Dear Old Guy: TH-cam is like a competition: Secrets and style are sacrificed for a purpose.
The stock trading mentors and gurus teach seemingly solid speculation in the game of chance syndrome, where their chances of loss are slim and have the most benefits where
      they don't need to gamble.

At 65 and working in healthcare, there are so many day-to-day responsibilities I need to focus on with patient healthcare. I chose Plan G while I am still able to make good judgement decisions, like being proactive. Plan G will be working for me in the background while I work for others in the foreground. Very helpful video sir. Thank you! Monday I am putting Plan G on auto pilot for me.

I had to get up to speed quickly and your videos provided me great information. I worked with Marcene and she was wonderful and signed me up for a Plan N. She also worked on correcting my sister's mistake of going with a MA plan and signed her up for a Plan N also. We are both thrilled with our plans and know that long term this is going to be great for us.

EXCELLENT video. Thank you. For us, Plan G starting 3/21 for three reasons: 1) It’s most like our current employer retiree healthcare- great coverage, but costly. We have to transition to Medicare when eligible and we are already used to paying a fairly high monthly premium 2) Last fall, a tough to diagnose issue sent one of us to multiple specialists who ordered multiple scans and tests. With current employer retiree healthcare, there were no worries about networks, deductibles or excess charges as we bounced from one specialist and hospital group to another 3) Peace of mind. When faced with a serious health issue, the last thing I want to worry about is picking and choosing options based on cost.

Thank you for the comment -- it got me to thinking... I may only see a doctor a few times per year now, but what if I ever have a complicated health situation that requires a number of doctors and specialists to treat. If I'm feeling lousy would I want the extra stress of paying copays and worrying about how this is going to affect our budget. I've got a few months to make up my mind, but this is definitely worth thinking about and factoring into my decision. So thank you 👍

This video is very well done. It would be even more effective and more profound if the presenter put up some slides that compared the type of plan (complete coverage vs. high deductible) and gave examples/scenarios showing the math. It would promote a quick grasp understanding for the viewer and the presenter would not have to repeat the same information as much. Still a very sound video with good information, though.

For me, fairly healthy and few doctor visits, l could easily switch now from G to N and save some money, but the savings for me personally is not in anyway overwhelmingly significant, and you do pick up that little extra risk factor. Certainly as one gets older and needs more care the N plan seems to make less financial sense.

I'm 57 years and qualify early for medicare due to being a SS/RRR disability recipient for 24months. Today, the broker I’m working with sent me the following message, “Not all carriers offer Medicare Supplements for individuals under age 65 and the ones that do have much higher monthly premiums.” I live in the state of Illinois. I think the difference is you don't have to pay that first $230 deductible each year. Those of us who reach age 65 after 2019 or so can no longer get Plan F. Check behind me though.

You don't "have" to move to a Plan G, but you may want to. I have heard that one advantage of a G plan over an F plan is that G plan premiums may have bigger rate increases over time since they don't have the same pool of younger participants continually entering its plan the way Plan G does. The younger participants who presumably have less health care needs keep the Plan G costs down and hence keep the premiums down over time.

I'm a PLAN N guy. I had Advantage Plans & just Medicare but when I was about to turn 65, I knew the extra hassles I'd still be going through with denied/not covered Dr visits & going through at least 6 months of appeals. PLAN N in Pennsylvania is great because it's against the law to charge patients EXCESS FEES here! 🙂
Q: Can we change Supplemental Insurance companies before each new year (if we choose) even though we stick with the same Plan (G, N, etc)?

We can start looking at your alternatives in February. Your Medicare enrollment application can be no earlier than April. You will start getting a lot of junk mail and phone calls by February. The nice thing about getting this done early is the freedom to throw away the junk mail and tell the cold callers you have already made your decisions.

    Thanks for your video(s)!
To answer your question, I’m a high deductible G type person.
    Explanation (using approximate numbers)
The plan G in Florida is too high (~$170+), where the HD-G is over $100 a month less in premiums. Since the only difference is a deductible each year of approaching $2400, that means every two years (more likely early in retirement) you don’t need hospitalization, you save enough in premiums to pay for a catastrophic health year. I’m aware of the December-January illness possibly having to, pardon the phrase, cough up twice the yearly deductible. But odds are good that you will go more years with less healthcare needs (remember, Medicare pays 80%, so the $1200 difference in annual premiums between G and HD-G pays for $6000 in healthcare each year before having a HD-G plan costs more than a regular G plan, and at that point, you’re about $1,200 away from your max out of pocket. The more I think about it, the better HD-G sounds like the best plan for me.
One more thing to think about:
The money you save in premiums will then not come out of your retirement savings, and if you keep a healthy amount in the stock market (S&P 500 index for me - low fees and beats most fund managers), with only enough for a couple years’ living expenses in cash/T-bills, then you will have that saved money that you won’t need to take from your liquid assets (and then sell stock to replenish). So, ultimately, you are investing your saved premiums in the stock market for the long term, which has historically been a winner over a long period.
Finally, everyone will die, we just don’t know when, which makes this whole retirement planning pretty complicated! I look at it this way. I have enough saved so that I can afford deductibles and will therefore self insure for the premium savings, while not having to worry about copays or the 15% doctor that plan N introduces. It’s the best of both worlds, from my point of view.
    Sorry for the length.

I am leaning towards a plan N but have a couple remaining questions/concerns before I can feel more confident in my decision. In regard to the potential excess char ges, I understand I can most often research what providers are Medicare providers but there may be situations when I cannot do this. For example, I just had outpt surgery and I made sure that the surgeon and outpt surrgery center were Medicare approved but I had no way of determining whether the independent anesthesiologist (who I met on day of surgery) was within Medicare network. Likewise, what about emergency situations: 911 dispatches medics and take person to a local hospital: how does a person with Medicare medigap supplement plans prevent surprise expenses that normally Medicare would cover? Thank you for taking the time to explain.

Hi Erin - i have lots of easy answers. First, I just put out an updated Plan n video 5 days ago: th-cam.com/video/thWwEvtMXCk/w-d-xo.html This will answer your questions with more detail than I can here. However, you will be please to know that two features of excess charges will answer your questions. 1. there can be no excess charges in emergency services. Not allowed 2. Groups are all or none. Either all the doctors in a group or hospital charge an excess charge or none. Can't have an odd doctor out that charges an excess charge. In the case of your anesthesiologist - he/she belongs to a group. Just find out of the group and you have your answer. Watch the video for why only about 1.50% of all doctors can charge an excess charge, and 40% of those are psychologist. The Kaiser Foundation survey shows that less than 1% of Medicare charges include an excess charge. There is some of my competition on TH-cam that are articulating stats puled out of their ...thin air and are misleading. Again that video and my older Plan N video provide the answers you need. Use this form and we can show you which insurance company is best in your area. medigapseminars.org/contact-us/

Newly eligible, trending toward Plan HDG. I'm fine with "putting in a little effort" toward planning and saving, which is why I have tried to do that all along (up front), meaning in retirement maybe I'll get to pull back a bit and just enjoy some "peace of mind". That will become even more important should I become increasingly less capable (or motivated), and it also becomes more difficult to switch plans.
