I appreciate your in depth and measured analysis of the filter. I've been trying to make the Wolf' a little more expressive too. This DOD is a good solution. I enhances those warm Wolfie oscillators. There a lot going on in this video, visually - it was neat to see your hand move from the pedal window to the Wolf. I especially liked the tape cassette animations!
HA! I found that .gif years ago... & it's just been sitting on an External Drive, waiting. Glad it came across :] Also, thanks for the encouragement! I appreciate you pressing play.
Just wondering how the 440 would sound compared with the Electro Harmonix nano Q-tron on the Thimble Wolf, similar price but the Q-tron has lo pass, band pass, and hi pass options? I love the look of the 440 with its chunky knobs, but then again I loved the look of the Wolf and look where that got me for £199!
I don't actually have any experience with the QTron. I wound up buying the Waldorf 2 Pole & honestly, it's a bust. It's always clipping & super fiddly. I've more or less resigned myself to accepting the Wolf as it is... & focusing on it's strengths. Which, in my opinion... are the *AMAZING* Sequencer & just having 4 Analogue Voices. Let me know if you every hear an example with the QTron! :]
Yeah, I bought one of them as well. It works significantly better than the DOD EF 440, which is made for Guitars. Another great Effects Chain I found works with the Wolf is Vibrato/Flanger! Thanks for dropping by :]
This is great. Sometimes I wonder if AKAI should have gone with a 2 pole filter instead of a 4 pole for a more gritty sound. On the other hand, you can get some pretty smooth filtering with the filter they used. I think they want you to turn up the distortion knob to get more impact if you prefer higher resonance. I’ve definitely made some pretty crunchy baselines with this synth but it is finicky compared to a lot of modern analog synths. I like that it’s not a remake/clone but it’s a unique fully analog polysynth. Kind of rare in a way.
I paid $199 for it brand new. So even if I never used the Voices & just appointed it as the Sequencing Brain & Clock in my sessions... it would be well worth the money! I am definitely disappointed in the lack of Envelopes. But yeah, you can get some unique results, if you open your mind. But in fact, I made a whole EP with it: caalamus.bandcamp.com/album/omega-circuits-sketches-w-the-akai-timbre-wolf It also it features prominently in many of the Hardware Sessions I upload. I call them "PunkClock". I've skipped a few Seasons now. But they normally run from October to April, 4 Mondays a month! th-cam.com/video/KHbPigrCJvY/w-d-xo.html Thanks for having a look & a listen :] ...off to check out your Channel√
Wasn't really paying attention to Keys when the DX stuff came around. Those were days of garage sale Guitars & Pause Tapes. Was it hated? The Wolf ain't a Prophet 5. That's for sure! But for $199 brand new, you can't beat that Sequencer!!! You write? Are you the Mr. Ouija? Or just a coincidence?
Very true for the filter. Valid for both wolves: timbre and rhythm. If you run them through a distortion pedal, the filter comes to life all of a sudden. Another thing that I miss so much on the Wolves is an LFO. Check this out: th-cam.com/video/IvZpgLhLmNU/w-d-xo.html Some patch points would have been super easy and helpful remedy. You'll end up with quite a few external FX in this case
Very interesting and cool video 😀 🎶
Thanks man :]

@@CaalamusTube Will do, disappointing news about the Waldorf 2 Pole.
Man you got a very nice voice tone! Pleasure to listen to :)
Hey thanks :]
...actually took the time to use a
proper Microphone for this one :P
Like the tones you've coaxed out of the TW using the DOD - nice work 👍
I've managed to get pretty decent results using the Waldorf 2-Pole.

@@CaalamusTube yeah vibrato works, I'm using a Digitech Ventura Vibe on the 'Modern' setting, sooo good 😁
Extremely interesting!
Glad you think so. Thank you for tuning in :]

This might be the most controversial synth since the Dx7
