I had the pleasure of meeting this fine gentleman, at the Whippany Rail Museum, back in 1988. I was packing a Contax RTSII with Zeiss lenses and strobe flash unit. I still remember his remark..."through that damn thing away and get some flash bulbs!" I just love his body of work.
I had the RTS II with some jazzy primes. 85 1.4, etc. Wish I had them now, but I don't mind this Fuji X system I have now. Been dropping some vintage glass onto it and doing pretty well. I had the book these pics are from, and am now looking for it again on ebay.
O. Winston Link is to steam railroading what Evan Doorbell is to telephones. Both are selfless documentarians who value preservation of what once was more than the cost of doing it. It is only because of folks like these guys that we have saved a bit of what once was, so that future generations can get some idea of how glorious it was when it existed.
Absolutely exceptional photographer.

His photography is amazing. He captures the essence of America and the Norfolk and Western Railway wonderfully.
