1957 for us in the Uk was still a steam dominated time. But it was the first year significant numbers of diesel locos were intrduced onto the UK rail network. DMUS came in force at the end of 1956
1218 was the last excursion loco used. i asked wife if she'd like to ride a steam passenger train, YES. unfortunately N&S discontinued the runs about 6 months earlier. sad.
The Norfolk & Western rr had an impressive variety of steam power back during the steam era , i always enjoy seeing footage of steam locomotives in operation as this is a distant era. The J class 4-8-4 engines along with the A and Y class articulated types were the most popular examples of N&W steam power, along with the K class Mountain type engines of which some engines were later streamlined in the late 1940s similar to the J class locomotives in their appearance.
@@Im_TheLineage the only close N&W 4-8-2 is one of the six surviving frisco mountains in the 1500 series. 1501 would be a great candidate IF she were to be restored that is

This is golden, its nice to know there is people out there who take pride in preserving seemingly unimportant songs from back in the day
This is entertaining to watch Steam Locomotive in action back in old days. Pentrex is my favorite narrator.

Nice video! Absolutely love those vintage N&W steam locomotives!

That last scene is a bit depressing though....that Y pushing the other 2 dead locos to be scrapped; and sadly the Y will meet (met) the same fate
So sad as a N&W fan it hit hard…

Great footage of the 2-8-0. I would love to see more of them along with the 4-8-0s and 4-6-0s if they are on film.
This is from a Pentrex video. I recognize the voice of the narrator.
I liked the Closeup Views of The Locamotives coming out of the Shop 😊

Lovely equipment. Should have preserved more equipment.

The K2s eventually became relatives of the Js.
so 611squeaked out a few more miles? damn that's a depressing scene
Thank you for this I like learning about N&W steam also I wonder what happened to the K2’s
Sadly none of the n&w K class mountains survive today they were all scrapped

The Mainline Steam has complete giveaway to Diesel Power on the N&W in 1959.
After the July 4 1959 c ok Al miners holiday, very few steam engines made it east of Bluefield.
Wow, so neat
They should never have scrapped those engines
Especially some built as late as 1953.
@Commodore Cardinal I've heard this before, especially the parts problem. Just liek old cars. But N&W held on longer than any other Class I.

Is that the footage from PENTREX or something.
Yes
