- A convicted murderer is escorted by marshals on a flight from Phoenix for New York. Shortly after taking off, two of his aides, disguised as passengers, seize control of the flight and free him.

Once in awhile a TV-movie comes along that's very good. Despite a few plot-flaws, this was gripping and held my attention to the end.

@firstbornjordan like why didn't swat plan the approach they did in the end from when the plane landed or shortly after once they got the info on who the hijackers were.
Why didn't the crew speak to air traffic when they were left alone in the cockpit several times.
That's what I got anyway.

Anthony Michael Hall really changed in appearance after The Breakfast Club, couldn’t recognize him after the movie.It’s like he went from being a teenager to a man in his mid 30’s overnight.
Quite a transformation
Over the years as he grew up he played different types of roles. Look at him five years after BC in Edward Scissorhands and you will see him be an asshole jock. He had grown into a good character actor.

The pilot girl has a sharp mind, she knows what she is doing, smarter than the guy pilot. I salute you girl pilot.
No. Not really. She got passengers hurt with her stupidity that ended up not benefiting anything. Furthermore, all maneuvers in aircraft should be talked over with the co-pilots before actions are made. Typical female emotions overruling intelligent thought

Anthony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy both did a GREAT job in their roles here. I was pleasantly surprised at the acting and script all around. Suspenseful but not over the top dramatics. Good film

It's amazing watching Ally Sheedy and Anthony Michael Hall playing antagonist and protagonist while James Brolin plays a cp-pilot and Michael Gross has a cameo. What a cast and the rest of the cast of actors and actresses played their roles very well. This movie is worth watching if have a lazy afternoon or evening to spare 90 minutes with popcorn and a bottle of kombucha.

The most dangerous piece of equipment was totally ignored in the end. But cool, kept me going throughout. The best behaved hijacked people I ever saw in a movie. Mum was smart.

And two of its actors, Ally Sheedy and Anthony Michael Hall starred together in The Breakfast Club in 1985, a classic teen movie. My kids were their ages back then. Now I'm a granny.
Imagine how weird I feel when I watch movies from 1958.
I was a young woman 26 years ago, with kids in their teenage...now I am grandmother to 2, the eldest going on 19 the youngest heading 5.
Time runs so fast, I still feel young, my hair is extremely thick all the way to my bum, my grandkid says I not even look 50, but I turned 50 in 2008 which feels long time ago.
Time is the strangest phenomen I know of...I've seen sooo much.
We did not even have Phone, Tv, Washingmaschine, refrigerator or a car when I was born. From I was 4 to 7 we did not even have a bathroom. We kids went potty and the grown had to use outdoor toilet.
I can remember my greatgrands sitting in front of their first washingmaschine watching their first pile of laundrie go around and around. The expression on their face like if they watched green men in there🤣🤣🤣.
I was 8 when we got our first car, 14 in 1972 when I got my first casetteplayer, and in the 90thies I got cd's right before my first computer in 1998.

Hold tight girl, life runs so fast. Chose well, because "tomorrow" when you are 64 like I am soon...you cant always chose again.

Actually, passenger 57 is the best plane movie ever✈✈✈plain & simple, but, its a nice movie. No doubt.
I really liked Redeye & Flight Plan, too.
So bad it's good, especially for an aviation geek. When the plane took off it had four engines, inflight two seem to have fallen off. And when the lovely old black lady asks for a soda with no caffeine she gets given Pepsi (which also mysteriously looks like water when she drinks it. Thanks for sharing it, a great popcorn movie.

There have been several over the years. St. Elmo's Fire had three people from BC, Blue City (1986) had Bender and Allison together, and Claire and Allison five years after BC played sisters in Betsy's Wedding.

The Captain maneuvering the aircraft it’s inspired by the hijacking of Federal Express flight 705, they mentioned the Marseille siege and the execution of the passenger that tried to flee from the aircraft it’s from the Pan Am 73 flight hijacking. Definitely who has made the script and the movie has made their homework.
@@nenblom I forgot that the “wife” mentioned also the Japanese as example of storming the aircraft, this detail it’s important because it’s related to Japan Air Lines Flight 351 that was hijacked by nine members of the Japanese Communist League-Red Army Faction on March 31, 1970, while flying from Tokyo to Fukuoka, in an incident usually referred to in Japanese as the Yodogo Hijacking Incident, Yodogo was the name of the aircraft (some aircraft receives names Lufthansa do the name thing for most of the aircraft owned). The hijacker’s plan was similar to the one of the movie plot, and has some similarities with the Marseille Air France hijacking. The hijacker’s of JAL 351 originally wanted to go to Cuba but the mileage was beyond the aircraft capacity, they decided to stop in Fukuoka to refuel ( fuel was calculated for a regional flight not a long distance flight) and then get airborne again to reach Pyongyang in North Korea. They released most of the hostages at Fukuoka, made it to North Korea and got political asylum as refugees (the end it’s the frustrating part of the happenings, the good thing it’s that there were 0 casualties or injured people.

Those 2 federal Marshalls were hopeless. Not only did the male have the opportunity to fight back against Cronin when he was seated but throughout the flight there would have been chances but they were no where to be seen. Some of the passengers were great & courageous with there actions like the father though I would have taken things one step further & tried to disarm one of them,they wasn't so tough. Good film though
