I have a cartridge filter and I usually clean it every month in the summer and every 2-3 months in the winter. How often you should backwash really depends on how much use your pool gets, if you use a skimmer sock and how much debris gets into your pool from trees, grass, etc.
I recommend trying my schedule in this video and see if it works for you. One of the biggest factors is how much debris gets in your pool on a daily basis. You'd need to run it at higher speeds for longer if you get a lot of dust, dirt, leaves, etc.
I have noticed that my skimmer suction is not strong enough and my pool is not as clean as it should be. What's your recommendation? I also have the Hayward pump setup.
Which model is that? Is that the 2603? That is what I just installed today and it is so quiet I’m not sure if I’m moving enough water. I have a Hayward sand filter so I don’t want to try and push to much through it since they can’t handle the amount of gal per minute as a cartridge filter. This is where I wish I had a flow meter. I’m on 1 1/2” piping on a 16x32 in ground and my pump is only 10 ft from the pool. Right now I’m using 2250, 1500 and 1100 for my 3 timers running 24hrs

Just purchased this pump. I have not hooked it up yet but thanks for sharing how to program it!
Very informative video thank you, how often do you back wash your sand filter(if you have one)?

Check out my channel, “Pool Care Share” and you will see a video on this topic (among 40 other pool care videos). Thank you for watching! 😀
I found it. Hold the left and right arrows and it unlocks. Locks automatically

Try cleaning your pump basket and cartridge filter. (I have videos on both of these procedures.)

Mine is Aquarite 900 series, AQR925. It is 2 years old. Your schedule sounds good to me!
Thanks! Must be doing ok since my salt cell is still generating at 1100rpm. I heard they can generate as low as 11-15 gpm.
Update Spring 2024: Due to pollen season, I started this summer schedule in March instead of May.

Any suggestions for a 20x40 schedule? Thanks. @@poolcareshare
What would you suggest on a 20x40 for pool compared to your schedule? Approx 33,000 gallons.
