    this is just one of the greatest things ive ever seen. raw wheel to wheel racing in classic 10m+$ supercars oversteering inches from one an other...i have to see one of these races in person.

    That sound is total bliss. Long live people like Nick Mason who prefer to race this piece of automotive history than to hide it in a shed somewhere.

    i remember Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien at Sebring Florida in 1962 driving what seemed to be a bluish turquoise GTO to a second place overall. One of it's original outings i believe. That particular car was powered by a 4 liter Testa Rossa motor. Both Hill and Gendebien drove that car like a stratovarius at the limit. A very beautiful sight in the sunshine. It's timeless beauty, then, by 20 year old eyes remains frozen in time still to this day.

    This is so much better for a GTO than sitting in a museum.

    Wow Mark Hales really knows how to drive these machines. Was powering through the gears with pin point precision. You would need balls of steel for that type of driving in such a machine.

    Old gearbox used to have 1st gear in our current second gear, so that their 2 second gear and third gear were aligned (thus allowing for faster gear changed between 2 and 3)

    Mark Hales has previously driven the car several times. That was Brundle's first drive of it. No wonder there is a difference in their abilities.

    Oh hell yeah....regardless of being worth millions or hundreds, it shows much more respect for these classics by still racing them! Cars like being driven :) Why just look at a GTO when you could see and hear it do what it was made for?

    I honestly can't say I've heard anything like it, in a word "Haunting".Before hearing this the ultimate car sound had to be the BMW Powerplant in Mclarens F1, but this is just mental. I have to say Porsche 956 is also up there

    It's called a "dog box" and it eliminates the use if the clutch in down and up shifts for wide open throttle gear shifts only time u use the clutch is to start off in first gear

  • @piero71de
    @piero71de 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The original Ferrari reacing gear boxes had the 1 where normally you find 2. This because 2-3 and 4-5 are in line, in order to be quicker to change

  • @actoroc111
    @actoroc111 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most thorough bread race cars have a dog leg gearbox. Reason being you only use 1st the once when pulling away off the grid. Gears you normally use 2nd - 3rd & 4th-5th are strait changes. The car in front in Adrian Newey’s original light weight e-type (although after years of Redbull wind tunnel and other mods it really isn’t much like the other light weights any more! The 64GTO isn’t as good looking as the 39 original shape GTO’s but its fast as hell!

    One of the reasons they were passed so easily on the straights was that a plug lead had come off and they were only running on 11 cylinders (according to the article in Octane).Not to say all the development on the other cars isn't true :-(

  • @BIOSHOCKFOXX
    @BIOSHOCKFOXX 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    This one seems to have first gear down, and 5th gear on the far right down, and reverse seems to be the very first up, so that's why i thought why he started with second gear, cause that's the first actually.

    Most ferraris and lambos till the late 90's had a reverse gear set up so 1st in a normal car would be reverse in a 250 gto

  • @doyouremember7536
    @doyouremember7536 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Even if the value of that car is estimated at 14.000.000 GBP, it all the same doesn't cost that amount to repair it if they have an accident with it, or am I mistaken? So therefore next time step on it boys!

    • @wasuprobleemjoh
      @wasuprobleemjoh 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Do you remember? replica's can be made for just a fraction of the price! But things like engine and gearbox wear out after time and is just repairing wich don't harm the value i think, as long as the rest keeps undamaged...

    • @doyouremember7536
      @doyouremember7536 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +wasuprobleemjoh Sorry to correct you, but as a trained Automobile engineer, I can tell you that the gears can be remanufactured, the Colombo V12 can be overhauled, etc.

    • @wasuprobleemjoh
      @wasuprobleemjoh 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh ok, then you know a lot more then me about it! but what makes it 'original' then as after a crash a lot of parts has to be replaced?

    • @doyouremember7536
      @doyouremember7536 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +wasuprobleemjoh Already when they raced these cars in the past, they were given updates etc. Now let's take the "Breadvan" for example, and look it up on Wikepedia, you will discover that this car started live as a 250GT SWB! So how original is that? And yet, it is considered to be one of the most desired Ferraris in the world.

  • @thomasschwartz8084

    Why getting passed by so many Jags? Some new tires perhaps?

  • @jcadlols
    @jcadlols 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    First thing he did was try to jam the dogleg into reverse... whilst they make for a quicker 2nd - 3rd shift, I'd be pretty wary of owning one :S

  • @thaMacedonianKing
    @thaMacedonianKing 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can anyone answer my question: Why is he taking of in 2nd gear? I know that this is a €20 mil. car with V13 engine and 300hp, but I still don't understand why not taking of in 1st gear... Anyone? :)

  • @alextheflyboy890

    a very expensive collectible to put at risk. i believe those things sold for for 25 grand when new. The GTO's were dethroned when the cobras became dominant aroud 63-64. I remember a used and uncompetitive Goat selling for 15 grand with title and racing history in one of the competition rag publications way back when, naturally i thought in my projected wisdom, Bad investment. A wise man could have collected every one of them for dirt during Cobra fever. Who know!

    I know that he started in first because this is a racing gearbox... nut he was stupid by shifting straight up into reverse instead of moving right and up... never in a normal car do you shift straight up to change up a gear... their is no way to justify this guy changing gear wrong
