My dad gave me his 357xp a few years ago that had a burnt piston. I bought an OEM top end, just put it together about a month ago. This is the first saw I've rebuilt. I watched Tinman and Ironhorse videos for guidance. I cleaned up the piston a little to lose a few grams of weight, and put it back together. For a mid-range size saw even with a 24" bar it surprised me. I have a 395xp I use for falling and bucking large wood but my traps and shoulders appreciate the weight of the 357 after a few hours of cutting!
I bought a 357XP new in 2004. Here in western VA it was a popular pulp wood saw. It's the best saw I own. Mine really screams. I run a 20 inch bar. Crazy that it's almost 20 years old. I'm more careful now not to put too many hours on it. Great video! Thanks for the good work!
My dads saw lineup is the husky 66 and the 357xp his 357 is his favorite though. Thing is insanely quick and high rpm screamer. First time I ran it I was used to my older vintage saws like my homelite super xl or 08s stihl and lets just say It made me add a few newer saws to my collection 371xp 372xp 395xp jonsered 2250 but I still love my old vintage collection
I bought mine crank seized up in two boxes of parts-dropped around 100 trees in 3 hours with it a month ago clearing a roadway for syrup lines. These things are beasts-
I just picked up a 359 and am soo stoked. I've been watching you since the beginning. Can't wait to see you work on the 357 and learn a few things I might be able to apply to mine. cheers from Alaska ✌️
Good video. I've run a 357XPG as my main saw for probably 15 years now. For me it's superb, totally second nature to use and opens up even more than the one in this video I reckon. Hard to tell when I'm used to hearing it through the ear defenders. Used to use a 20" bar, now I use a 16", 3/8. It suits the intricate work I mostly do and can still scream flat out through oak or elm if needed. Haven't used the 20" bar for years, when I do need more bar I have a 390XP with 30" for bigger fells or bucking.
Good video and nice saw. 357xp is very common saw here in northern europe and professional loggers used to use that model. Thank you for the tip how instal larg mount bar on small mount saw.
Nice saw. The 3 series were a great run of saws. Blue spruce can be surprisingly hard, similar to ash and oak when they all have the same moisture content. Pine is considerably softer, poplar is softer still.
I love the 60cc class saws! But I will say some of them do certain things better than others. I'm a jonsered guy and I have 2-2156's 2-2159's 2-2258's and a 2260. The 2260 is a do it all saw....it just punches way above its weight and cuts like a bigger saw. But it likes rpm. The 2159 and 2258 are the ultimate firewood saws. Light enough and powerful enough for the size firewood I cut here in NH. They're good on fuel and just plain easy to run all day. Lots of torque for 60cc. The 2156 is a different animal. It can do most any job, but where it's most at home for me and where it's my go to saw is limbing the big northeastern white pine we have here. It's light and flickable. It pulls a 24" bar just fine and is up in the rpm quickly which is what I like for a limbing saw. It sees more 4"-8" pine and brush than any other saw I've ever owned. I have a good friend that's a climber/topper and the 357xp is all he uses for the same reasons. Far more power than a 50cc saw and pretty close in weight. Also makes a great truck saw because it can do just about anything the average guy needs to do with a saw around here but for that job the 2159 or 2258 usually gets the nod.
Well that's ok. Nice saw. My dad has a 359 and I like cutting with it. More umph than my 55's but still nice and light for falling and limbing normal size trees. Would be nice to see you go at that 357 or a 55 to see where it could end up. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
Hey Tinman Can't speak highly enough of these saws. Got 2x 357 XPG's here the power to weight ratio is hard to beat. I run 24" Tsumura. 325 chain,👍love the channel and content, always learning from you👍
I'm in the process of getting a busted 357xp to fix. And I'm looking forward for you to port yours first haha. I plan to remove the gasket and raise the exhaust roof to 100 and keep the blowdown the same. Maybe lower the intake, or not. Have a good day Tinman!
My memory may not be serving me but it seems like that saw was sold with a .325 bar & chain here in the Eastern part of Tennessee we have a variety of very hard wood
Yes they where sold with the .325 as standard setup from the factory but Husqvarna offered two options at the dealer level if a customer wanted, because they had two different clutch drum's for them in both .325 and 3/8'' rim drive and I have both OEM drum's for my saw's.
She Cuts Eh! That muffler mod made that saw run and sound way better. I ran my 572 with a 28” bar all weekend and my arms were feeling it by the end of the day.
i have 359 and 357 and i run 357 more i like the high rpm saws i have ms290 to pretty sure there same cc as 357 and i think 357 smokes my ms290 only thing i dont care for is the small mount bare on 357 and 359 but i probly run my 357 80 percent more then my ms290 and ms310 cant wait to see what you do with the 357 tinman the othe small husqvarna saw that is crazy and light right out the box is the 50cc husky 550
You're looking particularly healthy and happy today in the sun, get on. That saw looks ridiculous (in a good way) with the 28. Looking forward to the day you find a 254 (and a new 262)
They are lil screamers. My 2011 357 with a 16" 3/8" bar would hang with 570 Husky's and do it burning a lot less gas and weighing quite a bit less. Pulls a 16 like my 394 pulls a 36! 😂
Don't forget the red sister saw's the Jonsered 2156/357xp and 2159/359 all great saw's regardless of the color, you could call them the quad pack family in that series so to speak.
Hello from Romania! I would like to ask you if it is possible to mount a chrome segment to a chrome cylinder to a husky chainsaw 345. what happens? does more wear appear on the cylinder? I mention that the chainsaw is stock, I only use it occasionally and for light work. your videos are great!
I got a 262xp and would like to port it some. I have not checked the duration yet, but I saw some info that the intake is only 138 deg duration stock. I am open for suggestions on what durations should work. I run a 24” on it. I do not want to loose torque to much
Tinman, I want you to now visualise the nimbleness of that saw with the power of one of your full house 272's. There is a bit of stuffing around involved, but it can be done... Go on... You know you want to! 😃😃😃
I got rid of the crank stuffers in my 357xp. It'll still scream limbing and it's power curve is much broader. A lot better in big hardwood. I run a 20" bar 3/8 chain and cut mostly hard maple and ash. I really wish husky would of made them a true 60cc.
Spruce can be a son of a gun to cut. Watched a 62” circular saw blade one time completely loose tension hitting a pitch pocket in frozen spice in winter once. Maybe the scariest thing I’ve seen….
Very easy to wield, almost surgical. Spins up crazy fast. Pulls a 3/8 full chisel chain pretty much flat out through anything. I used a couple of longer bars on my 357xpg but have used a 16" for the last 10 years at least. It just does it all for me. Have a big saw for times I need a long bar but I only switch to that when absolutely necessary.
Hey tinman is there a way to separate the muffler on one of those to gut it without destroying it I have a 359 and the muffler is terrible I was thinking of prying the seem open all the way around have you ever done that ?
tim my455 Ranchero the muffler and ben running great but today when it got warm it started boring turn high screw to the all the way help a lot but getting worse again help new plug and strainer lines all good

I've bucked up about 150 cords of boiler wood with my 357XP. Been a really good saw. I put a Jeremy Bell (Bellhopper) muffler on mine.
Glad that you made it down to the show. Have a great time and enjoy meeting many of your viewers.

"Wouldn't be fair to the little 357...." You really are a great man!👍🙌
I bought the same saw with full wrap heated bars and triple port muffler for 10$ o one of my favorite smaller saws

My uncle that tought some of wood cutting and filing, used nothing but that 357xp for truck loads of tree each year
Port the 357 and see what it’s like after… they are amazing saws!!
A have afew macs for backup and my main firewood saw is a 2009 357xp
Awesome little saw

Just subbed. Great video. I heard your name from Buckin'. Looking forward to checking more of your videos. Thank you.
Never paid them much attention until the last year or so that they gained huge popularity online and here. Never ran one but hope to change that!

Always glad to see a new video from tinman! Learnt a lot from this channel. 🤙🤙
The 357xp is an awesome little saw, my boss has one and they just rip
18 inch bar on mine ripped back then

Need a little help? Will a full wrap handle from a 362xp fit the 357XP? Also will the full wrap for the 272xp fit the 262xp? thanks
Nice little saw for med size wood, it seems. A couple of pounds sure makes a difference at the end of the day.

O Machado e a Motosserra
Entraram junto no mato pra mostrar a serventia
A motosserra roncava machado velho tinia
E naquele matagal foi só cavaco de pau pó de serra que subia
E esse grande duelo deste jeito é que termina
Na briga das ferramentas o machado é que domina
Motosserra parou cedo ali no tronco da quina
Machado seguiu cortando mata grossa e mata fina
Motosserra impotente rebentou sua corrente acabou a gasolina
It’s really hard to beat 60 cc class saw
Its like a 365
I need to get my 272xp runin right cause my 357xp is just as good
How's the Tinman and family
Doin great
Rekon 20 inch bar max on em'
Better than a stihl 261 I bet.
Yes more power, which for me is worth the little bit of extra weight.
I agree, one of my favorites was a white top husky 61, we cut hard wood, birch etc, pulping too,and the old saw was handed down. amazing.@@tinmanssaws
