I can't help but view him as sort of adorable, he's so old, always angry and so detached from reality you just kind of feel bad for him. In Morrowind he was a completely evil bastard, kidnapping daughters and whatnot, but in dragonborn he just seems lost.
It’s makes sense though, Mora’s whole sphere is knowledge, so if there’s something he doesn’t know, it may as well be a 3 step guide to CHIM because he will do anything to get it.
His apprentice is also hilarious. I'm pretty sure most young adults can relate to him at some point in their life too lol (aka what am I doing here, I'd be better off, learning on my own without being pushed around, pls send help)

Dragonborn: I've defeated miraak. Neloth: Who? Neloth is easily one of my favourite characters. He may be arrogant but he's funny as hell. He made you a member of his house, which may not mean much currently, but it does mean he does extremely value the player, even though he'll never admit it. He is so interesting compared to most of the rather black & white npcs found in Skyrim. I always wanted him to be a follower, mainly because I imagine that his dialogue would be funny. & even talvas his apprentice has his moments where he's funny, "master neloth says a dragon is no match for a talvannoi wizard, but what about a mere apprentice?" Saying that in a squeaky voice was adorable too. Neloth & Cicero are the best characters in Skyrim, because they are both so interesting. But why do I feel like neloth would want to study Cicero because of his madness?
When you go and get back from the dwarven ruins it feels like you are walking with a pal. It feels like you are actually on par with him, rather than being the one and only hero that everyone follows from behind.
I never thought about it But you're 100% right. Normally all the other followers are just there to carry extra stuff, you don't actually need them in fights. But being with Neloth for the brief quest was like finally traveling with an equal. I think the only other npcs to make me feel slightly like that, was Cicero & marciro. Damn they really should have made Neloth a follower.
What I also like is when you're with him at Nchardak to get the black book, he'll tell you history of the ancient Dwemer while walking through the ruins, like a tour guide / professor. Explaining fascinating lore to the Dragonborn without having to ask was something I thought was neat, that he values passing on knowledge to others just as much as values gaining knowledge himself.
@Juggled Lotus Maybe Nerveranine saved the Dunmer, but the 'Nobody Dragonborn' saved the entire Tamriel from a world eating dragon, sun swallowing dracula and mind bending Dragonborn!! He/She deserves Respect.

Other points with Neloth, he's very "respectful" to you regardless of race, Argonian, Dunmer, whatever you're all the same to him. Also giving you a title, if I remember correctly, its been a few years since I played Skyrim. He also doesn't give a DAMN if you're dragonborn or a hero, he just wants his canis root tea!
And all that is useless when someone simply says "no". Whatz he gana do? Throw a magical tantrum like a bitch? If only other people in his world had a spine XD.

another thing: Talvas Fathryon is a master conjurer he can teach you conjuration up to 90 (while the teacher in the mage college can only do so up to 75) he is a better summoner and soul magic expert than the actual teacher of the college but he is only *Neloth apprentice* an idle dialogue between the two have talvas begging neloth to teach him a new summon spell; meaning that neloth is a superior summoner than a master conjurer; despite summoning magic not even being his main speciality
And Neloth is nowhere close to the power of Divayth Fyr. You know, the 4000 year old dude who challanges thieves to take his hoard of artifacts for sport and has female clones of himself as both daughters and wives.
@Y B Indeed, Divayth Fyr has quite the ladies, has a living Dwemer and is the only one who could develop a treatment for Corpus. Neloth is still pretty chad, but barely speaks to you in Morrowind; preferring to be left alone. We kind of interact more with him in Dragonborn DLC than we ever do in Morrowind, so they changed his behavior.

Like how Hermaeus Mora's Seekers tend to read in Books sometimes if they aren't actively looking for you. I also tried to come up with an explanation for all the Weirdness in Labyrinthion.
Neloth has also some very subtle character growth throughout your encounters with him. It's done so well that he went from a character I initially detested, to one of my favourites, simply because he grows gradually as you interact with him more, without losing what makes him... Neloth.
One of my favourite lines from him is a sort of inverse backhanded compliment. It sounds like an insult at first but then you realize he actually hid some praise under it. “Oh. Were you fishing for a compliment? A sign of gratitude? Don't waste your time. Those things are for the weak and foolish."

Ikr, he has all the reason to be too. He is one of the most knowledgeable and powerful mages in his time with over 500 years of experience. I can't wait to see what he's studying next in TES6, i actually hope it has something to do with the main story because neloth is just too important damnit
Fyr is the greatest character in all of Elder Scrolls. He wears full Daedric Armor despite being a wizard. He joined the most dedicated mage society in Vvardenfell so they'd stop bothering him. He couldn't be bothered to talk to vapid Telvani broads, so he cloned a harem of himself. He keeps the last living Dwemer firmly tucked away in his basement, because to Fyr, that bloated spider is the rarest artifact he could find. He also cured your aids. God bless Kirkbride.

there is LORE then there is GAME MECHANICS... learn the difference.. if they made elderscrolls into an anime/show etc... i highly doubt it would be limited to a game engine... there is no way in hell winterhold has 6ish people living in 3 buildings... living in rubble with no attempt to rebuild some buildings... knowing damn well they are still fucking and reproducing... eating and working... the winterhold in game.. cause of game machines does not reflect how it would actually be... it the lore was made into a film... winter hold and the college would be much larger and far more populated... in fact.. all the "CITIES" are cities... u cant actually believe all the cities have about 20ish npcs... and a few gaurds.. yet have armies that are probably well over 1000 in each city... summary.. for the sake of ur game being able to run it does not reflect lore... the same why ur shouts as DB dont actually destroy cities.. hence why some there are mods.. more immersive lore friendly ones.. that make the cities much fuller and the appearance of being larger.. butt even this can be a work horse for our systems... and yet still.. i highly doubt these mods would reflect the sheer size and population in terms of lore that these cities would be... so ur problem is ur mixing lore with limited mechanics of the game/engine... again look at Solitude for example... u really think it would have the small population it has.. and u think the city would actually be that small.. only big enough to house 5 or 6 different families... no.. u'd have hundreds if not thousands of people living there... consider HISTORY.. real history... average cities had a modest population of 10,000 - 80,000... there is no way in hell skyrim lore reflects whats in game due to the limited engine...
@@InanisNihil Even if we delved into the lore I don't think the college that we see in the 4th era would have more than a few dozen to maybe a hundred or so students studying there, the city of Winterhold sits in ruins and is a shadow of it's former self, the townspeople often comment about it's current state, if the college was doing well the town of Winterhold by extension would be doing well, students from the college would likely venture out to drink at the inn and trade with the local townsfolk, people from across Skyrim would seek out the mages at the college for enchanting services, which although they still do to an extent I doubt many adventurers require (or afford) much more than what their local wizard could do for them students from across Tamriel would likely travel to Winterhold to study bringing with them gold to pour into Winterhold's economy. But the days of glory for the college are long gone, the oresrige it once had is gone, the people of Skyrim are distrustful and even fearful of magic and those that live around the college even more so, the college likely only exists today as it is the best many people in Skyrim can do without traveling abroad and other mages from across Tamriel likely only visit if they believe the college posses rare tomes of knowledge or other answers they might need.To me it seems most logical that most provinces of Tamriel likely have local mages guilds where wizards gather.

Gotta go with Fyr. Daedric armour, artifacts aplenty, last living dwarf to learn from, a modified version of Corprus, female sex/maid clones, et cetera. In terms of spellcasting I honestly don't know, Neloth seems a better enchanter, and researches the Daedra cautiously, but Fyr looks deeper into the mechanics of magic and reality, spurning the power of Daedra for the most part.
That's actually a good one considering neloth is definitely one of the most powerful wizards outside the psijic order. Shit hes probably stronger than most of them tbh. Fyr is a beast tho
I'll never forget meeting Divayth Fyr in his tower and seeing what a full set of Daedric armor looks like. Back when Daedric armor was super rare and the game didn't hand it out to you like Oblivion and Skyrim did. Daedric armor was more special and anyone caught wearing it was sure to be someone really powerful.

Considering that most Telvanni master mages are ageless, I imagine at 500 Neloth is actually quite young. That doesn't demean his power by any means, the age factor just might not be that impressive by comparison to some like Divayth Fyr who is or was 4000

I honestly *love* Morrowind's Telvanni. They definitely had the best lore along with the Ashlander tribes - Some of the most creative and thought-out mythology ever devised for a video game, really
Dude, Neloth is easily the most interesting character in Skyrim S.E. He really is a walking paradox. I'd normally would hate the guy given everything I've read about the great wizard slavers but . . . when I interact with Neloth it is clear that he has a favorable veiw of power but he also show that he wouldn't abuse his power. And he doesn't strike me as so arrogant that he underestimate someone he can learn from them if they are better than him at something. Which to me shows that he is at least as wise as he is intelligent which those two qualities don't always come together . . . unless you are an idiot and can't distinguish the difference between wisdom and intellect. It would be interesting to see if he appears in the next game. I think he would be wise enough to not infuse a heartstone in himself. Because that power would be his end (evidenced by the writings of his former apprentice and everything he would have learned about the briarhearts). Then again he may be smarter than wise. It would be interesting to add him to my soul gem collection. Though I hope they don't go that route . . . because I rather like the guy.
Neloth, Mannimarco and Solas "in Dragon age" are the reasons I adore magic so much and usually end up being a mage in most of my playthroughs in fantasy games that give us this option.
I take it that means you've played Oblivion and Skyrim? Honestly if you like those characters then (As I'm sure many have told you) you'd love Divayth Fyr, before you ask... No it's probably not worthing getting into Morrowind just for that. But it's definately worth a read on the wiki!
If memory serves, the Telvanni would use Necromancy to reverse or slow aging. And if I remember correctly, Neloth and Divayth were somewhat on friendly terms, a rarity in itself among the Telvanni. It may be that Neloth has a modified Corprus strain from Divayth, giving him everlasting agelessnes in addition to the previously mentioned necromancy.
Mmmm back in Morrowind he was a Telvanni Master. And not a slouch in their circle, in fact he was the head of the Telvanni council and presided over the largest Telvanni City. And even then I think he was like the 2-3rd oldest? 3rd if you count Divayth Fyr who was an unofficial member of the council. While I doubt Neloth could hope to Match Fyr, maybe given the same 3000 year life-span he could. (And I've not a doubt in my mind that he can survive that long)
@@tysej4 Sidrith Mora isnt the largest telvanni city, it is the largest telvanni city in morrowind. The largest telvanni city is the capital on the main land; Port Telvannis.
tysej4 i always assumed that there were far more powerful mages than neloth on the mainland, since vvardenfell is the frontier of House Telvanni and they aren’t very established there.
Well considering how well other magic using NPCs beat down Dragons Neloth taking one on is not too impressive on its own, though his is more a lore feat than broken Skyrim mechanics feat remember Dragons can't speak if you hit them with lightning.

Meh, fine, whatever.” When you first approach him, his first dialogue is typically “Whatever it is, the answer is no.” This personality is brilliantly reflected in Skyrim, I believe. Septimus himself tells you that it was the scrolls who drove him mad. 'Some, like the moth priest, have it damage their sight, while others like Septimus have it damage the mind. I think Hermaeus Mora took advantage of Septimus in this vulnerable state.
I wonder if it may have something to do with the way we interact with him in tes Morrowind. The only way, for the most players, to get his attention is paying him to do so and that's all, so it looks like he simply likes that money (at least more than what he was doing at the moment and fairness of judgement). So maybe the Devs have decided to make it kind of an Easter egg, that he's a miser.

I wonder if Neloth could of taken on Miraak in a straight up fight... I know he wouldn't be able to beat the last dragonborn but I personally do think he could of taken out miraak if he really wanted to but just simply didn't think it was his problem.

In case no one knew, Neloth is voiced by Dwight Schultz. If you've ever seen Chowder or The A Team (yes, the fucking original A Team), he voices Mong in Chowder and plays Howlin Mad Murdock. I knew that was his voice the first time playing Dragonborn. Made me so happy as I love his roles 100% of the time
He gathered one Black Book just by himself so that makes him pretty darn impressive in my opinion. Just because he didn't get obeyed by Hermaeus Mora at all. But we all know those books can make even the clearest minded soul go completely insane because of that Daedric Octopus. So that leaves me with the fact that Neloth is a fucking genius who didn't fall for twisted promises, offered by the Deadric Prince himself.
I liked the video, but would like to add in some feedback/counter theories: First, Neloth is definitely far older than 500 years old. He was a highly respected and well-feared Magister of House Telvanni, so he was not a youngster back then. The average lifespan of a Dunmer is estimated to be around 800-900 years, only 100 years short of the Altmer 900-1000 years. Being a Magister at merely a hundred years or so would be equivalent to a human making a 18 year old President or Prime-Minister of a country the size of Germany or the United Kingdom. Also, there is lore available that speaks of a magical means that is extremely difficult to pull off, but would allow the user to enlongate their life. The Telvanni would readily teach this to people they think might have a chance of pulling it off. The reason for this being: A) if they fail they kill themselves, B) if they succeed they are good enough to be part of the House. So Neloth looking any age means nothing. You claim that Neloth moved to Solstheim to study the Heartstones, but they only became a thing 'long' after the eruption of Vvardenfell, which pretty much destroyed the island-half of Morrowind, causing Neloth to be in need of a new place to call home. And, because shortly after the Oblivion Crisis the Argonians invaded and conquered swaths of Morrowind and were hunting down the main slavers of the Dunmer (House Dren and House Telvanni), mainland Morrowind was not wise for a Telvanni Magister to use. Solstheim was also not an ash-covered island before the eruption, so Neloth would not have moved there for the ash before the eruption. It is most logical that he discovered the Ashspawn once there and decided to learn more about the Heartstones so he could deal with the unrelenting and highly corrosive ash, which, to this day, threatens the bulwark of Raven Rock. Lastly, wouldn't Dyvath Fyr be far more likely to be the most powerful wizard to have ever lived? That man has been part of history for at least 4000 years, most likely seeing him part of the Exodus of Saint Veloth. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
I thought that it'd be pretty cool of they placed Neloth in ES:6 as well. However if they do, I think there's a high likelihood that he may be a villain. I can see him mastering heartstone implantation but ultimately suffering insanity as a result. Note that anyone who taps into Lorkhan's power is inevitably driven mad. Almalexia went insane , Sotha Sil became maddeningly obsessed with technology, Dagoth Ur dreamed that he was the dreamer (the ultimate god of ES) and became "the Mad God", the Dagoth clan became insane ash vampires, General Falx Carius went insane when revived and Ildari went schizophrenic after her implantation. Vivec is the only person who didn't become (completely) insane, but that's probably because he achieved CHIM. However if you look into his past, some things he did were clearly insane. Afterall, the result of one of those actions lead to The Red Year for the dunmer. Remember that all of these people started with good intentions or were good people before being exposed to the power. For some, it slowly drove them mad and for others, it was almost immediate. I see Neloth successfully implanting himself with this power (somehow), but after a few decades or centuries (depending on when ES:6 takes place) he will be driven insane and become a tragic villain as well - a victim of a god's power and his own genius. Becoming another example of why mortals cannot handle the power and knowledge of gods, as Azura had warned the Tribual, thousands of years prior. Or he won't and will just be even more arrogant in his funny kind of way.
Funny thing about neloth.. remember when he asks if you need all your toes... he is in fact attempting to recreate fyrs experiment of creating female clones like how fyr did.. using your dragonborn flesh as the material, but you arent moldy enough... remember that fyr used his female clones as his personal harem of concubines and harem... neloth wants a db harem confirmed!
After clearing the dwarven ruins I wanted to collect the devices the started the boilers. The boilers that filled the room with the black book so Neloth get the book. Well because I took the devices there wasn't any steam when we entered into the room. I felt so embarrassed I ran back to the elevator and just before it started to load I heard Neloth yell out did you take those devices. Lol. I love him.
I hope he is a recurring character, maybe we can actually see him eventually become divinity? Not intentionally because he does it for knowledge but what if he becomes so powerful that he becomes God like? Idk..be kinda cool I think
I highly doubt Neloth will appear in ES6 mostly due the fact the chances of it taking place in Morrowind are slim to none and I doubt that he'll ever leave Morrowind considering he's such an important member of the Great House Telvanni. But then again this is Bethesda we're talking about so you never know
Master Neloth also says if you ask him about Morrowind that he's never been to mainland Morrowind, meaning for 500+ years he's stayed in Vvardenfell and Solstheim, so he's probably not one who likes to travel much.
Neloth is the best written character in Skyrim. Yet it is because he is originated in another. That speaks volumes to how much better the writing was in the earier game. I like this condescending narcissistic asshole. He is like most characters in Skyrim whom constantly do the same to the player. In his case it actually makes sense because he just doesn't care. The other npcs don't care but only because Skyrim has a staic world. It is why you never get fame or infamy. A feature of the earlier games that Skyrim needlessly removed.
Yay it’s a random incontere you find a neromancer expirimenting with chicken body’s worshipping a shrin to some kind of chicken god. If he see you he’ll attack with zombie chickens that have one hp and do like no damage
I genuinely find neloth to be pleasant. Yes hes extremely arrogant, but he has the skills to back his arrogance and compared to most others npcs in Skyrim, he is also pretty helpful and explains things genuinely as you explore nunchadak together without attacking your intelligence. Savos aren hinted at wizards being able to live for several times the natural lifespan of their species, so considering how powerful, smart and skilled neloth is, I'm confident he will live for many thousands of years to come and could possibly survive into the next kalpa.
I think what makes neloth work so well is that he's not like most of the arrogant characters you meet throughout Skyrim. While they are incompetent and insufferable buffoons, he's a genius and I'd argue very respectful to the player character, showing that he's not just a bastard tyrant without the faintest idea of what he's actually doing but instead someone who is truly a master wizard

Neloth is easily one of my favourite characters. He may be arrogant but he's funny as hell.
He made you a member of his house, which may not mean much currently, but it does mean he does extremely value the player, even though he'll never admit it.
He is so interesting compared to most of the rather black & white npcs found in Skyrim.
I always wanted him to be a follower, mainly because I imagine that his dialogue would be funny.
& even talvas his apprentice has his moments where he's funny, "master neloth says a dragon is no match for a talvannoi wizard, but what about a mere apprentice?" Saying that in a squeaky voice was adorable too.
Neloth & Cicero are the best characters in Skyrim, because they are both so interesting.
But why do I feel like neloth would want to study Cicero because of his madness?
When you go and get back from the dwarven ruins it feels like you are walking with a pal. It feels like you are actually on par with him, rather than being the one and only hero that everyone follows from behind.
I never thought about it But you're 100% right. Normally all the other followers are just there to carry extra stuff, you don't actually need them in fights.
But being with Neloth for the brief quest was like finally traveling with an equal.
I think the only other npcs to make me feel slightly like that, was Cicero & marciro.

What I also like is when you're with him at Nchardak to get the black book, he'll tell you history of the ancient Dwemer while walking through the ruins, like a tour guide / professor. Explaining fascinating lore to the Dragonborn without having to ask was something I thought was neat, that he values passing on knowledge to others just as much as values gaining knowledge himself.

Neloth is still pretty chad, but barely speaks to you in Morrowind; preferring to be left alone. We kind of interact more with him in Dragonborn DLC than we ever do in Morrowind, so they changed his behavior.

Fyr is the greatest character in all of Elder Scrolls. He wears full Daedric Armor despite being a wizard. He joined the most dedicated mage society in Vvardenfell so they'd stop bothering him. He couldn't be bothered to talk to vapid Telvani broads, so he cloned a harem of himself. He keeps the last living Dwemer firmly tucked away in his basement, because to Fyr, that bloated spider is the rarest artifact he could find. He also cured your aids. God bless Kirkbride.

It’s a brilliant game, if you have an Xbox One, you can get the full edition backwards compatible, it’s enhanced on One X. Or just get it on PC, you don’t need a god like PC to run it.

it the lore was made into a film... winter hold and the college would be much larger and far more populated...
in fact.. all the "CITIES" are cities... u cant actually believe all the cities have about 20ish npcs... and a few gaurds.. yet have armies that are probably well over 1000 in each city...
summary.. for the sake of ur game being able to run it does not reflect lore...
the same why ur shouts as DB dont actually destroy cities..
hence why some there are mods.. more immersive lore friendly ones.. that make the cities much fuller and the appearance of being larger.. butt even this can be a work horse for our systems... and yet still.. i highly doubt these mods would reflect the sheer size and population in terms of lore that these cities would be...
so ur problem is ur mixing lore with limited mechanics of the game/engine...
again look at Solitude for example... u really think it would have the small population it has.. and u think the city would actually be that small.. only big enough to house 5 or 6 different families...

consider HISTORY.. real history... average cities had a modest population of 10,000 - 80,000...

@@InanisNihil Even if we delved into the lore I don't think the college that we see in the 4th era would have more than a few dozen to maybe a hundred or so students studying there, the city of Winterhold sits in ruins and is a shadow of it's former self, the townspeople often comment about it's current state, if the college was doing well the town of Winterhold by extension would be doing well, students from the college would likely venture out to drink at the inn and trade with the local townsfolk, people from across Skyrim would seek out the mages at the college for enchanting services, which although they still do to an extent I doubt many adventurers require (or afford) much more than what their local wizard could do for them students from across Tamriel would likely travel to Winterhold to study bringing with them gold to pour into Winterhold's economy. But the days of glory for the college are long gone, the oresrige it once had is gone, the people of Skyrim are distrustful and even fearful of magic and those that live around the college even more so, the college likely only exists today as it is the best many people in Skyrim can do without traveling abroad and other mages from across Tamriel likely only visit if they believe the college posses rare tomes of knowledge or other answers they might need.To me it seems most logical that most provinces of Tamriel likely have local mages guilds where wizards gather.

Oddly enough despite his arrogant demeanor Master Neloth is one of only a handful of characters that actually shows The Player some respect.

Gotta go with Fyr. Daedric armour, artifacts aplenty, last living dwarf to learn from, a modified version of Corprus, female sex/maid clones, et cetera.
In terms of spellcasting I honestly don't know, Neloth seems a better enchanter, and researches the Daedra cautiously, but Fyr looks deeper into the mechanics of magic and reality, spurning the power of Daedra for the most part.
That's actually a good one considering neloth is definitely one of the most powerful wizards outside the psijic order. Shit hes probably stronger than most of them tbh. Fyr is a beast tho

I'll never forget meeting Divayth Fyr in his tower and seeing what a full set of Daedric armor looks like. Back when Daedric armor was super rare and the game didn't hand it out to you like Oblivion and Skyrim did. Daedric armor was more special and anyone caught wearing it was sure to be someone really powerful.

I think it's because he is (intentionally or unintentionally) comedic relief to the game's plot. In Morrowind you were building up into this epic prophecy how you were this incarnate of some hero of the Chimer people, and when you go and ask all the great house leaders to name you hortator; all of them honor it, but Neloth honors it by saying: "Hortator? War leader of House Telvanni? Is that necessary? Why doesn't anyone tell me about these things? So. Do you want the job? Are you qualified? Good. Then go ahead. I don't care. Be the Hortator. Now go away."
"Just go. Be the Hortator. Leave me alone."
It's rare in Skyrim when you actually feel like you're speaking with an equal. But with Neloth is feels like Nerivar's and Dyfeth Fyr's partnership.
Considering that most Telvanni master mages are ageless, I imagine at 500 Neloth is actually quite young. That doesn't demean his power by any means, the age factor just might not be that impressive by comparison to some like Divayth Fyr who is or was 4000

Dude, Neloth is easily the most interesting character in Skyrim S.E. He really is a walking paradox. I'd normally would hate the guy given everything I've read about the great wizard slavers but . . . when I interact with Neloth it is clear that he has a favorable veiw of power but he also show that he wouldn't abuse his power. And he doesn't strike me as so arrogant that he underestimate someone he can learn from them if they are better than him at something. Which to me shows that he is at least as wise as he is intelligent which those two qualities don't always come together . . . unless you are an idiot and can't distinguish the difference between wisdom and intellect.
It would be interesting to see if he appears in the next game. I think he would be wise enough to not infuse a heartstone in himself. Because that power would be his end (evidenced by the writings of his former apprentice and everything he would have learned about the briarhearts).
Then again he may be smarter than wise. It would be interesting to add him to my soul gem collection. Though I hope they don't go that route . . . because I rather like the guy.

Neloth, Mannimarco and Solas "in Dragon age" are the reasons I adore magic so much and usually end up being a mage in most of my playthroughs in fantasy games that give us this option.
I take it that means you've played Oblivion and Skyrim? Honestly if you like those characters then (As I'm sure many have told you) you'd love Divayth Fyr, before you ask... No it's probably not worthing getting into Morrowind just for that. But it's definately worth a read on the wiki!
If memory serves, the Telvanni would use Necromancy to reverse or slow aging. And if I remember correctly, Neloth and Divayth were somewhat on friendly terms, a rarity in itself among the Telvanni.
It may be that Neloth has a modified Corprus strain from Divayth, giving him everlasting agelessnes in addition to the previously mentioned necromancy.

And even then I think he was like the 2-3rd oldest? 3rd if you count Divayth Fyr who was an unofficial member of the council.
While I doubt Neloth could hope to Match Fyr, maybe given the same 3000 year life-span he could. (And I've not a doubt in my mind that he can survive that long)

Well considering how well other magic using NPCs beat down Dragons Neloth taking one on is not too impressive on its own, though his is more a lore feat than broken Skyrim mechanics feat remember Dragons can't speak if you hit them with lightning.

Lol in all seriousness, I’d like to point out that, though he gave his support to Nerevarine, it was more of a “oh, there’s danger or something? Meh, fine, whatever.” When you first approach him, his first dialogue is typically “Whatever it is, the answer is no.” This personality is brilliantly reflected in Skyrim, I believe.
Also, I think it’s a bit much to say he’s the most powerful wizard in Morrowind. Again, Davyth Fyr is a great contender.

Septimus himself tells you that it was the scrolls who drove him mad. 'Some, like the moth priest, have it damage their sight, while others like Septimus have it damage the mind. I think Hermaeus Mora took advantage of Septimus in this vulnerable state.

I wonder if it may have something to do with the way we interact with him in tes Morrowind. The only way, for the most players, to get his attention is paying him to do so and that's all, so it looks like he simply likes that money (at least more than what he was doing at the moment and fairness of judgement). So maybe the Devs have decided to make it kind of an Easter egg, that he's a miser.

In case no one knew, Neloth is voiced by Dwight Schultz. If you've ever seen Chowder or The A Team (yes, the fucking original A Team), he voices Mong in Chowder and plays Howlin Mad Murdock. I knew that was his voice the first time playing Dragonborn. Made me so happy as I love his roles 100% of the time
He gathered one Black Book just by himself so that makes him pretty darn impressive in my opinion. Just because he didn't get obeyed by Hermaeus Mora at all. But we all know those books can make even the clearest minded soul go completely insane because of that Daedric Octopus. So that leaves me with the fact that Neloth is a fucking genius who didn't fall for twisted promises, offered by the Deadric Prince himself.
Meanwhile, most Dragonborn characters end up reading all them with little regard to the risks as, from a gameplay standpoint, there is none. :P
I liked the video, but would like to add in some feedback/counter theories:
First, Neloth is definitely far older than 500 years old. He was a highly respected and well-feared Magister of House Telvanni, so he was not a youngster back then. The average lifespan of a Dunmer is estimated to be around 800-900 years, only 100 years short of the Altmer 900-1000 years. Being a Magister at merely a hundred years or so would be equivalent to a human making a 18 year old President or Prime-Minister of a country the size of Germany or the United Kingdom.
Also, there is lore available that speaks of a magical means that is extremely difficult to pull off, but would allow the user to enlongate their life. The Telvanni would readily teach this to people they think might have a chance of pulling it off. The reason for this being: A) if they fail they kill themselves, B) if they succeed they are good enough to be part of the House.
So Neloth looking any age means nothing.
You claim that Neloth moved to Solstheim to study the Heartstones, but they only became a thing 'long' after the eruption of Vvardenfell, which pretty much destroyed the island-half of Morrowind, causing Neloth to be in need of a new place to call home. And, because shortly after the Oblivion Crisis the Argonians invaded and conquered swaths of Morrowind and were hunting down the main slavers of the Dunmer (House Dren and House Telvanni), mainland Morrowind was not wise for a Telvanni Magister to use.
Solstheim was also not an ash-covered island before the eruption, so Neloth would not have moved there for the ash before the eruption. It is most logical that he discovered the Ashspawn once there and decided to learn more about the Heartstones so he could deal with the unrelenting and highly corrosive ash, which, to this day, threatens the bulwark of Raven Rock.
Lastly, wouldn't Dyvath Fyr be far more likely to be the most powerful wizard to have ever lived? That man has been part of history for at least 4000 years, most likely seeing him part of the Exodus of Saint Veloth.

However if they do, I think there's a high likelihood that he may be a villain.
I can see him mastering heartstone implantation but ultimately suffering insanity as a result. Note that anyone who taps into Lorkhan's power is inevitably driven mad. Almalexia went insane
, Sotha Sil became maddeningly obsessed with technology, Dagoth Ur dreamed that he was the dreamer (the ultimate god of ES) and became "the Mad God", the Dagoth clan became insane ash vampires, General Falx Carius went insane when revived and Ildari went schizophrenic after her implantation.
Vivec is the only person who didn't become (completely) insane, but that's probably because he achieved CHIM. However if you look into his past, some things he did were clearly insane.
Afterall, the result of one of those actions lead to The Red Year for the dunmer.
Remember that all of these people started with good intentions or were good people before being exposed to the power. For some, it slowly drove them mad and for others, it was almost immediate.
I see Neloth successfully implanting himself with this power (somehow), but after a few decades or centuries (depending on when ES:6 takes place) he will be driven insane and become a tragic villain as well - a victim of a god's power and his own genius.
Becoming another example of why mortals cannot handle the power and knowledge of gods, as Azura had warned the Tribual, thousands of years prior.
Or he won't and will just be even more arrogant in his funny kind of way.

Funny thing about neloth.. remember when he asks if you need all your toes... he is in fact attempting to recreate fyrs experiment of creating female clones like how fyr did.. using your dragonborn flesh as the material, but you arent moldy enough... remember that fyr used his female clones as his personal harem of concubines and harem... neloth wants a db harem confirmed!

After clearing the dwarven ruins I wanted to collect the devices the started the boilers. The boilers that filled the room with the black book so Neloth get the book. Well because I took the devices there wasn't any steam when we entered into the room. I felt so embarrassed I ran back to the elevator and just before it started to load I heard Neloth yell out did you take those devices. Lol. I love him.

I highly doubt Neloth will appear in ES6 mostly due the fact the chances of it taking place in Morrowind are slim to none and I doubt that he'll ever leave Morrowind considering he's such an important member of the Great House Telvanni. But then again this is Bethesda we're talking about so you never know
Master Neloth also says if you ask him about Morrowind that he's never been to mainland Morrowind, meaning for 500+ years he's stayed in Vvardenfell and Solstheim, so he's probably not one who likes to travel much.

My last playthrough, I walked into Neloth's Mushroom Tower as a Nord in the armor of an Imperial Ranger.
He made me a Telvanni Wizard.
Being voiced by Dwight Schultz also helps with the genius thing.
Neloth is the best written character in Skyrim. Yet it is because he is originated in another. That speaks volumes to how much better the writing was in the earier game. I like this condescending narcissistic asshole. He is like most characters in Skyrim whom constantly do the same to the player. In his case it actually makes sense because he just doesn't care. The other npcs don't care but only because Skyrim has a staic world. It is why you never get fame or infamy. A feature of the earlier games that Skyrim needlessly removed.

I genuinely find neloth to be pleasant. Yes hes extremely arrogant, but he has the skills to back his arrogance and compared to most others npcs in Skyrim, he is also pretty helpful and explains things genuinely as you explore nunchadak together without attacking your intelligence. Savos aren hinted at wizards being able to live for several times the natural lifespan of their species, so considering how powerful, smart and skilled neloth is, I'm confident he will live for many thousands of years to come and could possibly survive into the next kalpa.

I think what makes neloth work so well is that he's not like most of the arrogant characters you meet throughout Skyrim. While they are incompetent and insufferable buffoons, he's a genius and I'd argue very respectful to the player character, showing that he's not just a bastard tyrant without the faintest idea of what he's actually doing but instead someone who is truly a master wizard
