The answer to your question is yes it's level to the back mount. Find a used Diana storm rider it has a 2 stage trigger and the manometer is at the front of the air tube that way your gun will look much better, and you could put a Robert Lane regulator on it for really good consistency. Brilliant work done to that gun I must say 👏 I would like to see some target work with it 👍👍👍👍

Hello, thank you for confirming that, much appreciated. I think my version will definitely have a tuning kit. Good call with the Diana, I think there is also a Stoeger version too. I will see if I can borrow the gun and take it to the range. Certainly the builder's results have been excellent, group sizes equalling my S510. The gun he has built is truly excellent, just needs a few tweaks here and there.

Hello, hope all is well. I've just uploaded a video of the L42a1r on the range. Hope it is of interest.

As a grumpy middle aged man getting back into air rifles I enjoyed this immensely. Seriously nice work and kudos to your mate on the build.

Hello, thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes he is a talented individual but modest too so he will really appreciate your comment.
Hope you enjoy my other videos, the latest one on scopes isn't my finest work but hopefully the others are more interesting.
Safe shooting, have a great weekend.

A small riser with separate rings mounted to it might work

Hello, thank you for your comment much appreciated. The plan is to use the Vector Optics replica scope mount on the second prototype if time ever allows it.

@nickvending9688 oh nice im planning on building a replica of my own but of a 1903 springfield sniper your video motivated me lol

A sniper Springfield 1903, now there's a damn good looking rifle. Good luck with the project, hope it goes well.

@nickvending9688 indeed I was planning to use a benjamin maximus but wasn't aware that they are no longer available so searching for a good donor platform

Nice replica , I agree the bolt is a let down but everything else is pretty good. I own an SMLE & a N04 LEE ENFIELD in deactivated condition, very tactile things. I don't know why manufacturers don't try to get things 'right' when making replicas....your m8s home build is nearly there , a firm like umarex could really do a good job. The replica rifles on the market now always seem to have 'something ' that let's the rifle down, 3 come to mind...not that I own them...
The bb firing SMLE, ( can't recall who makes it), it looks bloody awful, there's something really wrong with the front end /bayonet lug set up, why steel bb, doesn't seem right for a rifle...the mosin nagant co2 bb rifle really looks the part, even has a folding spike bayonet , but again bb and the real barrel stops way short of the full length and finally a pellet firing gun, the Diana k98..🤔🤔🤔 it looks like a k98 from a distance, with one eye closed and the viewer only knows the rifle from watching one war film!!!....the butt stock is all wrong , I'd forgive it being an under lever if they had disguised the action, well the slot for breaking the barrel at least ....and made a fake working bolt action....or why not make them all pcp pellet?. They are a sort of middle ground of nowhere, the reviews of the k98 are good as a shooter, but at the price you'd be better off with a remington express, the SMLE just looks bad, the mosin good looking replica but price again, you'd be better off buying a deac for display...anyway that's just my thoughts on the matter cheers

He did a good job, the gun shoots really well.
Totally agree with you, always something not quite right. The BB SMLE has too many errors for me, shame because it would have only needed 5% more effort to get it looking right.
The BB Moisin Nagant is the carbine, why they didn't go for full length is beyond me. The plastic stock is pretty bad in real life.
There is a PCP K98 from Diana, think it is based on the PR900W. It fixes some of the issues but still falls a bit short. Shame because it could have been great.

@@nickvending9688 thanks for the reply, sometimes I'm torn between deacs and replicas....although I've just paid for a denix stg/mp 44 which in deac form I could never afford, but a replica might be ok as I do display a lot of DDR east germam stuff as well as ww2

It is a difficult choice. I think the current deactivation laws put the final nail in that coffin for me because now a lot of replicas are more functional than deacts and as you say a lot less expensive.
The other thing that gets me down about deacts is when they deactivate a rifle that would have been in perfect condition and a good shooter. No problem when it was worn out and beyond economical repair like my L59, but my Longbranch was like new and one of my SMLEs had been FTR and then put into storage before being stripped of its stock and deactivated - criminal really.

@@nickvending9688 I know what you mean, the other thing is the condition of the work to deactivate the weapon. I work in engineering and use welding equipment and other tools that would be used by the gunsmiths and the welding is often rough but the biggest issue is that I've had a deac that had been cut with a grinder as part of the process and they had left all the sharp edges , 'rag/burrs', on the cut , then put the gun back together. It was awkward to get the edges off, why didn't they do that when the gun was apart?, it would of taken a minute or two with a file, and deacs ain't cheap. I did buy a pps43, polish 1950 version, in EU deactivation standard. The cocking handle moves under spring tension, so no dry fire. It was a reasonable price and came with spare mags , mag pouch, oil bottle and sling. It's good for a Russian or German ww2 display so some deacs are still worth a punt. I'm glad I've got a couple of lee enfields and a couple of k98s all dry fire before the law changed...although one of my k98s is a bit of a dogs breakfast...I got stiffed...but that's another story, cheers and all the best🙂

Yes, for the price they are sold at you'd expect better workmanship. One of mine was nearly butchered during the deactivation process, they almost cut off the boss for the action screw and they twisted the rear sight so the gun doesn't sit straight in the fore-end. I had to grind down some welds so it would sit reasonably well. I'd get the sack if I sent a £20 product out like that, never mind something at the price of a deact.
