    As impressive as this is, no quad will ever look as good as a single rotor heli doing 3d - Period.

      Yea, I agree. Multirotor doing 3D doesn't have the same appeal as a helicopter doing 3D.
      Also, I'm with ya on #KeepRCHelisAlive

      @adakalyoncu1913 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Helis can be more aggresive than multirotors since on a heli, you don't need to stop the motor and take the props to the same rpm reverse which takes quite alot of time compared to a heli changing pitch of it's blades.

    I guess rc cars have been doing this for a long time but it still blows my mind that the motors are doing that.

      Alan Jr is a professional rc helicopter test pilot, and among the best in the world hands down. Search his name along with "Align 500 heli" (or 600 or 700 etc.) to see what he's really capable of! Should hopefully blow your mind ;-)

  • @alchemistaerials

    Reversing motors has no additional wear if you're using motors that are overpowered for the copter size. the bearings don't care if it's a pusher or puller config. You only have to worry about the small gauge wires over heating do to constant amp changes. A large motor with thicker gauge wire will solve that.

    Is this collective pitch or are the propellers actually reversed?

  • @Bapao76
    @Bapao76 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Is it just reversing the rotation ? If so, how long are the motors expected to last? Must seem like a proper thrashing....

    • @BladeScraper
      @BladeScraper 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes it reverses the motors. As long as the motors are good and powerful enough its not a problem. They will get warmer than on a normal quad but nothing to be worried about. I'm building a 3D quad myself right now.

    • @mdntblu
      @mdntblu 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      R/C Cars do this already. Go off a jump and want to level out you will reverse super quick. Or if you're going down a long straight away and want to do a skid you reverse the motors. Nothing new.

    • @c4pt1n54no
      @c4pt1n54no 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez they're most definitely brushless. Brushed motors kill themselves running in reverse, wouldn't last a minute in the air like that. all multirotor ESCs I've seen released in the past couple years can be programmed to run bi-directionally. The control signal from the flight controller has a resolution of 2000 steps usually, and most ESCs have much lower actual output resolution, so splitting the throttle channel in half, top for downward thrust and bottom for reverse thrust works excellently. The only thing stopping most quadcopters from performing like this is their software configuration, and props that are optimized for downward thrust. I've seen a nitro engine mounted on one of Curtis Youngblood's stingrays, that's all I can really see as an advantage to a collective multirotor. In the middle, the thrust stops, but the blades don't necessarily. A well configured flight controller always maintains stability and desired heading. gravity is gravity so if you're perfectly sideways with zero pitch versus zero motor rpm, you're still going to fall until you flip over.

    alanszabojr I have to imagine that seems pretty boring to you compared to your normal fair. Have you tried the stingray? I'm wondering how it compares to the reversing ESC models. I would think CP is faster to change direction.

    There's no way that after the second crash the props would have been in one piece....and at least two arms would have been bent to hell. Have had two small mishaps with mine and it definitely isn't that forgiving in a crash, luckily it isn't too expensive too fix.

  • @AndyKayJah
    @AndyKayJah 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amazing flying! Sounds like a lot of suffering for the motors though. I'm thinking about doing this with my mini Hex I'm building.... but I'm concerned my motors (cheap multistar Elite 2204) might get damaged due to those rapid RPM changes... what do you think?

    • @DieselRamcharger
      @DieselRamcharger 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      AndyKayJah rpm change cant hurt a motor. there is no brush, only a collapsing magnetic field. the stuttering you think you hear are the motors reversing so it can fly upside down... ie electronic negative pitch.

    • @BladeScraper
      @BladeScraper 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diesel Ramcharger it doesn't physically harm them, but reversing so fast draws lots of amps, and it does take a toll on a motor if its not able to handle it the amps.

    • @AndyKayJah
      @AndyKayJah 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diesel Ramcharger Yeah I know it's reversing the motors... how else would he be able to fly such maneuvers^^ I was just wondering if this might harm the motors' bearings or something.

    • @AndyKayJah
      @AndyKayJah 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      KpilotRCHelis so I assume it would be best to use a little overpowered motors, so there's a little reserve regarding the amps

  • @ixxx78
    @ixxx78 8 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @mikegigabyte
    @mikegigabyte 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    im guessing motors are flipping rotation
    like on helicopter the blades change pitch to fly upside down these motors instantly change direction
    im waiting for collective pitch rotors on a quad with swash plate, serovs and all that
    then it will be super maneuverable as long as the blades to flex too much

    • @xTotalGhost
      @xTotalGhost 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      They already have a CP quad on Amainhobbies
      But i think the motors spin at the same rotation but just push air in both directions?

    • @Dread-I-Productions
      @Dread-I-Productions 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      google stingray quad

    • @topxe.
      @topxe. 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The advantage of this over a CP design is the simplicity, efficiency (longer flight time), and robustness. A CP design has a lot more moving and breakable parts. However, CP is faster at reversing the thrust and has a bit more "float" due to the blade's constant speed.

    • @IanF-FPV
      @IanF-FPV 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Topxe
      Agreed. I still think the stingray is the better design overall. That guy Curtis knows his shit...lol

  • @insurancemann1

      Good ESCs use regenerative braking, similar to a hybrid or electric car. Either to recharge a capacitor on the board, or the battery itself. It's not much, but definitely offsets the upcoming punch in the reverse direction
