I bought the ZV-1 after watching your video. I mostly use it to capture family memories. I'd really want a wider lens but I'm gonna skip the mark-2 due to no OIS. The original ZV-1 with OIS ON and Active SS OFF on Crane M2 gives me great footage.

This is my favourite type of camera for the same reason. I've been using the G7XII since it came out in like 1938. I just want the same but with audio input, dual pixel AF, and maybe 4K60.
I don't really need anything wider than 24mm, because I have gorilla arms. Arms so long I could slap tomorrow. 😂

Just a question thou... in ya video title, you mention “camcorder”. I have a Panasonic 4K camcorder but am curious to see if this would replace that camcorder/handycam. I mainly film stage shows and/or bands on stage. Do you think the ZV1 (either generation) could film a stage show, on a tripod, with a distance of say, 20 metres away from the front of the stage?.
There is hardly, if any, reviews on these cameras to be used as a camera to film a live stage show and if the ZV1 could replace a camcorder.
I have the zv1 and I love it. I like the wider, but I’m glad the IQ is the same.

haha yes why not call it the zv2 lol I've been using the zv1f so I could have a wider lens but I'll be upgrading for sure! I love that its 18mm with some zoom, Active Stable looks good and it has the built in ND filter (I mostly shoot outside in FL). I can't wait!

The size of the zv1 is perfect for me for vlogging. It fits in my pocket and it’s not this giant piece of gear in front of my face.
I have the zv1 with a small rig cage, am i still going to able to use it on the zv1m2?

As someone who would use this camera in the same way Omar does, family documenting, an odd feature that I didn't know I needed is you can take photos while you're recording video. I wish more cameras did this.
i could potentially sell you mine that’s still practically new 😅 it’s only been used as a webcam and being sorely underused now that i switched to using my phone as a webcam instead.

What they should have done is - IBIS... Lower megapixel count for low light... ( no one buys this for photo)
that way, even at 18mm with ibis you can actually be at 18mm and its not a *unusable* 18mm.

if vlogging is ones purpose and a person is kinda shy having big cameras then the dji osmo pocket is a great choice i think. they wont even noticed . lol
For family memories, I think we are at the point where smartphones are soo much easier and convenient. Take a picture and 5 seconds later you can send it to your mom or sister, brother or friend. Try that with a Zv 1 M2... If you look at the versus, you will see a smart phone that is higher end will be close enough now (other than extreme low light) that unless you do content creation this camera is really not worth it in my opinion. They should have an APSC sensor in a camera like this with better specs, and then you would have something much more capable... THANKS FOR THE VIDEO MAN!😊😊👍👍

I bought the ZV-1 on your recommendation and I like it so much. Like you, my usage is documenting my life, like I did with my old Sony handycam back in the day. I am also planning to use it for a talking head TH-cam channel. Although I’m tempted, I think there is no need to upgrade. For me. The wide lens and touch screen is nice, but I don’t see anything that would make me sell my ZV1 and go to the Z1 - Mk2. One question, do you notice any real upgrade or differences in video or sound quality? Because from the video here, they look and sound identical.

Like others, your review convinced me to get a zv-1. You are too soft on the mkii and you know it. Documenting family life means not having to waste time behind a computer fighting Catalyst. No ois and less aperture also means photo quality goes down. The mkii removed the fun out of the ZV-1 concept to appease the already fading vlogging crowd, who'll anyway either buy a phone, a DJI or full frame.

I really respect Sony for NOT participating at the "bigger, better, faster, more-challenge" for so many years! Ten years ago i bought the videocamera PXW-X70. 1 Inch 20 MP Sensor without 4K/UHD 50/60p or 10 Bit 4:2:2. Still the same. So i can still use my 10 year old camera without being ashamed. Same for the RX lineup. I think Sony produced simply too much of this 1" Sensors 😀!

Curious on your thoughts about this camera vs a GoPro. Obviously it zooms. Anything else dramatically better or worse?
One you can use in low light, the other u can throw it in the garbage
For vlogging get the Gopro! Have the price and super stab. I have videos on it if you like. Low light the Zv1 does better, but still not great. Not a whole lot better than todays smartphones honestly. If you want a real upgrade grab a zve 10 for 699 with a lens for 2-3 hundred dollars used for around the same price you would have a camera that is much more capable in low light, otherwise I would stick with the Gopro.

Totally my fault. I forgot to turn off "product showcase" mode, so the camera kept thinking my hands were a product.

4k 120 would’ve done it. But Sony really hasn’t updated the rx100 since the mark 5 smh

@@ChrisGower it would have compromises in order to be very compact. The nearest thing is the Canon G1X III - it's tiny, but that comes at the expense of a slower lens (but it's a great camera, if you don't need 4k or low light performance). A faster lens = a bigger lens, so you might as well buy a compact system. Currently the ZV-E10 is (I think) Sony's smallest APS-C offering, but the ZV1 MkI has better features. I don't know what they were thinking with the ZV1 MkII - I wouldn't touch it.
@@lindsaydobson So funny, i didn't even realise there was a APS-C version of ZV! Thought it was just this and the full frame one, such is the confusing naming. I have a GRIIIX whihc is amazing and TINY but video is so bad it's effectively non existent!

A camera should be good for video and stills. ZV-1 was so-so for stills. I was waiting for an upgrade but instead Sony killed the lens... They made lens shorter and darker. What for me- the new camera is garbage. And yes, I am not a blogger.... Just compare the "new" lens with "old" from RX100 VII.
I don't understand how people can be so happy about the ZV1-II. I don't see any real reason to upgrade from Mark I

My Sony ZV-1 was totally destroyed because I used it with a dummy battery from a power bank. The service did not accept the warranty because the dummy battery was not manufactured by Sony. Even though I said that Sony does not produce such a product, they did not listen to me (I note that Panasonic produces its own dummy battery after realizing the weak battery error). Taking these into account, I decided that Sony ZV-1 never again. I use an DJI Action 3 instead and I am very satisfied with it.

@@coreymach_ You misunderstood: it's all because I couldn't use the camera for my goals. Due to the narrow picture cutout, I had to use a gimball and this made it very difficult to change the battery. I had to change something. And it's not just me. You can also see how Sony is experimenting with this type.
that is a problem with battery but if you didn't tell you use dummy battery how did they know?
It's honestly even more depressing knowing what magic lantern has done in the past couple of weeks with 12-year-old cameras, giving them the ability to record in 12-bit raw, and still here we are overpaying for bad products. I really hope someday somebody will reverse engineer these Sony cameras because I am sure the capabilities will be way better than we could even imagine.
