    Hey Knox, 50yo man here, original 92 OG Tool fan here, and I love all types of music. I've watched several of your reaction vids, most of the Eminem ones, and I like your very technical breakdowns of rhyme schemes, rhythm, and lyrical analysis. This vid earned you a sub and bell notification from me, and like the others let me suggest that you revisit Pneuma by Tool the live version from Danny Carey's perspective (he's the Drummer). It will absolutely knock your socks off, even if you aren't a drummer because you'll realize just how technical he is, how precise in his rhythms, and be stunned at the set up.
    If you like Tool, you should absolutely also check out 46+2, which is one of my favorites, and Lateralus. If you like off beat time signatures and lyrical shenanigans, Lateralus utilizes the Fibonacci sequence, and there are a few different videos that discuss this. If you're unfamiliar with the Fibonacci sequence, look it up. It is musical genius. No other band is quite like Tool.
    It's fun watching a new Tool fan burgeoning into existence.
    Also, burgeoning is a great word that you should use in your own lyrics someday.

  • @Gideonite
    @Gideonite ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I mean if you do listen to Tool maybe start from their first EP Opiate from 91/92. Or you can start with their first full Album Undertow from 1993. It’s great to see their evolution and growth as a band. They go from raw angry to introspective as they aged.

    This band is arguably composed of four genius-level musicians: Danny "The Octopus" Carey on impossible polyrhythm drums, Maynard "MJK" James Keenan on mind-bending vocals/lyrics, Adam Jones on spirit-flowing/driving guitar as well as much of their visual production, and Justin Chancelor on Fucking Great Bass That Seals The Deal.

  • @brumblebeeart5136

    Tool turns everyone into a philosopher lol, prepare for more deep thoughts! And nobody has just one favorite Tool song, so no pressure to pick :)
    That said, you MUST WATCH the live drum cam for Pnuema - it's from 2019, the drummer (Danny Carey) was 58 years old in the video. Full beast mode.
    Other Tool suggestions:
    Descending
    Forty Six & 2
    Vicarious
    Lateralus (based on fibonacci sequence)
    Jimmy
    H.
    The Grudge
    H.W.A.P.
    These songs are pairs made to be listened to in succession:
    Intension/ Right In Two
    Parabol/ Parabola
    Last Keys/ Rosetta Stoned
    Think that should keep you busy for a while lol

    pneuma = PHILOSOPHY
    (in Stoic thought) the vital spirit, soul, or creative force of a person.
    The Meaning To Me Is .. Always Reach out into the creative spirit of your consciousness... because it is very true... we can either create.. or destroy... through our own impact on this world.. so become pneuma.. creating the beautiful spirit of mankind that we can live through to better evolve our perspectives and unity as a being and as a collective. #LoveOverEverything

    The title of the song, pneuma (think pneumatic etc.) is from Ancient Greek πνεῦμα (pneûma), meaning breath, hence spirit, soul. To the gnostics, the pneûma was one of the three constituents of humans (the others being body and soul). Greek pneûma was Latin spīritus. This was quite the philosophical discussion in ancient times: Are we breathed into life? Or do we gain breath as the soul enters our body? Does life end as your last breath leaves your body. Does the last breath leave because your soul has left, or is the soul leaving with the last breath? After it? Does it linger?
    The airiness of his delivery matches the idea of spirit. And the delivery of the lyrics allow them to change meaning as the song progresses. ‘We are’ is a statement of itself; ‘We are spirit’ (re)defines us; ‘We are spirit bound to’ - ‘to what?’, we may want to ask, and is this to be followed by a noun or a verb we wonder; then resolution as we get to know that we are spirit bound to flesh.

    I'm chiming in on the drum cam train! IMHO, it sounds better than the studio. There are a few fills they do live that really should have been on the studio version. Like, because they're not, I think the studio version is boring...I can't believe I just thought that...

    You don't really understand the technicality of what Danny is doing on the drums until you watch the live video of this. I had the absolute pleasure of seeing these guys live earlier in the year and when this song came on I was absolutely mesmerised. A Tool live gig is like a transcendental experience, and this song was the peak of it for me.

      Danny has been a master since before they started, he is a beast and was a jazz drummer for 5 or 10 years before switching over to metal with Tool. He uses the high hat and snare more then most drummers which is a staple of Jazz drumming.

    I'll have to say this. Ur musical background really helps u with this song. U are able to pick up all the different polyrhythms in the song. Wait til u watch the live version with the Danny Carey cam. Ur mind will be blown. Even if u don't to a react to it just wait to witness the awe of the octopus man, Danny carey.

    I hope you'll react to Lateralus at some point. The pauses between syllables in that song, as well as many other metrics of the song (duration, time signatures...) are fitting with the fibonacci sequence.
    Sober or Schism have great lyrics to analyze too. 👍🏻

    • @bwaredapenguin
      @bwaredapenguin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's only the lyrics that follow the Fibonacci sequence. The time signatures are predominantly 7/8, 8/8, and 9/8 and the original title of the song was 7-8-9 because of that.

    Maynard gets the music from the other band members and listens to it relentlessly to determine the cadence of the syllables that will fit best rhythmically and melodically, then writes words to be those syllables. That is why his cadence, spacing, and delivery is so unique.
