@@J7Jase I *started* with the PSP version, and the sound difference with some of the abilities was obvious to me right away when I first played Journey of the Five. The folks who argue that there is no difference either need to fix their TVs/PSPs or get their ears checked out at a doctor, haha.

I just want to personally thank you for taking the time to acknowledge the massive sound discrepancies between the original psx version and all the version to come after. As a huge audiophile and someone who has a deep appreciation for the type of backdoor tricks that alot of sound engineers / composers had to do from this era and before to create the desired effects on the hardware, when i first played war of the lions on psp it was an IMMEDIATE deal breaker to me. And i have lost count of how many times ive been outgunned in online forums / discussions. For anyone reading this that is curious, many composers at this time, hitoshi sakimoto and motoi sakuraba to name 2 stand out examples, utilized a reverb trick on the ps1s hardware to simulate soundstage and ambiance in many games they worked on. Said reverb effect is then essentially relied upon when the music was being made and in its absence, the OST was basically ruined here. Likewise with many of the critical effects such as FFTs unit death cry, as well as the exmaples shown in this video. This is why Vagrant story, star ocean 2nd, valkyrie profile and fft have this immediately recognizable sweeping "fullness" to their OSTs and over all audio delivery.

I love evidence and showing real examples so I had to show this for people to see. I actually got a comment earlier yesterday that said the PSX sounds were worse than the PSP and IOS/Android ports. So seeing your comment is amazing! I wanted to include more examples but I really loved these two examples shown in the video. Thank you again and have a great one! I absolutely agree with you. It's almost impossible for me to play the PSP version because the sound feels absolute flat and devoid of any reverb plus the sound does not feel wide at all.
@@meanlook2864 Exactly, i remember being so excited to finally being able to be one of the " Special " classes, seeing Delita become one, and Ramza staying the same, i wanted to be a dark Knight like Gafgarion and the psp version allowed to do that, but as soon as i heard the sounds i quit the game and never touched it again to this day. The sounds of the original PS1 game are so superior its not even comparable.
The reverb to all the sound effects and music is one of the reasons why I love the PSX version regardless if it lacks the content from WOTL as the latter sounds off.
Holy shit, this is amazing! FFT is my favorite game of all time after all these years -- I love that the community is still active and making awesome stuff like this. Glad the rendezvous missions are in a playable state, sound novels would be an amazing addition. There is a rumor about a PC release of FFT, and if true, would be an absolute delight to mod.
I don't like to believe rumors. Square needs to officially announce it. FFHacktics gets my support first and foremost for their work and dedication. More importantly, the group has been super kind and welcoming. They will take my money first. The original team who made FFT and Tactics Ogre LUCT are also no longer at Square. I doubt the current team will add much to a remaster though.

Interesting sound comparison. I’d agree that the original sounds better. WOTL’s version sounds like they focused a bit more on specific parts of the sound from the original.
@@J7Jase I don't play enough games WITH the audio, so I don't really ever notice the difference between original and new audio. However, I DID notice the scuffed audio for the Onimusha emulator I am using. The "Menu Fix" that I shared with you on Discord improves that part, though, as well as the overall game in the menus and such.

It is one of the best games for sure. I wish there were a few things about it like archers being better etc. more character dialogue from other characters like Agrias and so on. But it is my favorite of all time.

Valkirst just popped into the forums and was like "hey, I just made a newer Ashley Riot sprite" one day, basically. I don't think it was even super common knowledge that he was going to replace Luso in TLW, so it might have been just a total coincidence!

Lol. I actually liked Luso and FFTA2. But nothing tops the original Matsuno games. I'd love to have seen Denam instead of Ashely. But Ashley makes more sense.

that bastardization of Luso was so dirty. I guess replacing him was easier than making more unit slots. I didn't mind him being a Ramza Clone (minus the androgynous magic growth ) or what not. I liked having someone do all the Squire shit that otherwise only Ramza can do and have that at the ready than switching Ramza's class or abilities. that way my Ramza can just be the math wizard of holy destruction that I want him to be.
Funny that this mod adds Ashley from Vagrant Story, a game which I'm playing for the first time these days just bc I remembered how that game's lore is connected to Ivalice lol
I never played Vagrant Story but I know it was retconned to be part of Ivalice. Matsuno initially wanted to just have references and Easter Eggs but Square connected them. He made a tweet about it. Not sure about FFXII and the Tactics Advance games though so I don't see anything on it.

I agree. Even though I played the heck out of the first one. FFTA2 was way better in my opinion. Just wish the progression of it wasn't that slow. Otherwise enjoyed it.
What do mean with a blindfold? I’m genuinely curious what in FFTA seems so mysterious or confusing. Personally, your description exactly fits how I feel about FFT. The Zodiac signs are one of the most important stats in the game, but to my knowledge it’s not mentioned anywhere in the game. The first time I played, I wound up with a white mage with terrible chances to hit Ramza and most of the other allies. The second time, I got soft locked at Wiegraf. I’m only now giving it a solid third try because I love FFTA and FFTA2 so much.
@@dracoerrarus4834 Probably the Law system. You can see what the Laws are in advance, AND in battle, but the need to check them, and the process of checking them, is a lot more unintuitive and annoying than it needs to be, especially considering the punishment for violating a Law can so severe, it is NEVER worth it to do so. It's a system that would literally be improved if it just flat out prevented you from violating Laws at all. And when I say it's unintuitive and annoying, I mean because you have to go out of your way to check the Laws. It's a mechanic that can Game Over you (or permanently weaken units, or permanently lose some of your equipment) if you screw it up - why aren't illegal commands greyed out, or highlighted in red, or something? I actually once tried to get around a "Don't Damage X Type of Unit" law by using Petrify instead, because it wasn't **damage**. Nope, my unit got Red Carded, removed from the battle, sent to jail, and had a piece of her equipment permanently lost. I literally couldn't have won that battle without taking out that unit, either, and I had no Anti-Law cards to get rid of that law with. The original FFT has a lot of Guide Dang It stuff, but once you learn the importance of Brave and Faith, you don't need to keep going out of your way to check it to know what it's going to impact. The Zodiac compatibility also isn't particularly game-breaking in either direction. Plus, if you screw up something in relation to either of those, it's not going to result in insanely harsh punishments though. Wiegraf The Save File Killer has no excuse, though. (And it's absolutely insane to me that Square never fixed it for any version of WotL.)
@@Nyzer_ Maybe. I totally forgot you had to look up the laws, though I didn’t run into issues with the law descriptions (A2 is actually worse about that). I did actually take a few yellow cards on purpose, but only when I couldn’t remove it. But I would disagree on Zodiac: single-digit chances to hit is game breaking and makes white mages virtually useless unless you know how to manipulate it. The positive side is that only a handful of unlucky people will start with such bad party formations.

This mod is amazing!!! I wish they made a 5th chapter or even just a part two to the game. And honestly I’m looking forward to the delita mod. And when are they gonna finish journey of the 5 chapter 2? It’s been soo long. More over I think it would be super sick if they would make a final fantasy game called “the 50 year war” in the story they always talk about the 50 year war throughout the story. The game would be cool to see how things were before the first chapter of the original takes place. it would be cool to see a younger playable balbanes and since he was friends with tg cid and how dycederg zalbag and ramaza even met to become brothers.

Hey -- can there be more characters now on the roster? One of my only issues with the original game is that there were so few slots I had to release most of the characters I caught & trained. Also, where can I get it lol.
Did you not watch the video? You can bench characters and put them in reserve and there are more slots than the base version of the game as well. Check the description.
@@J7Jase That battle was a HARD game block. If you weren't ready going in your game was F'd. You could not advance or back out from that fight. Still one of the toughest out there.
@@BullsMahunny Pretty sure I fluked out, because I had leveled ramza as a summoner with very few reaction/support abilities to counter since I didn't level out my classes. Also the Elmdor fight takes like 20-30 times due to rng.
Very late to the comments section, but after years of trying to figure out how to play a modded version of FFT, I finally got this one to work. I'm so excited to see what this mod has to offer, even if it is just a port of WotL stuff into the PSX version and some QoL. Anything to be able to play one of my favorite games (and frankly one of the best games ever made).
@@J7Jase Had a slight issue opening Rendezvous chests, but I got help from the Hacktics discord and was able to get it fixed. Am currently running a female fighter and a male mage alongside whatever Ramza wants to be.
@@J7Jase The people who spend time updating games is so vast. For instance, there are people who have updated the rosters for each year for NCAA Football 14 so that we can have the correct people playing every season instead of the generic names. It takes hours, I am sure, to be able to make mods for games.

Great question it's been a while since I did the Lion War Rendezvous but I believe you can. At least from Valmafra in Brave Story. But you can also steal it in Lionel's New Liege Lord and I believe it's an item from the treasure chests at the end too.
So how do I make it look as good as this? I downloaded it on duckstation and added the lion war mod and adjusted settings to 1080p still doesn’t look close to yours in this video

While they are too fast. I don't think this is quite true. The audio seems to be off for different reasons. Even on the PSP when the ability speed is fixed, it does not fix the sound.
@@GKPB I still don't think they will sound the same as the PSX version or sound better. The sound on many things just took an overall drop in quality. I'm not quite sure what it is though.
@@J7Jase yeah there is difference between the psx version to PSP/Mobile version, since I grew playing the PSP version I honestly prefer it over psx's, I'm sure it's just all about what we got used first
I think the hardest thing for me to decide between is better audio or having the extra movies. I am leaning towards audio though. Edit: I just saw that you can add the movies to it too, so looks like there's no debate
Do you have to have the original ISO and THEN this mod in your ISO folder for PSX? Also I have PSXe is that an issue? Woudl love to re play this with some more features like this mod has!
@@J7Jase Not any. Some will not. And some versions of ePSXe are included in the emulators that aren't fine. Ironically, TLW runs on original modded hardware. Elric's response to finding out that TLW broke on certain emulators was like "how in the hell...?"

With so many different mods out now, what is your favorite? Does this one still hold up or are there more improved ones? Is the line war of lions the same as this just better?
The forum has some good step by step directions and Urcasualgamer has great and simple videos no how to setup a PSX emulator. I recommend checking them out sometime if you need help to set this up.

2:58 It sucks how useless Delita was as a guest, I used to let him attack chemist in the first chapter 1 battle for long periods to get him to level 12 and knight or monk him up with some cool abilities. A little bit of an exaggeration, he does have slightly boosted stats but his level is insufficient against someone like Wiegraf.

The translation being updated to the War of the Lions version would be amazing. I’ve seen how hard the people who made the original version tried to make it sound like old world talking. It’s actually difficult to deal with or understand.

i only played FFT PS1 version years back. I was about to download the PSP version until i saw this video. Should i play the PSP version or this PS1 mod? because from what i heard there are some plot changes on the PSP version and i was wondering if this mod includes those changes
This version has better sound while War of the Lions has better dialogue and translation. Very few minor plot changes with a few cutscenes. But they don't change the overall plot much. In fact, it makes things more clear.
To set up the emulator. I recommend watching Urcasualgamer. He has nice tutorials on how to set those up well. And then check out the FFHacktics website in the description below.
Btw, i still play FFT war of the lions but my ramza doesnt have darkness skill, no dark knight on job and different name on some items. What version is this ?

The only thing i wish they wouldn't have done or left an option is the limiting to 5 characters instead of 6. I just like to play with as many characters as I can.
@@J7Jase It actually isn't, for multiple reasons! The game's single-player design only has five deployed unit slots in the battle stats data. The only way to get 6 or more ally units in a battle is to use one of the field unit slots, which would require the mod to decide in advance which units are fielded, rather than letting the player do it. Also, those extra units would **have** to be in the party in the first place, but there's no guarantee that the player would have any unit except Ramza on their team. Also also, generic units are suuuper hard to deploy like that due to the way the game loads non-deployed units' stats from the roster. I actually don't think we've figured out a way to force that to occur yet - we can't even just copy the roster stats onto the field stats, because they're stored and set up a bit differently! Another reason is the sprite limit that exists in the PSX version. There can only be 9 unique unit spritesheets on the field at any time. Having only four enemy sprites to work with was already fairly limiting as it was when it came to porting over the Rendezvous missions - being restricted to 3 would have been awful.
It was just my default on Duckstation emulator. Sorry if it that doesn't or clarify anything. I rarely touch my emulator settings so it was the default that Duckstation came with

If you plan on playing on PC the recommended ones are Duckstation or pSX. Duckstation or Retroarch if planning to play on mobile. Great mod! I just wish it could incorporate some great QoL features that other mods have such as no random encounters on the world map (except by landing on the space), new recruits starting with some skills, and the biggest one: Cloud not joining the party at lvl 1........
Looks really cool, sad that they left Luso out, though I don't play FFTA2 much, I actually like Luso in FFTWotL, and it seems they kept Balthier, who I definitely don't like in any way, normally I just recruit him, remove his equipment, give it to Mustadio, and kick him out from the party. About Ashley, I don't care about Vagrant Story much, I even see Luso more conected, because the connections with Vagrant Story are just shoehorned because....yes. Still, the mod seems very solid and cool, I don't play mods, so I don't think I will even test it, but it is cool to see people giving this love to this fantastic game.
I played FFTA2 and did the vast majority of the post game content. I like him and the game but I wish his abilities were more unique. I feel Ashley Riot was a great addition and the battle where you recruit him, was just so well done and his skillset is quite cool. Mods can be tricky or a turn off to many but I personally think this mod is gold.
There was more enthusiasm for Ashley Riot than Luso, and Luso doesn't have much in the way of unique, signature skills even in FFTA2. But one of the biggest pushes to replace him is that he has NO unique skills in WotL. He's a Ramza clone (with free Poach), but since he joins at the tail end of Ch. 3 with almost nothing unlocked, he's super underwhelming.
Funny thing, never felt anything with the original sfx in psX version....on the other hand, hearing the Lucavi transformation in the PSP ver. gave me shivers lol, so PSP ftw

Interesting sound comparison. I’d agree that the original sounds better. WOTL’s version sounds like they focused a bit more on specific parts of the sound from the original.
Yeah the original sounds are way better. To me the WOTL's were just poor audio conversions. Who knows though.
@@J7Jase I don't play enough games WITH the audio, so I don't really ever notice the difference between original and new audio. However, I DID notice the scuffed audio for the Onimusha emulator I am using. The "Menu Fix" that I shared with you on Discord improves that part, though, as well as the overall game in the menus and such.

@@J7Jase poor audio conversions indeed. You ever put a PSX disc in a PS3? Such as Final Fantasy 7? Sounds come out broken there for certain spells.

Greatest game ever made. If this had a customization element built in, it would be perfect.
It is one of the best games for sure. I wish there were a few things about it like archers being better etc. more character dialogue from other characters like Agrias and so on. But it is my favorite of all time.

Valkirst just popped into the forums and was like "hey, I just made a newer Ashley Riot sprite" one day, basically. I don't think it was even super common knowledge that he was going to replace Luso in TLW, so it might have been just a total coincidence!

Even with the mod, there is still a lot of pixelation that the WOTL version helps fix.
To me I think it looks fine haha. Although my emulator Duckstation does make the game look nicer than vs my PSP emulator aka PPSSPP.
WotL also has the shitty slowdown and derpy sound effects. Definitely not worth it imo, which is why i made TLW...

Yes you do. Tynar Rouge is not in the game. But she gets one of the female accessories and a stat increase of 10% ish.
The Agrias event also take place at any City without Alicia and Rad being present.

that bastardization of Luso was so dirty. I guess replacing him was easier than making more unit slots. I didn't mind him being a Ramza Clone (minus the androgynous magic growth ) or what not. I liked having someone do all the Squire shit that otherwise only Ramza can do and have that at the ready than switching Ramza's class or abilities. that way my Ramza can just be the math wizard of holy destruction that I want him to be.

Funny that this mod adds Ashley from Vagrant Story, a game which I'm playing for the first time these days just bc I remembered how that game's lore is connected to Ivalice lol
I never played Vagrant Story but I know it was retconned to be part of Ivalice. Matsuno initially wanted to just have references and Easter Eggs but Square connected them. He made a tweet about it. Not sure about FFXII and the Tactics Advance games though so I don't see anything on it.

I agree. Even though I played the heck out of the first one. FFTA2 was way better in my opinion. Just wish the progression of it wasn't that slow. Otherwise enjoyed it.
What do mean with a blindfold? I’m genuinely curious what in FFTA seems so mysterious or confusing.
Personally, your description exactly fits how I feel about FFT. The Zodiac signs are one of the most important stats in the game, but to my knowledge it’s not mentioned anywhere in the game. The first time I played, I wound up with a white mage with terrible chances to hit Ramza and most of the other allies. The second time, I got soft locked at Wiegraf. I’m only now giving it a solid third try because I love FFTA and FFTA2 so much.
@@dracoerrarus4834 Probably the Law system. You can see what the Laws are in advance, AND in battle, but the need to check them, and the process of checking them, is a lot more unintuitive and annoying than it needs to be, especially considering the punishment for violating a Law can so severe, it is NEVER worth it to do so. It's a system that would literally be improved if it just flat out prevented you from violating Laws at all.
And when I say it's unintuitive and annoying, I mean because you have to go out of your way to check the Laws. It's a mechanic that can Game Over you (or permanently weaken units, or permanently lose some of your equipment) if you screw it up - why aren't illegal commands greyed out, or highlighted in red, or something?
I actually once tried to get around a "Don't Damage X Type of Unit" law by using Petrify instead, because it wasn't **damage**. Nope, my unit got Red Carded, removed from the battle, sent to jail, and had a piece of her equipment permanently lost. I literally couldn't have won that battle without taking out that unit, either, and I had no Anti-Law cards to get rid of that law with.
The original FFT has a lot of Guide Dang It stuff, but once you learn the importance of Brave and Faith, you don't need to keep going out of your way to check it to know what it's going to impact. The Zodiac compatibility also isn't particularly game-breaking in either direction. Plus, if you screw up something in relation to either of those, it's not going to result in insanely harsh punishments though. Wiegraf The Save File Killer has no excuse, though. (And it's absolutely insane to me that Square never fixed it for any version of WotL.)
@@Nyzer_ Maybe. I totally forgot you had to look up the laws, though I didn’t run into issues with the law descriptions (A2 is actually worse about that). I did actually take a few yellow cards on purpose, but only when I couldn’t remove it.
But I would disagree on Zodiac: single-digit chances to hit is game breaking and makes white mages virtually useless unless you know how to manipulate it. The positive side is that only a handful of unlucky people will start with such bad party formations.
@@dracoerrarus4834 You do not get single-digit chances to hit White Magic from Zodiac compatibility alone. You're getting that if your units' Faith is in the toilet.
This mod is amazing!!! I wish they made a 5th chapter or even just a part two to the game. And honestly I’m looking forward to the delita mod. And when are they gonna finish journey of the 5 chapter 2? It’s been soo long.
More over I think it would be super sick if they would make a final fantasy game called “the 50 year war” in the story they always talk about the 50 year war throughout the story. The game would be cool to see how things were before the first chapter of the original takes place. it would be cool to see a younger playable balbanes and since he was friends with tg cid and how dycederg zalbag and ramaza even met to become brothers.
Journey of the 5 who honestly knows. All I know is that it isn't going to be abandoned from what I know and from what the main creator has said.

I agree Yasumi Matsuno who created FFT said on a Twitter post that he would love to make the game given the chance but this was years ago. And when I tweeted him some Final Fantasy Tactics like things he didn't seem that interested or enthusiastic. But I'd love to see a game on it for sure.

Hey -- can there be more characters now on the roster? One of my only issues with the original game is that there were so few slots I had to release most of the characters I caught & trained. Also, where can I get it lol.
Did you not watch the video? You can bench characters and put them in reserve and there are more slots than the base version of the game as well. Check the description.

@@J7Jase That battle was a HARD game block. If you weren't ready going in your game was F'd. You could not advance or back out from that fight. Still one of the toughest out there.
@@BullsMahunny It totally was. I remember even having the potential to beat him, but died to RNG because he kept blocking my attacks.
@@BullsMahunny Pretty sure I fluked out, because I had leveled ramza as a summoner with very few reaction/support abilities to counter since I didn't level out my classes. Also the Elmdor fight takes like 20-30 times due to rng.
Very late to the comments section, but after years of trying to figure out how to play a modded version of FFT, I finally got this one to work. I'm so excited to see what this mod has to offer, even if it is just a port of WotL stuff into the PSX version and some QoL. Anything to be able to play one of my favorite games (and frankly one of the best games ever made).
It is why I think its the finest mod. New game plus and access to some cool abilities too is great.
@@J7Jase Had a slight issue opening Rendezvous chests, but I got help from the Hacktics discord and was able to get it fixed. Am currently running a female fighter and a male mage alongside whatever Ramza wants to be.

@@J7Jase The people who spend time updating games is so vast. For instance, there are people who have updated the rosters for each year for NCAA Football 14 so that we can have the correct people playing every season instead of the generic names. It takes hours, I am sure, to be able to make mods for games.

Great question it's been a while since I did the Lion War Rendezvous but I believe you can. At least from Valmafra in Brave Story.
But you can also steal it in Lionel's New Liege Lord and I believe it's an item from the treasure chests at the end too.

It is and 100% playable on PC. Probably the easiest way to set it up and play with.
The problem with android/iOS version is that the animations is too fast, making the sound effects weird because they finish faster as well
While they are too fast. I don't think this is quite true. The audio seems to be off for different reasons. Even on the PSP when the ability speed is fixed, it does not fix the sound.

@@GKPB I still don't think they will sound the same as the PSX version or sound better. The sound on many things just took an overall drop in quality. I'm not quite sure what it is though.
@@J7Jase yeah there is difference between the psx version to PSP/Mobile version, since I grew playing the PSP version I honestly prefer it over psx's, I'm sure it's just all about what we got used first
I think the hardest thing for me to decide between is better audio or having the extra movies. I am leaning towards audio though.

I don't think the original ISO. A PS one version ISO though. I'm not sure. I just use Duckstation. I believe any PSX/PS1 emulator will be fine.
@@J7Jase Not any. Some will not. And some versions of ePSXe are included in the emulators that aren't fine.
Ironically, TLW runs on original modded hardware. Elric's response to finding out that TLW broke on certain emulators was like "how in the hell...?"

The forum has some good step by step directions and Urcasualgamer has great and simple videos no how to setup a PSX emulator. I recommend checking them out sometime if you need help to set this up.

2:58 It sucks how useless Delita was as a guest, I used to let him attack chemist in the first chapter 1 battle for long periods to get him to level 12 and knight or monk him up with some cool abilities. A little bit of an exaggeration, he does have slightly boosted stats but his level is insufficient against someone like Wiegraf.

You can mess with the settings and change the quality. You can probably find a setting that matches perfectly to that original PSX look.

There are some things about it that are better. I prefer things like Night Sword over Sanguine Sword. But things like Dycedarg's elder brother though.

The translation being updated to the War of the Lions version would be amazing. I’ve seen how hard the people who made the original version tried to make it sound like old world talking. It’s actually difficult to deal with or understand.

Yes if you have your disc it is possible to back it up. And either the original FFT or War of the Lions without a slow down.

i only played FFT PS1 version years back. I was about to download the PSP version until i saw this video. Should i play the PSP version or this PS1 mod? because from what i heard there are some plot changes on the PSP version and i was wondering if this mod includes those changes
This version has better sound while War of the Lions has better dialogue and translation. Very few minor plot changes with a few cutscenes. But they don't change the overall plot much. In fact, it makes things more clear.

ePSXe is not recommended for this mod. Duckstation looks like a really good option, though.

The only thing i wish they wouldn't have done or left an option is the limiting to 5 characters instead of 6. I just like to play with as many characters as I can.
I'm not sure if it is possible. In the normal game, 5 is the limit. In Rendezvous each player can control 3 characters each.
@@J7Jase It actually isn't, for multiple reasons!
The game's single-player design only has five deployed unit slots in the battle stats data. The only way to get 6 or more ally units in a battle is to use one of the field unit slots, which would require the mod to decide in advance which units are fielded, rather than letting the player do it. Also, those extra units would **have** to be in the party in the first place, but there's no guarantee that the player would have any unit except Ramza on their team. Also also, generic units are suuuper hard to deploy like that due to the way the game loads non-deployed units' stats from the roster. I actually don't think we've figured out a way to force that to occur yet - we can't even just copy the roster stats onto the field stats, because they're stored and set up a bit differently!
Another reason is the sprite limit that exists in the PSX version. There can only be 9 unique unit spritesheets on the field at any time. Having only four enemy sprites to work with was already fairly limiting as it was when it came to porting over the Rendezvous missions - being restricted to 3 would have been awful.

It was just my default on Duckstation emulator. Sorry if it that doesn't or clarify anything. I rarely touch my emulator settings so it was the default that Duckstation came with

Great mod! I just wish it could incorporate some great QoL features that other mods have such as no random encounters on the world map (except by landing on the space), new recruits starting with some skills, and the biggest one: Cloud not joining the party at lvl 1........
While this is cool, the focus of the mod is to implement the War of the Lions extras into the regular FFT for the most part.
There IS a version called TLW: QoL that includes features like Smart Encounters, which handles random encounters exactly as you've mentioned.

Looks really cool, sad that they left Luso out, though I don't play FFTA2 much, I actually like Luso in FFTWotL, and it seems they kept Balthier, who I definitely don't like in any way, normally I just recruit him, remove his equipment, give it to Mustadio, and kick him out from the party.
About Ashley, I don't care about Vagrant Story much, I even see Luso more conected, because the connections with Vagrant Story are just shoehorned because....yes.
Still, the mod seems very solid and cool, I don't play mods, so I don't think I will even test it, but it is cool to see people giving this love to this fantastic game.
I played FFTA2 and did the vast majority of the post game content. I like him and the game but I wish his abilities were more unique. I feel Ashley Riot was a great addition and the battle where you recruit him, was just so well done and his skillset is quite cool. Mods can be tricky or a turn off to many but I personally think this mod is gold.
There was more enthusiasm for Ashley Riot than Luso, and Luso doesn't have much in the way of unique, signature skills even in FFTA2.
But one of the biggest pushes to replace him is that he has NO unique skills in WotL. He's a Ramza clone (with free Poach), but since he joins at the tail end of Ch. 3 with almost nothing unlocked, he's super underwhelming.
Funny thing, never felt anything with the original sfx in psX version....on the other hand, hearing the Lucavi transformation in the PSP ver. gave me shivers lol, so PSP ftw
To each their own haha. I think the vast majority of people prefer the sounds of the PSX for most abilities.
