I can't believe I found somebody still making videos about these cameras! You are awesome! I have a NEX-5 that I bought when I was in Japan back in 2010 or 2011, when the camera was brand new. I haven't used it much the last few years, but I dusted it off recently. Being a Japanese model, the language is locked to Japanese and cannot be changed, but I can read a fair bit of Japanese and so I've figured out most of the options. There were a couple stumping me though, and believe it or not your video has helped! Keep up the good work! Liked and subbed.
Recently I have bought a NEX 5N from Ebay at 99 USD. I think it is a very capable camera in a low budget. Please keep this video series going on. Loved your videos on this camera.

@@tornikechitadze20 I'd go for it! Overheating will usually only occur when recording video for long periods of time, and that lens will be a good starter telephoto lens (with the 1.5x crop from this cameras sensor it will be equivalent to about 52-105mm).
Nex is very useful as the base for manual lenses from different brands (well, 6500 will be better choice because of the matrix stabilisation, but the price is 5 times higher also). As about your choices - I am not agree about ISO level. The olny reason you should keep it as low as it possible - is because your are shooting for photobanks. They are always asking for low noise level, and that`s why, yes, you have to keep it at minimum. But, for most of purposes, there is basic level of noise that is absolutely acceptable, with no damage to colors, or detailisation, or sharpness, or contrast. As for me, Sony Nex-5 series produces good quality pictures (looking to noises) up to 800 ISO, sometimes 1600 could be normal, even in commercial shooting, reportage, for example. For video, you could upscale ISO even to 3200 without serious losses in colors or detailisation (because video is not single static shot where your eyes catch every particle). And, on the other hand, higher ISO lets you to keep the acceptable exposure time to shoot without any tripod, manually (1/60, or, 1/30 with IS native NEX lens). Otherwise, looking only to lowest ISO, you will loose your mobility putting your camera on the tripod.

I recently picked one up and I love it, main camera currently is the a7rii with an a6300 back up but ive been wanting to get something very cheap just to screw around with to see what images and videos i can get from it and i must say for how old it is, its definitley still good, i love the aesthetics of the build as well! it makes me wanna get the nex 7 now lol

Hi, how are you? Man, I have 5 NEX 5N cameras, all of them accepted the firmware that allows clean output. However, one of my cameras must have been purchased in Europe and only records in 50P and 25P. I think I would need to reinstall firmware version 1.02 for USA, however when I try this, the installation does not proceed because the version I am using is the latest. The question is, do you know or know of anyone who went through this and what was the solution?

I am planning to shoot insta reels with out and i dont think AF-S works that good on video mode as i will be dancing and i need focus on my face and i cant stay at one place.

hi, after stumbling randomly stumbling upon your firmware update video, i dusted my old nex5n from the storage reminisced the years back days. anyway, may i ask, my camera doesn't have the histogram option AVCHD 60i/60p only 50i/60p. i tried updating the firmware but it already has the 1.02 version. any idea why is my camera different? thanks.

Look into the NEX 7, it's pretty cheap, and it has a mic input. You will need a hot shoe adapter to mount a normal video light on it but the adapters are pretty cheap as well. I'd say that's the best option!
@@FoxTailWhipz i've seen people who assign the autofocus to some other button and then they just use the shutter to take the pic. i think that it was a6000 or some other cam from a6xxx series.
@@Yamyams123 If I remember correctly you can watch in on mac in quicktime. You have to rightclick on folder and choose open package (I don't have mac on hand, so you have to match sth ;v). You have to do it with every folder you open. The path to right folder is: \PRIVATE\AVCHD\BDMV\STREAM. In the last folder are .MTS files, that you can normally play. On the other hand if you just want to import them straight to Resolve, just use their media browser ; )

This settings video could be helpful if I had the options for 24p in the settings for image size as outlined here, but my NEX5 does not show movie, image size, it's grayed out there's no record setting for bit rate, so I don't see 24 frames per second. I've got an NEX 5. HELP 🆘.

You need to switch the camera into NTSC mode. That’s valid for most cameras. PAL can only do 25p and multiple, while NTSC can record in 24p, 30p and 30p multiples (60, 120, 240)

Look into the NEX 7, it's pretty cheap, and it has a mic input. You will need a hot shoe adapter to mount a normal video light on it but the adapters are pretty cheap as well. I'd say that's the best option!

Once I have all of these settings done, how in the hell do I save these settings. If I unplug and plug back in, the settings are gone.

check if your file format is set to AVCHD.

Something that will help is flipping the screen up away from the body, but besides that, these cameras just have that issue sadly.

The Nex5 make Vetter Video aus the a5000. The Nex5 kann make 50 FPS the 5000 max. 30 and the settings are awesome in the Nex5...
