Tool, as a whole, are on another level. Each musician is a master of their craft. If you ever get the chance, you must see them live. I’ve seen them live half a dozen times, and it’s mind blowing every time. The visuals they use, the lights, and of course the music…🤯

The timing of the song is 9:8, 8:8 and 7:8. 987 is the 16th Fibonacci number. Also, the lyrics begin at 1:12. 1, 1 and 2 are the first 3 Fibonacci numbers.

New Subscriber, and big fan of Metal Mondays. It’s refreshing and rewarding as a Metal fan to see others appreciate the music we love. Your interpretation of most of these songs is spot on, and it gives a whole new meaning to “Reacts to…”
Also, reacting to multiple songs from a single artist truly gives you an appreciation for some of capabilities of each band.
With that said, we’re gonna need to step it up a notch and get those lyric sheets out for some of the biggest songs in the last three years…
    1. Lorna Shore - …and I return to nothingness
    2. Slaughter to Prevail - Demolisher
And one of my recent favs..

The Reverand James Keenan is one of the most amazing musicians ever! Almost every Tool song is amazing song writing and you can always tell it's Tool from the musicality of it. 'Ride the spiral until the end' could also be saying until your end, rather than the spiral's end. As in, keep pushing to go as far as we can in what we have of our limited human lives. This song is basically the Tool obstacle course. There are multiple points where he is saying 'embrace the random', and then musically they are literally pushing reality through itself, and the listener is in the position of trying to fight/control it, or embracing it. You have to make the choice to open wide to suck it in, to see the beauty.

I have been waiting for this one for a long time.
*Later Edit* The overanalyzing line is especially poignant in this song because as much as people love to analyze this song to death, it loses its potency when you do. This song is best understood by letting it play straight through and letting your mind ride with it on the journey. Just turn off the lights, lay back, and listen.

Tool gives us the interpretive key in the first verses of the lyrics.
The first verses are a clear reference to Alchemy and the four stages of transmutation: nigredo (black), albedo (white), rubedo (red) and yellow (citrinitas).
Then there is a reference to the first hermetic law: "As above, so below". It is the law of correspondences, of analogy, etc.

But this band has helped me through so many bad or confusing times. I don’t care how people judge that, Tool is responsible for me not ending this existence multiple times. You stopped and commented on the word Tool and what it looked like to you-that’s when I subscribed. Tool is definitely in a league of their own in all aspects, glad you appreciate them on all levels of artistry

  • @HauntedLuci
    @HauntedLuci ปีที่แล้ว +6

You're very close with the lyrics for the first verse! But instead of a single person growing into the colors, it's actually about humanity as a whole. More specifically, it's a reference to the evolution of different human languages, and their terms for colors. Historically, when a new language is created, the first color names they create are for black and white (light and dark, day and night)
Then typically the next colors that get named are Red (as in fire, meat, fruits), followed by Yellow (sun, wheat, tigers, etc.), Green (plants and spoiled food), and Blue (sky and water). And so on...
To me, this song is about the evolution of Humanity in its infancy. Learning about our place in this world. Over time, creating religion and spirituality. All the while, overthinking and over-analysing who we really are, and missing the beauty of the fact that we are just another part of the Natural World.

If you want to get semantic, the fibonacci sequence can start with 0 and 1, instead of 1 and 1. That's not how it was first defined, but you can naturally extend it back one number in the same iterative way that you add the previous two numbers to get the next. 0+1=1, giving the second 1 in the pattern, and it continues just as if it started with 1 and 1. Usually this small fact has absolutely no meaning whatsoever, but since this is Tool we're talking about, maybe that first 0 plays a role somehow in the patterns of the syllables, like a pause for the first beat in the phrase or something like that.

Idk if I’m correct in this, but if you imagine what a baby would see in the womb as it’s eyes developed, it would start as black, then white as the eyes develop to detect light, and as it developed further I think it would see red and yellow. Since it’s in a womb it doesn’t have a pure white source of light that it can see, it would just see light coming through the skin and tissue of the mother. Like when you stick a bright flashlight to your palm then look at the back of your hand, you see reds and yellows as the light passes through your tissues. So that would be similar to what a baby would see in a womb, at least I imagine that’s what it would see.

I started watching Knox thanks to his ERB reactions, then left internet for a bit. Now I'm back to witness my fellow toolheads using Knox's pristine brain like they were given access to NASA computer to crack the Maynigma.
    I like this symbiosis.

This song was meant to be played in order on the album. To mention something additional that I don't see many others from the Tool Army saying.. Do yourself a favor and play the whole album.. Nonstop.

Dude, I suggest you do Tool's discography, from start to end...or a few tracks from each from beginning to their last album, Fear Inoculum. You will see their progression with time and age. They're still killing it!

I'm telling you man.. Right in two is one of the best tools songs. Well. One of the best songs ever written. If you've reacted to it already then I guess I missed it and that's my bad but yo. Right in two is such a good song. Well worth the listen.

If by Tool, go for 46 & 2, or Right in two
If you're looking for something different I'd say go for Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize

The timing on this track is so crazy! As a drummer this one is very hard to play. Danny is a beast on the drums! Knox, you ever need some good "acoustic" drums I can help you out!

Okay. For the same reason that this shows the beauty of nature and complexity of self, listen to and take time breaking apart the lyrics for Thou's Free Will. The revulsion of all we strive for, the lies we're fed and the barbarity of nature that would consume us in a heartbeat leaving nothing left. Psychedelia hits all different.

I like to think of the song as the protagonist reaching out to make a change from the pattern he constantly seems absorbed in. He's reaching out to embrace the random, embrace the desire to feel the rhythm, feel connected - as part of his old mundane life, he has become narrow minded and one dimensional. That's my though anyways.
