I’ve been a follower of both of you since the pandemic. I can see both hitting it off you both have positive personalities. I’m glad it happened so much fun .
Hi @bigdave5946 Thank you for following along! We're happy to share our experiences with others.
Paul.. You are kind of my hero & i've been watching you for a few years.. This interview is one of your better ones.. I'm almost 83 years old & my dream is to have an interview with you.. I'm married to a filipino for 14 years now.. There is a 32 year age gap between us but we are still strong.. My hope is i live long enough to live full time in the Philippines.. Keep on doing what you're doing what you are.. Go cat go.....
Love to see the interview
Hi @BillyCarmack Thanks, means a lot coming from you! I'm glad you enjoyed the interview. Hopefully, our paths will cross soon. Best regards.
I have lived in the Philippines for a total of 9 years, and really non stop for 6 years in Mindanao. I am writing this from my room in Pattaya, Thailand. I have lived for 4 years in Thailand in total. I live here because of financial issues, but I am SO happy that I will soon return to Mindanao and meet my wife and my boy again.
Thailand is a great place to stay for a couple of weeks, but nothing can beat the friendliness of the Filipinos.
Stuff is WAY cheaper here in Thailand than in the Philippines, all from rentals to groceries.
Summer is here now in Thailand, and I have no Airconditioner (not allowed here due to the electrical setup that can not handle AC), so I am basically living in the shower here, buying ice and putting it in the air cooler that I have here.
There are so many sexy ladies here in Thailand but they are way out of my League. In the Philippines the young sexy women love me, so I feel like a Rock Star over there. Here in Thailand I am a nobody.
Hi @vikingrogaland2844 Thanks for sharing your experience! We love the Filipino culture and friendliness too. Stay cool in Pattaya!
Oh my gosh!! Almost at 100k subscribers! How exciting!!! 💜
Hi @oliviar267 Thanks for your excitement! We're thrilled too!
You guys are LIVING life at the fullest!!! Great interview 👍
Hi @jackbear4528 Thanks, we're loving every moment of it!
Welcome back Ritchie. I began my southeast Asia journey in Hong Kong, but Philippines is where I found myself again.
Always watching you, even when I was in Africa.
Appreciate you!!! 💯🙌🏽
I picked Thailand, specifically Chiang Mai, for several reasons. It feels more like Asia, if you know what I mean. Some of the best motorcycling in the world. Medical care is top notch. There is more history and, hate to say it, but it's cleaner. Of course the food and coffee culture also. Don't get me wrong, I love the Philippines, but for me Thailand comes up on top.
I live in Chiang Mai and know how you feel!😊
You are right about everything you stated and and I have lived in the Philippines over 33 years now but my heart is still there in Thailand............

Another great thing about the Philippines is that you can stay on a tourist visa for 3 years, take a Thai vacation, and get another 3 years.
Hi @therehastobesomethingmoore That's a great strategy! We've done it ourselves, actually.
Old Dog and Richie Mac, it doesn’t get much better than this! What a surprise collab!

Hi @HexFlex-ss9rm Thanks, mate! Glad you enjoyed the video!
It's not about the weather, I'm 55 and live in Phoenix, AZ and it's 90 to 120 degrees 8 months of the year!...it's about in all honestly the woman you like and the life style and the comfort of living and medical care is the most important regardless!
Hi @LoveScottland Well said! Lifestyle, women, and medical care are key factors for many expats. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
Wow, my two best guy in the world.
Totally agree, two of my favorites channels. Great information. Great entertainment

Hi @PaulOviews Thanks, appreciate your feedback!
My azz is in route Paul. I will be part of the 10% that arrives and thrives. Thank you for my first and most important consultation sir. Be there in 7 days.🎉
What a fun interview! 😂🤣
You’ve met your match in humor, Paul. But I’ll stay here in the Philippines ❤️🇵🇭👍
Hi @jerrymarshall2728 Thanks for watching and enjoying the interview! We're loving it here too!
HI PAUL , EXCELLENT INTERVIEW. He seems like a nice funny guy.
Not that anybody cares BUT MEDICAL issues are STOPPING me from being there.
I have said this before , your channel and a few others , make my day HAPPY.

GOD BLESS CIAO
Hi @nottelling620 Thanks for watching and enjoying the interview! Sorry to hear about medical issues holding you back.

Great video. And Paul with the shoutout to Coffeyville Kansas! I was surprised to hear that he knew where it's at. :)
Hi @ericg9092 Appreciate the love for Coffeyville, Kansas! We're glad to represent our hometown in this corner of the world.
Hey Paul, how are you? I enjoy your content. Keep up the good work brother 🐸🤗
Thank you, I will
Good points about the weather and tourist seasons starting at 16:13. Those two are not often mentioned as disadvantages of Thailand vs the PI.
Hi @samiam8114 Thanks for pointing that out! Weather and tourist seasons can be a big factor in expat life. We've definitely noticed that difference here in Dumaguete.
The Philippines will catch up in time give it time guys leave the U.S. lets build a better world overseas lets not destroy their culture live and embrace their culture
Yah, the Philippines will catch up in about another 20 - 30 yrs or so.
If PI can setup and market their visas towards westerners looking to make the move they will catch up sooner than later. Thailand visas are slowly becoming harder and more expensive.
The Philippines is great but will not "catch up"...... don't be ignorant to the facts
Philippines will catch up if we get rid off the Current president …corruption is back sadly
You need the patience of Job to live in the Philippines, if you easily get upset, it is definitely not for you. Anything you can do in a few minutes and in 1 visit in the US, might take you 2 or 3 weeks and multiple visits in the Philippines...
Sorry sir, closed. Sorry po, no change. Brownout. No appointments only earliest time to be seen, better get there 2 or 3 hours before. No water today, sometimes several days, do you want to get up at 4 and store water every couple days to bathe and flush toilet? After a typhoon you won't have wifi or cell for weeks. It just goes on and on and on. If you are easy going, can deal with that and you can plan well around it, you will be fine, if not, go to Thailand or Vietnam.
😎👍🇺🇲
My thoughts exactly.
I'd like to bounce back and forth whenever the mood strikes me.
Go take advantage of what each countries has to offer.
The Phils to relax and recuperate at a nice little homebase.
Thailand for the food, exploration and so on.
( Yes I know the Philippines has a million things to see and experience, but I can just say "food" 😁)
Cheers to yhe both of you from Fluffy in the PNW Seattle WA area.
✌️
Another great interview! I say go wherever you can find love or your soulmate. Both countries have pros vs cons. Family is also very important.
Great video and the points made were a bullseye in my book.
I was 49 when i landed in the Philippines, one month later i turned 50. This move was the single most best birthday present to myself. Even more so than the home i had bought myself in America. I didn't think life could get any better than being a paid in full home owner; boy was i wrong! I would rather live in a hut here vs a mansion there. Improving my health from work related hazards and my social life was paramount, and ✔️✔️. This May ill be 51 and I'm happily dating a young kind hearted smoke show with a high sense of traditional family values. They way most of these young ladies think about life just hits differently. Far from the dysfunction and abstract dating agendas i had grown to expect living in the U.S. 50 years later you'll turn and ask yourself, where did it go and what has it gained me? But here i live day by day happier than ever 😎 no questions asked and no regrets.
Hi @Max-oi9es Thanks for sharing your amazing story! We're glad to hear you've found happiness in the Philippines.

You guys are awesome 😎. What you both are talking about is so true. Thanks for such a great interview with great questions and answers!
Hi @andreasjohnson9041 Thanks for watching and we're glad you enjoyed the video!
Here in Thailand we are officially 3 weeks into the hot season. Even Thais complain about the heat. For me, I’m fine with the climate all year long. Seven years later I still am repelled from the the damp chilly foggy climate of the San Francisco Bay Area. The tropical climate was one of the draws to SE Asia.
Everyone points to the December-February high season but I actually prefer and love the June-November rainy season. This is when Thailand is lush and green with blue skies with puffy white clouds ☁️ except for the Biblical downpours which seldom last more than an hour.
Hi @martypoll Love the enthusiasm! We're glad you enjoy the rainy season in Thailand, it's definitely a unique charm of the tropical climate.
Interesting contrasts. I love both countries. Both are beautiful and have beautiful people. Great interview Paul. Retired Working for You is an excellent channel for everything Thailand

Great to see you guys enjoying life. I'm going to arrange a golf time for both when I get there. I can't wait.

03:42 That's exactly the vibe I get from Pattaya.
There is also Vietnam. Only thing is no retirement visa (yet) but you can currently renew the 90 day indefinitely. There are expats living there and doing that.
Yes! I gotta get to Vietnam!

Hi @mikealsleben4671 Thank you! We feel blessed to be a part of this wonderful country!
The Air in Thailand is Toxic in the winter "Burning Season" & is "not good / great" in the Phil, but a lot better than Thailand ..
The air here in the Philippines is really bad as well , all year . The streets are dirty , the beaches are not white sand , the ocean has many rocks and you will need water shoes , most beaches have litter and plastic bottles all over , hopefully this will change , it can be a beautiful place
@@KingBeeStackerwhich beach you have been to? Do you been to El Nido Palawan? El Nido has 15 white sand beaches...Nacpan Beach, Lio Beach, Duli Beach etc. In Coron 11 white sand beaches, Boracay island has 24 white beach in total. There are so many islands with white sand beaches in the Philippines. Google it...dont be ignorant.
Hi @enzos711 Thanks for sharing your experience! We've noticed improvements in air quality here in Dumaguete too.
@@KingBeeStacker I checked AQI, SE Asia all winter and "Generally Speaking" (though not good) Phil was "noticeably better" than other SE Asian countries ..

Good vlog Paul, Zooms a nice guy.
Hi @Dave_Tae Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
What a nice part of the world you live in? seems to be all easy going. Love it. Compared to live in the States or Europe its paradise.
I consider overseas retirement a backup option if I can’t make it work in the USA.
Hi @HowardAbraham Good backup plan, indeed!
For me, here is the difference between the Philippines and Thailand. Both offer a cheaper cost of living compared to most developed countries like US or those in Western Europe. It’s easier for older men to find a long term companion in the Philippines than Thailand. However, if you want a better quality of life, Thailand is the better choice.
I would love to relocate to the Philippines but at this time I need to care of my elderly mother.
Richi Mac and Paul two legends
Right now I'm looking at moving to Thailand. I just have not been able to get the information I need about The Philippines. Also, every single vlogger in The Philippines is living the "suburban" lifestyle where driving is a requirement. There are vloggers in Thailand who live without a car or scooter.
You really need to make an exploratory visit for a month+ to make a decision about where to settle down.
@@martypoll I figure that if I move to Thailand, I can make trips to The Philippines much more easily. I was able to figure out the logistics of going to Thailand ahead of time while I still don't know much about The Philippines.
I am living in the philippines for the past 1.5 yrs. Don't own a car or a scooter. I use Jeepneys and Trycycles 90 % of the time, with the occasional taxi. I also walk a great deal more than when I was in the US. You can easily get by here with out owning either. I save a lot of money . The transportation here is so cheap.
Hi @mattlawrence7130 We're glad you're considering the Philippines! Our life here is quite different from the suburban vibe, and we don't own a car either. We get around on foot or by tricycle. You should give us a try!
Gotta love the Thai language. So many words are the same but depending upon your pronunciation it will have a different meaning. Glai… could be near or far depending on tone. Food ? Not a big fan. Some dishes are ok. Same in the Philippines. But in the Philippines I can go to the store and get familiar ingredients and cook my own food. So. That’s a win. Pick your battles. For me… that means no partner and no relationship and no marriage. Freedom is way too important for this guy!!!!
Hi @L4P-Monk I feel you on the food freedom! We've got great local markets here in Dumaguete, too. Thanks for sharing your experience!
That was great interview.
BUT. When it comes to beautiful faces , it's Philippines hands down !
Just been to Thailand, specifically Phuket and Bangkok, I am Filipino and US citizen also, I may be bias but I think Philippines is much better than Thailand. Overall, Philippines is better culturally, their beaches are dirty even far away from the cities. Patong beach is dirty, would not dare to dip at all, there's so much sex trade there, looks like morality is degraded. Communication is hard. Philippines definitely can be a comfortable home.
Hi @joanlavarias6705 Thanks for sharing your perspective! We agree that the Philippines has its own unique charm.
Zoom to paul...😅
Wow legendary interview
Hi @ruel_1 Thanks!

Thank you Paul for bringing us the content you do. Just wandering if you ever go fishing. If you do, can we get some content on that. If you don’t, is there someone you could interview on your channel about it. I’m a fisherman and interested. Thank you. Kevin
You forgot one of the most important differences, the Philippines has a totally different culture then the other SEA countries
Hi @roger.b8046 Great point! We've definitely experienced that difference firsthand, and it's something to consider when choosing between the two destinations.
He bought a condo in Hookerville and lives with a working girl. Gosh, so surprised!
Haters will hate . Some Jealousy? You know what I do which is a gift everyone should give themselves, I just agree with them it's just not even worth responding. Isn't this crazy. You try to figure people out why they so so much hate and shade? I think that's the world's greatest question. I study psychology. I try to phrase things in questions, but some people, you just got to step back and actually have empathy for them what a sad life to spend so much time focusing on putting people down. And I don't even waste my time to dig into their garbage. I'm sure there's so much but it's not worth my time. I don't let them rent space in my brain. I charged too much rent lol. Dude why don't you work on yourself. These guys are awesome. And the sad thing is this dude. I'm responding to is going to now try to look up anything on me which is fine. Wow! What a waste of energy. It's actually I feel bad for the dude who I'm responding to right now. Hey Paul and zoom. Keep up the outstanding work. Love you guys! Let me just make this guy more pissed off by complimenting you over and over and over again lol. I love it. Let's not see now. I'm being mean and I'm I'm trying to torture this guy. It's not very hard. But anyways dude throwing shade at these guys. You such a waste of energy. Why don't you start working on yourself? Get a freaking job, get a hobby, go out rescue animals go out and do a make a nice positive channel of what you're doing to change the world or help people or rescue animals or something proactive instead of focusing your freaking life on throwing people under the bus. What a concept you think he could try? Hey look, spend 90% of the solution 10% of the challenge and or problem. And we all look at y'all who throw shaded people and we kind of have a soft spot for you cuz you're like so freaking miserable. You never focus on making yourself a better person. Why not, make a channel of some good stuff you do. I challenge you. Are you up for the challenge? Gods delays or not? Gods denials when the student is willing to teach, you will appear. This guy love's throwing shade. I feel bad bro what miserable life. I'm so sorry. That type of person breaks my heart actually

I love Thailand. Been there 3 times. But it has by far the worst retirement visa ever. Cambodia is best followed by the Philippines.
Hi @wesgraham2262 Appreciate your insight, we've had great experiences here in the Philippines!â‚ï¸
You know what would be 3 good topics for a video? 1. Passive income from the US. All the videos I see seem to be from guys who worked at a job, and one day just sold everything, called up their pensions, social security, 401K or whatever, and moved. But what about those of us who didn't have a 9-5 and are running a business (which can be done mostly but not completely remotely) and we don't want to sell it, rental properties, other assets with generate passive income (on top of social security, pensions or whatever)... what do we do with those??? Do we sell our business, rental properties, and give up our security and future security that we will pass on to our Filipina wives? And if we don't sell it all, and we bequeath it to them when we die, do they move to the US to live or sell our crap when we die? 2. Travel back and forth to the US to visit family/deal with the aforementioned passive income generators - flights back and forth between the US - Philippines are crazy expensive! If I need to come back to the US to deal with a business, rental properties, etc... 3-4X per year and spend $6-8K just on flights alone, that eats away some savings of living in the Philippines, it would seem. And, 3. What do you do about your friends and family in the US? Do you just say "see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya!" to them? You don't visit family for Xmas, Thanksgiving? I don't have any kids, but what about your kids? Their milestones, graduations, marriages, divorces, etc.. Do you just pretty much disappear from everyone who has ever been in your life, adopt your wife's family as your own, make friends with some other ex-pats and just... die? So, that's 3 things that I really want to know, for realz y'all.
I would say yes it might be difficult to run a business in your country while living abroad. Maybe living abroad is not for you. Like anywhere, you need to be able to afford to live where you live. If you want to fly home then you need to be able to afford the air fares. Yes we leave family & friends behind. Many of simply don’t have close enough connections to their family & friends to worry about being in our home country. I have one sister and a few close friends that I visit once per year. There are lots of considerations to living abroad. Expat life isn’t for everyone. Paul is probably correct - 90% of the people watching his videos will never move abroad.
@@martypoll Thanks! Excellent points. There are thousands of digital nomads roaming the world working for companies based in the US, UK, EU countries, etc.. so I know running a business remotely is doable. I'd say I've done it, but only about 85-90% I was looking for advice on how to do it closer to 100%, maybe my questions sounded like criticism rather than genuinely seeking a point of view. Same for the family/friends question. I have no kids, I'm not ex-military, I don't keep in touch with my ex-wife, and I have friendships all over the world so I was looking for a take on how other people's perspective on family/friendships when living abroad, since I know I'm in the minority with folks my age (58). Most ppl my age have a couple ex-wives, grandkids, veteran buddies, what-have-you. When my mom lived, I was closer to her living 3,000 miles away than my brothers who lived in the same town! I spoke with her 2-3x per week while she would go months without talking to my brother who lived less than 5 miles from her house. And about what to do with your properties/investments - well, I've watched enough videos about ex-pats about the importance of having an "exit strategy", whatever "exit" you decide to take, so I'm looking for that perspective. If a Filipino girl is marrying you because you offer security and stability, and she offers beauty and youth and a chance for a second act, and you sell away your assets and eventually go broke (that's an extreme example, because, you know, social security and pensions and stuff), then where is that security for her when you're gone? Pensions and social security stop when pass away. And if you're 50, 60, 70 years old it behooves you to have an exit strategy since (best case scenario), you've only got 20-40% of your life left. If she takes care of you in your old age, shouldn't you take care of her when you're gone? I was looking for a perspective on that end. Anyway, these are probably too-difficult topics for ppl to discuss, especially as topics for videos that are trying to entice you to move to the Philippines, so they won't want to Debbie-downer down you, so we'll leave it at that. Thanks again!
Hi @Elgranchampion1 Thanks for the suggestions! We'll consider doing a video on passive income strategies for entrepreneurs like yourself who are building businesses in the Philippines.
Need to here about average people that have resources that have he does
Hi @dalesmit Thanks for watching! We focus on everyday life in Dumaguete, not expat retirement in Thailand. Maybe check out our other videos?

Hey Paul, what percentage of Expats in the Philippines do you think our Republican and what percentage are Democrats?
Someone told me a huge number of Expats are Republicans is that true?
I know Mark is more libertarian.
I just wonder how many of these guys bring their politics to the Philippines, and don’t leave them behind. I haven’t traveled yet, but I plan on leaving my politics in the rearview mirror.
I am an American expat in Thailand and I have found expats from America and Europe, Australia, New Zealand leave their political views behind. We have many more things in common about being expats to bother with the crap back in our countries of origin. I have met far more varied and interesting people because of this.
@@martypoll that’s awesome thanks for sharing! That’s what I’m looking to do. I’m tired of the politics. I don’t even want to hear the little jabs against different political parties I could care less. Keep your vote to yourself just like the old days. My father is 89 years old. He can’t believe how everyone spouts their political opinions he says back in the day you could be sitting with all your buddies having a beer and no one talked about politics. He says, turned into a c- word.
Especially when they wear their political swag, to silently voice, their opinion .
Personally, I’m a veteran and I don’t wanna walk around being a patriot in a foreign country. I think it looks bad Douchey!
It’s almost like a tough guy if he’s truly tough, he don’t say shit!
Good plan. You may find that in other countries its not so clear cut... dem or repugnant, caputalist or communist, good guy or bad guy etc. You cant put every1 in a box like that.
Hi @MikeHoncho884 Not sure about exact percentages, but from my experience, most expats here are open-minded and apolitical, focusing on their new life and community rather than political affiliations.
Amusing back and forth here. Bangkok can be cold 🥶 sometimes.

Hi @AidaJof Thanks for the kind words! Means a lot to me.
Funny 😆 I also had a Gilligan’s Island experience. I was just visiting a friend who retired to Thailand and I fell in love with the place immediately. 2015. The cliche response was returning to the US and immediately booking my next trip to Thailand. I moved to Bangkok in 2017 after three month long tourist trips. Married a Thai woman, lived in Bangkok 6 years, built a house in Isaan in 2022, and have been living in the countryside for 14 months.
I agree with your guest. Thailand handled Covid pretty darn well, not perfect, but I am glad I was here rather than the US.
Not mentioned but important to me is the religious cultural differences between Thailand and the Philippines. I am non-religious. It was a surprise to me how nice it was to be in a Buddhist, that is non-Christian, culture. I didn’t think about the Christian religious background to the US until I was immersed in the nonjudgmental Buddhist culture of Thailand. In a Catholic country the holidays would repel/bore me. Here in Thailand they are colorful, vibrant and interesting. Different strokes for different folks.
Hi @martypoll Thanks! We've enjoyed our experience with Filipino culture too!
Wow! Paul, I just loved this collaboration… you two are my favorite vloggers and you guys really seemed to feed off of each other. I loved every minute of it!👊🏽
Hi @sassinthepius Thank you so much! We're glad you enjoyed the collab!
Can't believe you got Zoom to Thailand vlogger on your show! Dude has an outstanding channel and his personality is hilarious. Good to see you're doing well.
Probably the most honest down to earth interview. I live full time in Thailand for the reasons mentioned. However, the Philippines has the most friendly English speaking Filipinos. The weather is about 10° overall cooler. Humidity is tough when it's 93° daytime & cools to 87° at night in Thailand.
The Filipina women are hard working and willing to relocate. Thailand women generally prefer Thailand to stay life long.
Hi @lostinasia25 Thanks for the kind words! We agree, Filipino hospitality is unmatched.
Hey Paul, I’ve commented on several of your videos and first off. I agree with you 90% of people that are watching that I’ll never be over there now. I’ve been to Thailand eight times and I’ve written it off I I can’t speak their language I’m constantly putting my foot in my mouth. Do I think they have a better infrastructure yes do I think they havebetter medical facilities yes do I think the food is better? Yes, but the Philippines is where I’m gonna be.
Always the language barrier cause humans generally are social beings.
