Kinda glad you did this one as I’ve only seen it one other time. I’ve seen the New Wave version many times - the chorus is more prominent and he holds that last note for the duration of the music! But he does those cool ethnic trills in this one - maybe because it was a competition and he was younger? The Kazakh folk instrument is a kobyz. You probably already know by now. 😅
New wave version is unfortunately playback (at least partially). Nothing away from king Dimash, he definitely can sing it. It's still phenomenal performance. It was song premiere so it had to be perfect. That's how the music business just works. He has a contract for Igor's songs, which obliges him to perform them in a pre-arranged manner. Sometimes live, sometime not. No hate.
This is the instrument you are asking about- it can heard in a lot of Dimash songs. Kobyz (kyl-kobyz) is a sacred instrument embodying the spiritual world of a nomad.
Saludos 😊
The instrument is the Kobyz (sp?) a Kazakh instrument. Dimash tries to use these instruments in his projects. I believe he convinced Igor to use the instrument. Please correct me, DEARS. ☺️ In the original song, you will see his friend playing the Kobyz. Again, your explanation of how he sings this song, is always a wonderful learning moment with you. thank you!
Dimash 👑🎶🎤

The other version is slightly different. I feel his vocal control was better in this performance but there is still a wow factor in the other one. Nice react Sir Hairless! I’m hoping you decide to react to Ikanaide. It’s a Japanese song that he just knocks outta the world (but what songs doesn’t he). The emotion in Ikanaide moved me to tears. Please please please react to this. Again, loving your vids. Keep them coming. ❤❤
Yes, the comparison will be very interesting. You will have understood by now - if not immediately! - that Dimash not only was born with a natural gift, but has been applying 'olympic gold medal standard' discipline and training to his vocal development. An essential part of this has been his body work. He has explained in interview that he regularly does martial arts for both fun and core body strength, and also swims as much as he can to maintain and develop his lung capacity, { I'm pretty convinced that he, like the old deep sea pacific pearl divers, could sprint underwater along the sea bed for 5 minutes at a time - on the one breath! 😵💫} The instrument is the Kazakh KOBYZ. Originally carved of one piece of local wood with 2 horsehair strings and a goat skin lined 'sounder'; the KOBYZ is a very ancient example of several similar instruments of that region, believed to be the forerunners of most of our modern stringed instruments today. Playing of the KOBYZ was restricted to Shamans / Medicine Men, as It's sound was believed to have the power to banish evil spirits and heal the sick. Dimash insisted on it's inclusion into this composition and it's sound certainly does add immeasurably to the whole atmosphere of the piece. Olzhas Kurmanbek is widely regarded as the foremost KOBYZ Player in the country, and is a close friend of Dimash's. They collaborate on the composition of many of his works.
Thank you for your wonderful analysis and explanations! I know nothing about music theory, and I've greatly enjoyed learning little tee bits with you as you react to Dimash. I'm loving your reactions because of this!
Love your breakdowns. To see more of the Kobyz and a native shepherd's flute I recommend Samaltau from the Tokyo Jazz Festival. It was during lock down and live streamed from his home studio. A Kazakh song about a young man conscripted by the Russian army forced to march away from all he knows leaving elderly parents to fend alone. The Kobyz master is in several of Dimash's videos. It is a 5000 year old, two stringed instrument used by shamans in past ages. In Samaltau you will hear it create the sounds of farm animals, wolves, birds and wind over the steppes. Without understanding a word you can understand all of it. My favorite at this time.
Yeah, Samaltau is such a fantastic showcase of the traditional side of his repertoire. I really look forward to seeing your reaction and analysis of it.
Thank you for your professional analysis of Dimash’s performance of the composition Stranger. This gives great pleasure, especially to amateurs like me.💖
I must admit that this was musically complex and showed off his vocal skills very well. HOWEVER, I also feel that this approach caused the powerful story of the song to get lost. I personally strongly prefer the original version of his performance where the lyrics and lessons of the song took center stage. Shockingly different for sure. I think this is the first performance from Dimash, out of hundreds I have seen, that I did not particularly enjoy.
BTW in this performance he changed the original composition (in the middle of the son) he had to do it cuz this composition required each one of them to give his best vocals and as Dimash known by his wide vocal range he did what he did here , he crushed it even when he was ill, that’s why the other one is a-must.
Thank you again for a very interesting and educational reaction. You were already told that the instrument is an ancient 2 stringed instrument called Qobyz. Sure you will see a bit more of it at Stranger New Wave but you get a much better impression of it when you react to the music video of the song „Qairan Elim“ which I want to recommend anyway for a reaction.
Can't really go wrong with a piece performed by Dimash, written for him by Igor Krutoy, reacted to by Sir Hairless... "Are you not entertained?!" We are, thank you!
An interesting note: Stranger ~ composed by Igor Krutoy ~ lyrics by Sharon Vaughn. Sharon Vaughn is an American composer/lyricist who is in the Country Music Hall of Fame. One of her more famous songs is "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys", made famous by Waylon Jennings and again by Willie Nelson.
Yes, virtually all of her previous songs were written for country artists. I've never known how it is that she was involved with this one. Perhaps the lyrics were originally written for someone else?
@@richardabbott1173 Thank you! I can't find any information for that connection but I will look further. All I have ever seen about Vaughn is her connection to country music---which, incidentally, is my least favorite genre. But I love "Stranger!"
Instrument? Kobyz. Really, really old. Maybe 5000 years. From Dimash's region. Made from one piece of wood. Maybe a goat skin stretched over the sound cavity. 2 horsehair strings. Horsehair bow. No frets, no fingerboard. All floating harmonics. Very hard to control. Playing it with an orchestra to orchestral tuning expectations is a small miracle.

Hello my friend SirHairless, thank you for sharing your incredible knowledge with us. Qobyz is a two string Kazakh instrument, which, for me, is the best instrument I've ever heard, don't know why, it touches me so deeply. Amazing reaction and analysis, as always. (I'm not gonna bother you with more comments as in your previous video 😬😂). Take care.
You'll also get a good look/listen with the kobyz in Dimash's performance of Samaltau, recorded at the Tokyo Jazz Festival. It's a Kazakh folk song, and one of my Dimash favorites. I'm not sure of the name of the Kazakh musician who plays the kobyz for Dimash, but he's incredible. This is the first I've seen this performance, and I can tell that Dimash is off a little bit, and read from other comments that he was sick. The New Wave version is the Dimash-standard performance of Stranger.
It is interesting to see this version while having watched the New Wave version much more often. The stringed instrument is the traditional two stringed Qobyz (kobyz) , which is played similarly to the cello. (I would love to try a Qobyz!) The New Wave version was the premiere and featured the Qobyz more predominantly. Different choices vocally and a different type of drama from Dimash. As always, enjoyed the reaction! Cheers from Canada!
Thank you for your reactions to Dimash's work. He is truly unique. But I would like to offer you to listen to another incredible vocalists. This is a group of 4 singers, each of them has a very unique voice, but when they sing together, it's something out of the world. The band is called Forestella. And I advise you to start with songs Lazenca, Je Suis Malade. I would be very grateful for your reaction to these incredible singers.
¡ Gracias, gracias, GRACIAS ?
The instrument is a Kobyz. An old and revered traditional Kazakh instrument. It is made from one solid piece of wood, with the body covered with goat hide, and the two strings are made of horse hair.
Another great reaction and analysis. The stringed instrument you were listening to was the Koby’s which Dimash features a lot in his arrangements ❤️❤️❤️
🌍 His generation is the FIRST IN OVER A THOUSAND YEARS to grow up in a free sovereign state (1991). From Genghis Kahn to Soviet barbed wire labor camps, his country was invaded, subjugated and ruled by outsiders, forced to keep their language, customs and traditions secret and pass them down, they are PASSIONATE about them and their nation and the reason you see Dimash, and others, at the forefront of their industries, keeping Qazakhstan and its rich cultural traditions uppermost in the work they present to the world at large.

I love Dimash. He is the best singer in the whole world ever. I feel so very sorry that he was sick 😢. I hope he is feeling good now. I wish him all the best🙋🏻♀️😘❤️
Gracias
Thank you for your wonderful master class with this master!!!!
Some people think he was ill here but i think it's just was live performance while New Wave version was lypsinc
Both
You really should do the New Wave version of Stranger. It is possibly the best performance of any song in his career so far.
I can't wait to get round to it!
Saludos 😊
No problem! I just hope that they are accurate haha!
@@SirHairless 🥰🥰🥰
The instrument is the Kobyz (sp?) a Kazakh instrument. Dimash tries to use these instruments in his projects. I believe he convinced Igor to use the instrument. Please correct me, DEARS. ☺️ In the original song, you will see his friend playing the Kobyz. Again, your explanation of how he sings this song, is always a wonderful learning moment with you. thank you!
Stunning !!! ❤❤❤
"Love is like a Dream" please! Listen to the original first to enjoy the contrast. Composed by Igor.
If you're curious about Dimash's highest note that he sang live, please react to a song he wrote when he was 19, Unforgettable Day (not in English). The note is a D8 and is off the piano: th-cam.com/video/u52XDilf628/w-d-xo.html
check out dimash sing unforgettable day you will hear his dog whistle D8 I believe. Its really something to see.
Yes, the comparison will be very interesting. You will have understood by now - if not immediately! - that Dimash not only was born with a natural gift, but has been applying 'olympic gold medal standard' discipline and training to his vocal development. An essential part of this has been his body work. He has explained in interview that he regularly does martial arts for both fun and core body strength, and also swims as much as he can to maintain and develop his lung capacity, { I'm pretty convinced that he, like the old deep sea pacific pearl divers, could sprint underwater along the sea bed for 5 minutes at a time - on the one breath! 😵💫}
The instrument is the Kazakh KOBYZ.
You are one of the best reactors to Dimash and my 88 year old sister thinks you're very good looking.
Thank you very much 😀 I'm flattered
Thank you for your wonderful analysis and explanations! I know nothing about music theory, and I've greatly enjoyed learning little tee bits with you as you react to Dimash. I'm loving your reactions because of this!
🙏🙏
Wow, thanks for the info!
Yeah, Samaltau is such a fantastic showcase of the traditional side of his repertoire. I really look forward to seeing your reaction and analysis of it.
Thank you for your professional analysis of Dimash’s performance of the composition Stranger. This gives great pleasure, especially to amateurs like me.💖
The pleasure's mine!
Yes please watch the other version 😊
Don't worry, I will do a reaction to it!
Great, thank you
Can't really go wrong with a piece performed by Dimash, written for him by Igor Krutoy, reacted to by Sir Hairless...
"Are you not entertained?!"
We are, thank you!
Very good 😂 Thanks!
Thank you so much, hope you have a lovely New Year too!

Gracias!
The instrument is the kobyz. It is a traditional Kazakh stringed instrument.
@@gdouglas999 Sharon Vaughan has done several projects with Lara Fabian. It would seem that is the connection.
@@richardabbott1173 Thank you! I can't find any information for that connection but I will look further. All I have ever seen about Vaughn is her connection to country music---which, incidentally, is my least favorite genre. But I love "Stranger!"
Sharon co-wrote Laras 2017 album Camouflage@@gdouglas999
Mega super talent ❤❤❤
Instrument? Kobyz. Really, really old. Maybe 5000 years. From Dimash's region. Made from one piece of wood. Maybe a goat skin stretched over the sound cavity.
2 horsehair strings. Horsehair bow. No frets, no fingerboard. All floating harmonics. Very hard to control. Playing it with an orchestra to orchestral tuning expectations is a small miracle.
Thanks!
Thank you!👍👍👍

Hej 🤗 jeszcze nie słyszałeś najwyższej nuty jaką Dimash zaśpiewał D8 😱🔥🔥🔥 w piosence Unforgettable Day na koncercie w Gakku ❣️❣️❣️ a jeżeli chodzi o to wykonanie na które zrobiłeś reakcję to on tu byl chory... Po prostu geniusz ❤❤❤
Love your reactions! I learn a lot! Thank you! Hug from Brazil!

Kisses from Brazil . Amamos Dimash 🇰🇿🇰🇿🇰🇿🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you very much!
Take care.
Lovely, thank you!
And thank you for your reactions!
Amazing! Thanks. Greetings from México ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
the other performance is certainly more fun to watch
Dimash é único, saudações do BRASIL 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷❤
You'll also get a good look/listen with the kobyz in Dimash's performance of Samaltau, recorded at the Tokyo Jazz Festival. It's a Kazakh folk song, and one of my Dimash favorites. I'm not sure of the name of the Kazakh musician who plays the kobyz for Dimash, but he's incredible. This is the first I've seen this performance, and I can tell that Dimash is off a little bit, and read from other comments that he was sick. The New Wave version is the Dimash-standard performance of Stranger.
Hi Sir,
Thank you for reacting to Dimash’s songs. It’s enjoyable and educational 🙏⭐️I subscribed.
Cheers!
Merci!
I think, it is a kobyz. A dombra is played with fingers only. 😉
New wave version is much better indeed. He was a bit ill here. Still awesome performance. Love your reactions ❤️

Gracias 👌🇪🇸

Yes many people have commented this! I am surprised as it's still a great performance
Thanks! And watch this space as I plan on reacting to Forestella in the near future
Thanks!
