- In this video we are showing you how to dial in and make coffee using a Sunbeam Origins home espresso machine. We discuss the type of coffee that works best, how to adjust the grinder settings as well as developing a recipe so you can get the best out of your machine.
While we are making coffee we also talk about some of the features of the new Sunbeam Origins and one in particular that we are excited about is that it has a 58mm commercial size group head. Another great feature is the grinder not only being super quiet but it also has anti-static grinding producing a really nice clump free grind.
We hope you enjoy the video and if you have any questions please drop a comment or get in touch with us.

Great video! It makes me want this machine. You’re a very good instructor.
Thank you. We were very impressed with it, Cheers luke
I just got it on Mayers Black Friday sale for $675 delivered
how did you get it for $675? I went to Myer's website, and the price was 720@@djolemerc
I actually winced when you threw away 20 grams of coffee. Expensive stuff where I live.
Great video!! Im looking for a new 58mm group machine for my van and found your video. I had an older cafe series that lasted well over a decade. Was looking at the newer model but was interested to see what the origins could do. It all seemed perfect until you stopped the shot. Then I saw the over run. Yuk!!!
So Sunbeam has basically removed the three way solenoid that they use in the cafe series and added a conical burr grinder to make the origins series.
Such a shame as the origins is such a nice looking machine. But that over run on the shot is a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for the video!!
That's awesome thank you! I think I'm going to have to write Santa a letter :)
You should! He’s giving one away free 🤫
So a 1:2 shot at 17 sec??? Lol yummy! Is it even possible to get a decent shot from this thing like really?
Do the recipes you shared before in the commercial machine includes extraction time? Even if not, this 50s+ extraction doesnt match with the recipe you shared before?
Trying to work out if this is the same as the BREVILLE Barista Signature which doesn’t go under the Sage banner for some reason. Confusing but they look identical!
I am not sure they would be the same as sage = breville not sunbeam.
Sunbeam in Europe goes under the brand of Breville. Wich is confusing. But if you're in Europe: Breville = Sunbeam, Sage = Breville
Isn’t having a grinder next to your heating elements a bad idea?
It’s a compromise for space, remember it’s a sub $1000 machine
Yes, you’re right. Perhaps one could ‘single dose’.
What bottomless portafilter is compatible with the origins?
It has to be a sunbeam accessory only as it has 3 lock in lugs. Cheers luke
What are the dots across the top of the Acaia scale?
If it’s the top row of lights this is a graft that shows it’s just assessing the weight. If it’s the ones on the right these are triangles and squares that represent the different setting the scales can have, like auto tare, filling tare or other options that link to the acaia app
Can you buy any 58mm bottomless portafilter for this machine?
So, wasting 20g of coffee every morning.... that's over 600g coffer per month!!! That's ridiculous advice!
i understand purging a few grams when you're changing grind size or from old batch to new batch of beans. but purging a double shot's worth of beans every morning just because it's gone "stale" is absurd lmao. ig they could sell their blends faster thru this "method".
You can do the single dose if you wish, or use it for milk and not black, just a way to the best you can. Cheers luke
That's what you should do with Artisti's Champion blend.
5 to 7 g is enough you don’t need a whole basket full
Hello. You said that your first shot was overextracted. Doesn’t that mean that you have to do the opposite and make your grind coarser to fix that? You probably meant to say underextracted as it took only 27sec.
But he proceeds to go on to do a 52sec extraction.. 😂
What happened to the GS3 in your kitchen?
Hahah! It’s not a replacement, we know many people use this kind of machine and we want to help them make great coffee with our beans no matter the brand. Cheers luke
This versus delonghi Specialista Arte?
It sure, I have not played with the Delonghi, cheers luke
Your 2nd dialling-in attempt was a fail, 52 seconds? I wanted to see a 3rd attempt.
The. Vibration pump and the pre infusion was huge on the 2nd shot. Yes we aim for 32 sec with a 22.5g dose. However you can pre infuse for a long time if it does not come out oiling. I was quite impressed how it tasted with the long pre infusion. Credit to our beans and the back pressure valve of the sunbeam. Cheers luke
Hola 👋🏼 cuántos dólares cuesta?
❤
👍
In the morning Throw away the first dose; what a waste. Can you really get a "perfect" cup, I don't think so cos each person's taste is different, and it varies from one day to another and the time of day.
It’s only to clear out any grind that has passed the burrs, extract the 1st and give it go, then test the 2nd one. Let me know how you go
@@ArtistiCoffeeRoasters I know it still a waste of good coffee I won't be doing that even though my cupper may NOT be that "perfect".
Very informative video. However, it had the opposite effect (than planned) convincing me that I don't want this machine.
Oh, I am sure you will find a machine that has all you need. We have many reviews if that helps. Cheers luke
Would be good if they made this without the Grinder in built
Why not purge just a single shot's worth of coffee grounds? Seems enough to me
The time in the clock doesn't move! it is fixed at 6!
Good news no worries to get aged😅
Bro ysing 100g of coffee to make one latte
So much effort to then burn the coffee by not running water through straight away 😂
Sunbeam is cheap US brand. Definitely not synonymous with high quality products. If you’re in the market for a beginner Espresso machine with built-in grinder, you’d be better off with a Breville/Sage as they’re known for their quality. Since this is a paid promotion, I question this Sunbeam is a wise purchase. 🤔
Sunbeam in the USA is different from Sunbeam in Australia.
Sunbeam/Mr. Coffee in Europe is the same company as Breville, in fact Breville has this very same machine, just has the 'Breville' name plate on it. Like most companies that make consumer goods, Sunbeam also makes premium goods. There are many Sunbeam stand mixers from the 1950s and 1960s still in service and doing well in kitchens across the USA.. Again, Sunbeam makes some inexpensive small kitchen appliances and they make some premium ones that rival Breville/Sage.. I have a Sunbeam shaver, clothes iron, hand mixer that are premium and I've had the lower quality ones that you find at Target..
This espresso machine looks like a well built one.. The question is will it last, will the grinder hold out over time etc..
I have had two Sunbeam espresso machines, each one lasting around 10 years of daily use before parts needed replacing. I can’t speak for Sunbeam in the US, but in Australia they’re a quality appliance brand.
