I will be purchasing a NEX-5R shortly based on the majority of the reviews I have seen. One thing I noticed from handling it at the store, and during this review as well. The e-mount lenses seem to be a bit tricky to put on. My old Nikon D90 and lenses had a small dot to align lens to camera. A small thing, but it seems to make a difference.
An excellent and comprehensive review, even if you consider the date at which it was made. The NEX 5N was a good camera and it made probably sharper pictures, than NEX 5R with it's hybrid a/f system. But the NEX 5N longevity was affected by it's capacitive screen, that was prone to top layer delamination. The NEX 5R and the later on NEX 5T with the added use of downloadable apps, stretch the camera "flexibility" to nearly that of a Nikon / Canon professional DSLR cameras. By the way, the sensitivity of that "resistive" screen is much improved by addition of Sony made stick on screen protector [strange as it might sound].
I like the wi-fi function i use it to get high quality photosfrom my iPhone to instagram. It is not as buggy at all in fact the message he got on the iPhone actually means the photo was copied. Now some of the other apps are useless.Well, except for the time lapse which most cameras including my Canon 7d need a 100 dollar remote to do so i think the time lapse app is well worth the price but i do like the camera a lot. P.S You would surprised now much you use the flip up screen LOL

The viseo capability is pretty good on this camera and dare I say better than my 7D. Question. How do I enable Hybrid auto focus on the NEX5R please ?

Yes there is anew version of this it's called the Sony NEX 5T and the Nex 5T has the 180 flip screen and the touchscreen became better! Sony made the screen capacitive touchscreen just like how the 5N was. You'll like it oh and i forgot to mention the 5T comes with NFC that's the new feature
Sony's NEX-5R camera gets a D grade from me. Got this camera 3 years ago, and it was used and abused. What I disliked most about the camera was that it had the tendency to heat up when recording for long periods of time. Camera picture quality and color looked dull. The NEX-5R would malfunction and then reboot. I don't know what was up with this camera, but it's just a terrible piece of electronic hardware.
+auomauom Strange, I bought this camera recently (brand new) and I've been using it daily to take pictures and record videos... Poor picture/colour quality and excess heat hasn't been a problem for me. I hope it doesn't turn into one.
I hope you don't run into problems as well. I used this camera to its limits, with hours and hours of recording and photo times. Within a year or two problems started to arise. I'm very disappointed in this Sony camera. Good luck with yours.
Please stop misusing "great depth of field" ! Logically speaking, Great depth of field = big DOF = lots in focus. The phrase you're looking for is "shallow of depth of field"
No, No No No No, don't buy the N used get the R Much better camera that new autofocus is great you can get this camera used for a hundred bucks now. GREAT VLOFFING CAMERA but no audio jack unfortunately

I prefer DSLR's over the mirrorless cameras. The NEX series isn't bad it seems. Great review!

Both of those questions are fully answered in the video. They are scaled down images and it takes quite a while.
I can change the image resolution on my Playmemories Android app to original resolution in the settings. Maybe you were using an old version?
I noticed that the Nikon D3200 and D5100 are around the same price would these be better cameras to get?
