I picked up my fuse earlier this year and I have been having a blast with it. Went tubeless, new grips, and flat pedals. This bike is very capable. With the plus tires being tubeless and running lower air pressure, the tires have some give to them to replicate a form of suspension. I’ve made some drops to flat and jumps that have soaked up most of the impact. This bike is perfect for me at the moment, definitely a great value.
I’m new to mountain biking. I got the 2020 model about 5 months ago, after I watched jamesthebikeguy review it. The bike is amazing. No regrets whatsoever. I’ve improve so much since day one. Have fun getting started with real mountainbiking man! You’ve made a great decision starting with a hardtail, especially the Fuse. Amazing geometry and super fun to ride! Just got the 2021 Comp 29er coming from a 12 year old 26. If I did it over again, I’d prob have gone with the 27.5er but so far I’m liking it. I miss some of the snappy handling, easier wheelies and bunny hopping with the smaller size wheel but I think it’s just getting used to the larger size as each ride has progressively gotten more ‘comfortable.’ It’s a totally different ride, geo accounting as well. Been a lot of fun plowing over limestone creek beds and roots and the Fuse hauls ass so it’s a good deal of fun. Went with the comp for the M4 frame but my current 12yr Spesh is A1 and if you’re looking to do a fairly huge fork upgrade pretty quickly off the bat the entry probably isn’t a bad call.
29.89 pounds nice. The bike is lighter than it looks. I was guessing somewhere over 30. 29.89 isn't much heavier than typical XC bikes at this price point.
Wow! This was a really good. Video I like how the bike looks loads. I have a question though. I am thinking of buying the specialised rockhopper expert because I prefer SRAM gears. So do you think I should get the fuse or the rockhopper? Keep up the great content 🤙🏻
This is me right now 😂 my main point was a dropper post, so I actually think I will end up going with the fuse, I talked to a few bike shops and they all said you're better off getting a bike with dropper Post straight away, better quality and ends up being a little cheaper then installing one later one. But i dont mind to much if its a shimano gear, I like both of them... So was a easy choice for me in the end
I was looking at the Roscoe 7, started on the Marlin 7 then got juiced up for the better fork/weight in the Roscoe and the X Cal. But, kept reading all sorts of bad reviews on the SRAM drivetrain slipping and needing constant in-shop service because of the taped screw mechanisms... Let us know if you have any issues with the SRAM. If Trek carried the higher quality Shimano in their better frames, I probably would have stuck with them but just ordered the Fuse 27.5 b/c of the all Shimano 11 drive (might upgrade the crank eventually)
Been looking at this for sometime, your vid explains a lot in simple terms, the slight price increase from the 2020 now makes sense due to some good upgrades plus this black is far better than that 2020 one, just not easy to physically see one in the flesh and actually buy one in the UK right now, good vid though
Does it come with the drop post or do you have to buy the drop post separate? Thinking of getting this special order, love the slick low key logo & internal cable routing, just awesome!
LJ7 The fuse has rear thru-axle, 11-51 d’être as opposed to sx eagle, which people say is very finicky, 10mm more travel, and more progressive geo than the Roscoe. The only benefit to the Roscoe over the fuse is 10mm more travel in the dropper post, but both bikes will be amazing. All depends on personal preference. I personally just got this fuse and love it, but so many people also love the Roscoe range as well.
Just picked up this bike a couple weeks ago. Not sure if mine is 2020 or 2021. Halfway through the vid you started saying new for 2020(6:28) on a few things so I am kinda confused about what's new between 2020 and 2021. You also called it the 2020 before and after weighing it.
Odd choice to use a 30mm internal wheelset for the 2.8. Most would say at least 33mm internal would be preferred for that size. Also weird the small & medium doesn't get at least 180mm rotor in the front.
Great bike. Honestly I think there's too much BS with components/groupsets. I've got 2 Scott Genius, 1 top end fox factory Di2 etc the other a entry level (only change wheels) and there's not much real world difference between the two.
It depends on how you plan to use it. The Roscoe I would choose if it was for more I'll use bike that can also do some good mountain biking. The fuse I would choose if I was a little more advanced mountain biker and looking to progress my skills

If Trek carried the higher quality Shimano in their better frames, I probably would have stuck with them but just ordered the Fuse 27.5 b/c of the all Shimano 11 drive (might upgrade the crank eventually)
Thanks very helpful. Hopefully I’ll be getting this bike very soon
Been looking at this for sometime, your vid explains a lot in simple terms, the slight price increase from the 2020 now makes sense due to some good upgrades plus this black is far better than that 2020 one, just not easy to physically see one in the flesh and actually buy one in the UK right now, good vid though
I have announced it in advance is it worth the money?
Check out the new Giant Fathom also.
Please review the 2021 fuse comp 29er.
I have recorded that video this past weekend. I'll get it up in a few weeks or so as I want to get some other cool bikes out first.
@@Jamesthebikeguy Thank you, looking forward to the upcoming videos.
I would like you to make a video of a marin san quentin 3 2021 please
Does it come with the drop post or do you have to buy the drop post separate? Thinking of getting this special order, love the slick low key logo & internal cable routing, just awesome!
Yes it does come with the drop post.
Im a 190cm and ive been wondering if this would still be good for me? I know theres and XL but is a 29" better?
Yes Sir ,perfect
Hello James,is it ok to change the size wheel with size 27.6 x2.3 to make it a little bit small size of the wheels.thank you James..stay safe..
That will likely lower the BB more than you would want.
@@Jamesthebikeguy thank you James ..
Entering my wife with her first bad boy MTB. The only thing I don't like is that for $1,500 they had put tubeless tires and a better cranset.
hey James I switched my acc name and profile pic but I wanted to ask you a quest. How do you rate this bike in overall mountain, trai, performance?
This or the trek Roscoe 7?
Roscoe7
LJ7 The fuse has rear thru-axle, 11-51 d’être as opposed to sx eagle, which people say is very finicky, 10mm more travel, and more progressive geo than the Roscoe. The only benefit to the Roscoe over the fuse is 10mm more travel in the dropper post, but both bikes will be amazing. All depends on personal preference. I personally just got this fuse and love it, but so many people also love the Roscoe range as well.
@@hughjanus3512 roscoe 8 better fork better components . Looks better too
Just picked up this bike a couple weeks ago. Not sure if mine is 2020 or 2021. Halfway through the vid you started saying new for 2020(6:28) on a few things so I am kinda confused about what's new between 2020 and 2021. You also called it the 2020 before and after weighing it.
You can tell by the color 2021 model there is blue or black on Specialized Fuse.
@@pyromel0540 Thanks so much, I am new to mtn biking and didn't realize it was that easy.
Odd choice to use a 30mm internal wheelset for the 2.8. Most would say at least 33mm internal would be preferred for that size. Also weird the small & medium doesn't get at least 180mm rotor in the front.
It's 38mm
@@Jamesthebikeguy oh I thought I heard 30mm, 38mm is better.
Mellissa Nash my plus bike is a 50 mm, what do you think is the most narrow I can run on if? 2.6”?
Does a $200 mtb(trek 3000) vs a $1400 mtb(like this on in the video) make the your riding experience that much better...just asking
Yeah you would see a tremendous change in the capability, and experience on the trail.
When is the next availability of this? 2022?
Great bike. Honestly I think there's too much BS with components/groupsets. I've got 2 Scott Genius, 1 top end fox factory Di2 etc the other a entry level (only change wheels) and there's not much real world difference between the two.
Please review the 2021 specialized fuse expert 29
If one comes available to I sure will.
Where can you get this bike? It's out of stock everywhere!
Get one on order!
what is the bike's size? and how tall are you?
How is it?
Did they discontinued the Carbon model?
Wish i have bike like that. Too expensive here. Shout out from the philippines
please review the trek 2021 trek slash 9.8 please
Those are unobtanium right now. Doubt I will get the opportunity
Is this bike only american, can someone get a link to the polish site thx
So between the comp and base models which one is better? I’m also stuck deciding between the 27s or 29s version.
comp, you got sliding rear axle
Can the fork take a 29 x 2.6 as well? that 27.5 x 2.8 looks pretty tight in there as it stands.
No, you have to get the next model up or change the fork out for it to fit a 29 inch wheel.
I had to decide between this bike or the 2021 Marin San Quentin
I chose the San Quentin
Cool hope your having fun on the bike!
I preordered it but because of the pandemic I probably won't get it until next year😞
@@hanzhaoxia4370 Bro I put in an order in JULY and won't get one until MARCH
What mountain bike can you recommend under $1000 ? There are so many to choose from it makes my head spin.
Marin San Quentin 1
For under $1000 there is really only around 20-30 and you'd narrow that down to a handful depending on what type of riding you'll do.
Specialized Rockhopper Elite $950 mrsp
Kona mahunna
What size is the frame in the video?
hey i'm torn between this and the roscoe, what's your thoughts?
It depends on how you plan to use it. The Roscoe I would choose if it was for more I'll use bike that can also do some good mountain biking. The fuse I would choose if I was a little more advanced mountain biker and looking to progress my skills
Is it possible to upgrade to 29 tires with this bike? Haven’t got a definitive answer anywhere
Well you will need to get new wheels too, but yes with wheels and tires you can.
James, do you know if we can buy a drop out on the rear chain stay to shorten it for the entry level bike?
No not on the base frame. Comp or higher has that capability
Just curious how this bike compares to a trek Roscoe 7-8?
A little more agressive geometery than the Roscoe. The parts spec is near identical to the Roscoe 7.
What are the other lower priced "real mountain" bikes to look at? Looking to buy my first MTN bike for 2yrs now man... It's so complicated which is why I'm still on my Standard STA500 20.5 bmx bike... But man I'm 40 now, that ish hurts my wrists something FIERCE...
let me know
oNe
Their are a lot of aggressive Hardtail’s for this price point. Check out Ragley, Nukeproof and Commencal just to name a few.
@@psychoholicracing837 but which models exactly? Each one of those has like 5+ models.. initially I wanted a Chameleon but thought $1800 was too much to spend on a first bike.. 5'8" wanting to ride trails green/blue and some downhill and jumps..
The Ragley Marley is a good all around bike. Just hard to find. If you are doing blue and green trails this specialized is fine or a Trek Roscoe.
@@psychoholicracing837 sounds good man, Fuse it is since if that one is hard to find, can't even imagine the other lesser known brands... Thanks man!!
i notice the tire very similar to maxxis rekon, actually i thougt it was rekon
Oh wow very wow
My dream bike the geometry come on bad boy...
But suddenly its very expensive
I can't afford. I hope someone will give me one of this badass mtb..
Nice video!! I have the 2021 Comp XL model on order.
Good choice!
Man nice upgrades. Wish I'd waited a year but I do love the green color I got
Nah, the 2022 model will get upgrades too. Remember you got a year of riding under your belt, thats worth more than any upgrade!
Agreed, I went for the comp model 2020 and the biggest downside is the drivetrain (SRAM SX) so I decided to upgrade it to Shimano drivetrain, which of course I need a new hub for :(
@Jon Jones There is no M4 frame in green? Only the 2020 Fuse 27.5 with A1 frame is.
But yes M4 frame has nicer welds than A1 thats for sure
@@MrNat916777 I didn't realize until after I bought the 27.5 that it had a different frame material. Is there any major difference in the two frames besides the welds and sliding dropouts?
@@DG-gq6gm The weight, my frame + fork weight like 4-6lbs, no jok. A1 frame is less butted therefore is heavier.
Great video btw, if you get your hands on an Chisel I would love to see that review
Unfortunately they don't make that bike anymore.
I hope they announce the 21s at some point, it’s already impossible to get anything under 1200
@@Jamesthebikeguy The Chisel Comp has 2019-2021 versions James? Comparing the Chisel Comp to the Fuse for 2020 or 2021, what do you see as the main differences?
i was about to sell my fuse 2021(i bought a 2022 stumpjumper) when i saw this video. Im now having second thoughts and just thinking of keeping my fuse. Lol
I am new to biking. Is it a trail bike or a cross country bike? Price? Is it 2020 or 2021?
This is a 2021
