he wasn’t dealing with the latter.

    • @NoBody-hw6se
      @NoBody-hw6se ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It probably isn't playing with them, it simply takes it a lengthy period of time to digest. That makes it worse to me -- it isn't malicious, it's an animal, it's just eating.

    Such a brilliant scene. And it goes into that theme of spectacle perfectly! The first thing a lot of the people do when they see it is being out their phones, the slight smile on Jupe’s face before the camera cuts away, the indescribable appearance of the inside of Jean Jacket, the claustrophobic intensity of the throat, the screams of the victims, just perfect horror

    • @Shanethefilmmaker

      It scared people, because it showed something that could very likely happen. Whereas Jean Jacket, even with the allegory in place, is not real and ergo, being in a situation where you're basically being trapped inside a giant fly trap seems silly to people sometimes. At least until a similar event happens in real life.

    Three notes about this:
    1. It’s crazy that Asian dude survived that incident as a child and didn’t learn from it and decided a second time to contribute to making a spectacle of an unpredictable animal.
    2. It’s sad as f*** that the little girl who survived the Gordy incident actually wears a T Shirt with a picture of what she used to look like.
    3. Watching people being ingested knowing it’s their end might be the most uncomfortable movie scene in history.

      I think it's because he disassociated on the balancing shoe, he also saw how the world reacted, referencing the whole bit on the SNL episode made mocking those events. It probably twisted his thinking into believing that all anyone cared about was the recurring theme of "the spectacle", so rather than learning his lesson, "spectacle" became his identity.
