Seth, I would love to see you dive into antique bikes a little more. So many of the attributes of the Buffalo bike were normal features of a 1950’s bicycle. Lots of interesting history to uncover too. Early shaft drive bikes, art deco styling in the late 30’s before WW2, Peewee Herman & Hopalong Cassidy bikes, fancy frame lugs, etc. Interest in antique bikes (besides penny farthings) is fading and hopefully a channel like yours could breathe new life into it. 😊

Those XTR rim brakes were as good as it got until discs became commonplace. That includes the magura hydraulic rim brakes which had enough power to crush a rim.
I'm guessing no bottle cage because the bolt holes are a place water can get into the frame causing internal rusting in that hi-ten steel.

I'm turning 60 this summer, and I remember riding several of these bikes, especially the Slingshot, the "Y" (why would ya...😂) bikes from Trek and some super high pivot bikes (Catamount/Klein) and the Cannondale Lefty and headshock bikes back in the day. I was involved with many friends who rode 4-5 days a week (sometimes 6-7) centered around a very cool bike shop in Bethpage NY. I owned 3 different bikes - a Carbon Fiber mongoose, a Steel Kona, and a K2/Proflex 757 with a front linkage fork. That linkage fork was my favorite. Those were the days. Love seeing the mid 90's bikes again.
And even back then the slingshot was perfectly reliable and always got you home, but I was too heavy for it, and it would flex like nothing I have ever riden since. It felt Sooo sketchy, but it always held the line. Rocks and roots! So much fun. The Nishiki Alien was another cool rider, but too weird for even me. I wish I had my own slingshot though....
    Thanks for this!

Hey Seth, just that part about the Raised Reverse stem, that's why a lot of freeriders use the shortest direct-mount stem possible, because it makes the bike feel more stable and can actually make it feel better and faster on a DH race bike as well, GMBN Did a segment where they tested out Dakota North's bar height (50mm rise on a DH race bike) and they Liked it, and it looks like the bars are in a similar position to where they are with this stem, so possibly could this mean that it really is beneficial and we will see more in the future?

I ride an GIANT DH COMP 2003 and although my stem is different it suits me upright in that position I was riding a road comp hybrid and I constantly had back ache. I found my fitness and stamina increased. One more thing a set of riser bars which will allow you to push them forward more. I rarely have to take my a$$ off the seat. Comfortable sitting position
