OK ... just for comparison - here's the Norwegian law. As long as you're 18+ you can buy/own an air rifle in .177Cal Any larger Cal requires a letter from the police! You cannot shoot anything with a face, fur, feathers, scales or mother. The police do not consider an air rifle to be a firearm - try telling that to an airline when travelling with your pride and joy. You cannot shoot a "skytevåpen" (shooting weapon) in a built up area - which includes your garden, unless you live in the country. As with the UK, pellet prices have gone through the roof !

You must 50ft from the centre of a public highway
Where are all starlings
They migrate
Starlings are here all year round.
1:45 can you shoot them without having the need to say they’re damaging crops?
I think he said no to wood pigeons at all. Unless you can prove they are damaging crop's and using other alternatives first before you shoot them. Just grow a little bit of wheat in your garden.
Thank you
So can I shoot magpies and crows that are eating the songbirds in my garden?
It depends where you are. Have a look at Fcha.nl/gl - and the law changes in Wales on 1 July. / Charlie
@@fieldtester7655 I'm in England
Magpies are increasing here in SW Scotland .
Where in the uk has wild ringnecks?
london
Teesside
Ringnecks are everywhere.
I live in the north-west. Not exactly swarming with parakeets around here. And if they were I wouldn’t be shooting them. Beautiful creatures. Why would you wanna shoot a parakeet? Do you even have a wild parakeets in the UK?
Yes there are loads in and around Kew Gardens. My tree in Bromley is full of them, they are beautiful. Why would you shoot them
Twickenham.
How about sasquatch? I have a sasquatch problem in my garden
Do you need a license in Scotland to own a air gun ?
YES
You ca get a licence for a 12 bore shotgun in england
Not a good idea to fire one in your back garden.
I believe is best not to shot any feed them instead
It's easy to shoot them if you put seed out for them.
Yes feed them, fatten them, shoot them, then eat them.
@@glenntaylor5222 I have some lovely parakeet recipes..

Advice on how to aquire an air gun
From from what I recall your not allowed to shoot within 50 yards of a dwelling.. So for most your not allowed to shoot in your back garden.. That's a very important detail to miss out.. This gives the impression that it's OK to shoot in your backyard.. Most people have narrow adjoining gardens where children are often playing.. Shooting an air-rifle so close to other peoples property is an accident waiting to happen..
I think it is actually " 50 yards from the centre of a public highway , if it causes distress to a member of the public"
50 feet not 50 yds
@@harpoonlouis it is 50 feet . The big one if you are shooting in your garden is, "no projectile shall cross the boundary of your property."
@@thelonerizla1 yep, armed trespass is serious offence
any thing that moves
The question is, why would you want to shoot anything in your garden?
You would have to be a pretty sick individual to encourage wildlife into your garden only to kill it.
I have owned an air rifle and pistol for the last fifty years and never killed anything,
Never felt the need to do it, never will feel the need to prove I can do it because I know I can.
Good for you sir there's to meny sick people who really shouldn't weapons
Same goes for the landed gentry who encourage grouse to flourish on "their" land, so they can charge extortionate fees to kill them
I’m thinking about encouraging vegans into my garden. I’ll extend shooting permission to anyone who asks.
There’s a place in heaven for you. I happily shoot squirrels and rats that trespass in my garden. By the way, I have numerous nest boxes and bird feeders in my garden, I’m pro wildlife, but not invasive species.
@@noblestsavage1742 Dont bother. They're like eating celery: more calories consumed by chewing that you get from consuming.
We didn't get any messages, and captain blackadder definitely didn't shoot this delicious, plump-breasted pigeon.
Can you shoot sea gulls?
nope
@@JohnWhite-tg9wf are they not vermin now
im very glad i live in the us the UK kinda sucks with the laws
Yes it’s crap here
@@dsplodge86 Yea I really wish yalls government would stop with that junk its so stupid
@@dsplodge86 Yea I feel really bad for you guys I wish you could have some fun stay safe and happy shooting!
Most people's gardens are not far enought from the road so they can't shoot at all in their garden by law.
my next door niebour complaind about me shooting pigeous in my garden , had permission of landlord .'police came and said as the garden was inclosed it was ok . they moaned again as police came again and said i could shot targets but not birds as i would need a agricultal license . how do i stand ?
Did the police have a good look around ? Had them knock in mine just didn’t answer the door haha
Can you legally shoot a airpistol in your flat down the hall.
You can shoot it, but you have to fill the holes with toothpaste in case your mum notices.
Clear as mud. Thank you
Why did you kill that beautiful bird... please explain if there's a good reason.
no mention of elephants ?
There was a bunch hanging round McDonald’s in my area. Ordered a ton of food 😂
Is this still the case in 2024?i have rats around my chickens in the front garden I need to deal with. Enclosed 6 foot fence and back stop. But idiots for neighbours so just making sure it's still OK to control rats.
In Wales you cannot shoot corvids, wood pigeons or collared doves.
Do Fieldsport shooters count as vermin.
Yes
Yet you can't shoot seagulls...
Which species of gull do you mean ?
You can’t shoot robbers, ask Tony Martin.
Back stop tell that to the doctor in the film
master and commander
...now... it would be awesome... if you could turn that video into a rap song...that would be rolling on the floor funny and then play it at super high volume in front of Parliament...
Sorry if wrong but I thought you couldn't shoot an airgun within 25 yards of a built up area is this a false statement?
Legislation might have changed, but I believe you are allowed to use an air weapon up to 12ftlbs in your garden providing the pellet doesn’t leave your boundary. My neighbour shoots pigeons in trees that are not on his property from his garden, so he is probably breaking 2 laws.

OK ... just for comparison - here's the Norwegian law.
Why would I want to shoot anything in my garden?
Thanks didn't want to get nicked. Lol
May I suggest individuals who feel the need to shoot creatures for 'fun' may wish to consider turning their guns on themselves? I won't object to that.
So am I able to shoot pigeons/magpies in my back garden legally? They are really pi**ing me off crapping everywhere and also eating my cherries in the summer!
Is ah fox considered ah pest? 😅
It’s a lot more pleasurable to feed them rather than kill them.
So, with only sub 12ft\lbs polititions are off of the menu then!??.
Jays are endangered now so not good to be shooting them.
I like the idea of being able to protect my country from increasingly corrupt government.
You are not allowed to shoot in your back garden in Scotland, not even target shooting.
What about a Larsen trap, I have an uneducated niebour who feeds the Jackdaws close by.
Got hundreds of them by me too and they need thinning out a bit. Didn’t think of a Larsen 🤔
Not being allowed to shoot wood pigeons for food is INSANE.
Agreed
It's a modern version of the kings game
No, it isn't. It's daft environmentalists manipulating DEFRA.@@46FreddieMercury91
Who cares what your local game keeper thinks, I've got a tasty pheasant on my plate so no complaints here
Why delete my comments when they only give legal guidance? Do you want people to break the law?
So wait.. you can shoot a wood pigeon but cant cook and eat it?
Why?
Thanks for this. It's a law brought in by the Conservatives in the early 1990s but only talked about since 2019. / Charlie
you can eat it, you are just not allowed to kill it if the purpose of killing was to eat it
That was ace,,, You can,,,, but not in Ireland,,, you can,,, but not in England....x
Don't shoot what u don't eat
What about cats , neighbours or even postmen .......
Chris Packham would be a prime target!!
don't go there - BBC keep putting the kn@b on more programs and i cant stand the guy - buys a large house in the country yet shows no respect for tradition or the need to keep pest animal numbers down
Why? He's a ornithology scientist not a hunter (Was previously a corvid behaviourist from Southampton University) so conservation is his stance, and it's every bit as good as yours. And definitely has forgotten more than you will ever know about the countryside, especially about bird species.
The only thing i get my rifle out for these days is if a pheasant drops in, free dinner.....
