In the states the Fathom comes with 12 speed deore. I’d also stay away from the Roscoe because it has the 141 QR boost instead of 148 boost thru axle AND the geometry is weird. The seat tube angle on the Roscoe is 70*.
The other problem with the Roscoe (and I’ve said this so many times) is the fact that it’s 2021, and they’re still using a cheap QR axle with Boost 141 spacing on the frame, instead of a Boost 148 Thru Axle. It’s such a small difference that’s really a deal breaker.
Yup, got a Roscoe 8 2021 on August... and getting some issues with the rear hub, 2 months later... This f***** rear 141 hub can't be replaced/found easily, and Trek asks 3 months to deliver spare parts under warranty. (Artisans build wheels with hope/dtswiss hubs + qr end caps costs 400€) I don't want wait for 3 months each time something wrong happens on this rear wheel. So, I decided to upgrade the frame to a Commencal Meta. Now I don't know what to do with this Frankenstein Trek frame. So disappointed about Trek.
@@OlHoch good choice with the Commencal, I’d probably grab one if I could afford it and if there was one available in my size! Definitely an upgrade from the Trek. I’d suggest selling it as is, you can probably get close to what you paid into it total. Someone will buy it that’s willing to take care of what it needs and ride the hell out of it.
I was also looking at the Norco fluid ht 1, its a similar price point. I ended up spending a little more and got a Rocky Mountain Growler 40. 12 speed deore, hydraulic 180 mm brakes, boost hubs, rebranded 170 mm xfusion manic dropper post and 140 mm travel sr suntour raidon.
someone know what is the size of the rear hub in the Giant Fathom? I know that Roscoe has 141 boost and Specialized is 148 Boost. but I don't find what is the size of the Fathom
Both are great bikes. The Fathom has a slacker head tube angle at 66 degrees and is more at home in the descents whereas the XTC is a more at home in a cross country (especially climbing) application with 69.5 or 70 degree depending on size of bike . The XTC also has Giant's top rated Aluxx SLR aluminum and is on 29 in rims where the Fathom uses the Giant's 2nd tier upgraded Aluxx SL and has a 27.5 in rim option. If you plan on riding more Trail or downhill then I'd go for the Fathom. If you're looking for more XC, then the XTC is a more relaxed riding position with a shorter reach.
The fathom 29 it's a good option for cx trails? In my community the trails are a little thougs and want too feel safe in the descents thats the reason why I look for a longer fork travel, Wide tires, droper post and a good angle for the head tube
I have a roscoe 7 and so far I really like it , I bought it mostly because in my country it is more cheaper than the other options, I really like the 12 speeds but the true is I never use the 52 gear, I came from shimano and was hopping a better quality from sram, the shifters does not have the same shimano quality that I am used to, also I will prefer a standard 148 hub on the rear. I am old school rider so new new geometry is kind of weird to me, I am 1.7m and 79cm inseam so I go with M size but after 3 weeks I decide to sell it and go with a size S. I ride almost every day and I enjoy a lot this bike , those 27.5+ tyres are awesome
Everyone i have talked to said its not even debatable and the trek Roscoe 7 is the way to go. I know this sounds like im a grump but hear me out!!! The way the amazing creator of this video made all bikes sound great. But when you look at the prices, specialized and giant spent more money on the components most people tent to talk about. Which in result will lower the total quality of other parts of the bike. I have a trek roscoe and can't regret buying it. The steering is fantastic and the brakes are insane!!!!!! There is 2 things that i am not impressed with on the roscoe. 1 is that the hub which trek cheaped out on and put crappy ones on. And 2nd the paint chips fairly easy. If you are looking for good colour on a bike dont think the orange shown in the video is your only option one of the blacks put on the roscoe is the best colour i have ever seen!!! Hope this helped.
I just look at the phantom 29 number in geo are almost the same whit the fuse, the giant have.5 less degree HTA at 66, seat tube angle 75, is longer in reach than the fuse comes whit maxxis minion in front dissector in rear dropper post and rock shox 35 fork and cheaper for like $400 us compared whit the fuse expert, I was looking for the fuse but I find the phantom and make me change my mind.
Cool vid. I picked a Fuse 27.5 end of August. IMO, if I were to rank them, it'd be Fuse-Giant-Roscoe. Giant's geo is modern enough to hang with the Fuse (Roscoe isn't). Giant also has the thru-axle, like the Fuse. I trust a Rox Shox fork more though than the Giant one. And, for the almost identical price I would rather have the Specialized bits vs the Giant. I think the Giant would need to undercut the Fuse by say 200 (1100 USD) for me to consider it. I got the matte black Fuse, love it, but that gray Giant is sweet too.
I have a Roscoe 7. It's a great bike, but I would probably go with the Specialized. I got the Trek because it was literally the only bike under $2000 available in my city. I'd rather go witha 130mm fork and slightly slacker geometry. No problems with my SRAM SX, but it's pretty hit or miss. Deore is supposed to be more reliable. Also the Trek has a 141 QR rear hub, which is harder to upgrade over the other bikes with thru axle. I'm not sure about the Giant, an in-house fork and dropper might be more difficult to repair/maintain, and I never heard about this particular Tektro brake model. However it also come in 29", that could be pretty cool. However the Trek is still a great bike, it's beautiful and I'm having a blast riding it!
I wish they did that on the 2020. I plugged my tire thinking it was tubeless and I ended up making my leak worse because I just shoved a metal spike into my tube😂 I'm converting soon hopefully
Bro got the info on the Roscoe 7 about the transmission incomplete the Roscoe is 141 rear hub spacing making the chain shorter in a 12 speed cassette more efficient and faster. None of the bikes are for racing so is more of what one might like. It also use 120mm RockShox Judy SL the fork comes with a hydraulic lockout, making it stiffer if speed is part of the fun ride. Its 40 mm width wheels, that can be used with 29 tires if rider wants more speed or as the discussion of which is best for trail 29 or 27.5 is an issue with the Roscoe there is always the option of both. The other 2 only go for 27.5 tires, 38 mm for the Fuse and 30 mm for the Giant. I’m more of having more speed with the shorter chain with 12 speeds, over stiff, compared with other 2, when needed fork, and I’m undecided over the 27.5 or 29 tires discussion. Is like you said is more of what one might like vs what others might find better. I enjoy speedy rides more than technical ones, is more of what one might enjoy. All are fun MTB and considered all when deciding, went for speed at the end. Is better to try them before deciding, I did and used the Roscoe even with 29 x 2.3 tires and the Maxxis 27.5 x 2.8. For real couldn’t feel the difference but got to say Trek felt quicker than the other, the Fuse was more fun with bumpy parts, the Giant on jumps was awesome. Trek was great on jumps not as good as the Fanthom neither. I would say overall all are great, Trek is Quicker, Fuse more friendlier on bumpy rides, Giant is great for jumps. Is just what you might feel is good, go try them then decide.
Need to add this info to my reply previous reply, a Roscoe on 29” wheels is actually a X-Caliper (Trek) same frame, same cockpit what changes is components not by much. In essence you can convert a Trek Roscoe into a Trek X-Caliper and viceversa. Great channel just wanted to bring a bit of my current experience own a Roscoe btw.
That is a 2021 Fathom. It's called the Fathom 2 and has 27.5 wheels. It's a;so a Deore 12 sp build, not Sram SX. www.giant-bicycles.com/us/fathom-2-2021 Although I am leery about the in house Giant fork, the Deore 12sp puts it at the top for me!
I feel like the review is bias. I do not have any of the bikes so I am not biased. I feel like the SX is not a bad drivetrain compared to Deore. Overall if I had to pick one of the bikes I would not the giant. It has an in-house dropper and fork, on top of that it has tektros brakes. If I was buying for myself I would have to do more research but I feel that Gaint is the worst of them all.

Totally agree! The Trek is just not in the same league.
