    Since it's North American introduction in 2001, the Highlander has been a major hit for Toyota's SUV lineup. With an excellent combination of ride & handling, style and comfort it's easy to see why this midsize crossover won over the hearts of so many. But how about now, some 16 years later? In a sea of available crossovers can the Highlander still win over the hearts of shoppers?
    Introduced in 2014 completely redesigned, Toyota saw it fit to give the Highlander some new duds just three years later. More than just appearances were changed however. Under the hood is a new V6 engine mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission - what a refresh!
    The two combine to make for one zippy people hauler. Boasting 295hp & 263 lb.-ft. of torque never will you need to worry about hill climbing power or passing on a twisty two lane. Need to hitch up the camper or tow the boat? The highlander has your back with its ability to pull 5,000lbs. when properly equipped.
    So the outside is handsome as ever, the muscle robust and fuel economy top notch. How does the interior stack up? in a word; well. With available aids such as Driver Easy Speak to help reduce the excuses of your kids not hearing you say "Stop that!", Navigation to get you where you need and Siri Eyes Free to keep your hands on the wheel nothing can stop you know. Need to pick up the neighbors kids on the way to soccer practice? No sweat with room for up to 8 passengers.
    Safety is of top priority at Toyota and they don't disappoint with the Highlander. Included now on every 2017 is TSS-P including but not limited to Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Auto High Beams, Lane Departure Assist, Radar Cruise Control and more. A backup camera is standard too.
    With six gas trim levels and four Hybrid trim levels, it's not hard to see that once again the Toyota Highlander will continue to win over the hearts of shoppers for years to come.
    Grappone Toyota is located in Bow, NH just south of Concord and only 20 minutes from Manchester. Conveniently located at the intersection of I89/I93 - come see why we are Driven to Amaze!

    A family member had an original 2001 Highlander Limited that gave out at 375k miles in 2015. They purchased a new one at the end of 2015 and love it. I like that the Toyota Safety Sense is now standard equipment for 2017. Thanks for the great review!

    Consistently great videos from Grappone. Thank you for the commentary and the thoughtful review of the vehicles. Too many car reviews on you tube take too long going over useless tidbits of information. This guy consistently does great reviews, much appreciated.

    I have narrowed it down to 2017 CR-V vs 2017 Highlander for my next purchase. The 2 most important things for me are ride(how good it soaks up bumps) and interior noise level. I was bit disappointed when I test drove the new CR-V in those aspects(may be it was my perception and expectations)
    Is highlander quieter and ride better than CR-V given the added weight and size?I was thinking it may also give that "solid sturdy feel" on highway cruising compared to CR-V. Your opinion as you have done reviews on both?
    Thank again!

      drabhi07 I haven't driven a CR-V yet, but I do own the 17' highlander Se. I took it on a road trip from Texas to New Jersey & New York, in snowy weather. Let me tell you, it's wonderful. Very quiet and smooth. It's a well built SUV.

    • @GrapponeAutomotiveGroup
      @GrapponeAutomotiveGroup  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      drabhi07 that is a tough one as I really like both of these SUVs. That being said the Highlander is a level above the CR-V in terms of size & class and as such does have a more compliant ride. Toyota makes sure the interior noise level is kept lower than say, a RAV4 (same class as CR-V) as well. Since you've driven the CR-V and weren't impressed I would recommend taking a test in the Highlander to see how that feels to you. Don't forget to let the community here know your thoughts too!

    • @drabhi07
      @drabhi07 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks everyone for your input. I think I will go with CRV as I don't think its worth 10-12K extra just for the compliant ride especially if we don't need all that extra space.

    Can you comment on AWD performance on snowy/Icy roads? Did you feel confident driving at those speeds on highway(snow)? How do they compare to Honda AWD?

    • @GrapponeAutomotiveGroup
      @GrapponeAutomotiveGroup  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome drabhi07, glad you liked it. The AWD did an excellent job during my drive. Like I mentioned in the video, these roads were SLICK. I simply pressed the "Snow" button and used caution when I drove. I had no issues. I haven't had a Honda Pilot out in the snow so I don't want to give an opinion that would be unfairly biased.

      We've owned 2 Hondas & 2 Acuras which we've loved, but the CVT longevity concerns me. Since the Highlander has 6/8 speed auto transmission, I'm going to have to say goodbye to Honda for now.

    • @alextran8188

      If you want a roomy car get the pilot. but if you want a good looking car get the highlander (although in my opinion both cars look nice). in terms of reliability they are both very reliable cars and they both come from very trustworthy brands.. I think it all comes down to personal preference in my opinion..

      295hp & 263lb.-ft. of torque is correct. 2017 is the first year of a new Atkinson Cycle 3.5L V6 in the Highlander which produces more horsepower and torque than the pre-refresh 2016 Highlander which also had a 3.5L V6. The V6 in 2014-2016 generated 270hp with 248lb.-ft. of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic.Thanks for watching!

    • @Heiserton
      @Heiserton 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're correct. Wow, I figured they'd be the same as the 3rd Gen Tacoma's since they have the same engines. They must be tuned differently, because my '17 TRD Off Road only makes 278hp :(. I stand corrected, good sir!
