Had no clues about Medicare. After dad passed and mom moved near me, I asked to attend a meeting with a Medicare consultant similar to you. So many terms and strange explanations different than my traditional insurance. She ultimately went with a Plan N and is happy with it. I have since watched many TH-cam videos. Your are easily the most no nonsense and easy to follow. I don't go on Medicare for until May 2027, but I will will definitely give you a call as it gets closer to help me navigate these strange waters. I was looking at High Deductible, but not leaning toward Plan N now. Thanks for making a confusing topic, everything government touches is, much clearer.

I'm a piece of mind type person and have been with plan G since going on part B of medicare. I was in the health insurance industry my entire career but since retiring I have used you as my source. As deductibles rise so do premiums so every year I have one of your agents give me a quote. As long as you stay healthy and can qualify let Matt get you a quote. These plans are all standardized by the government and all medicare supplement companies have to pay if you are excepted. These educational videos are great especially if need good explanations . Thanks Matt for all the time you give for those who need explanations. Well done.

I just retired as an insurance agent and now newly on Medicare starting after age 65. I initially applied for Plan G but changed to Plan N before it went into effect. The key is that the Co-pays are not for every medical treatment. Initial savings is about $30-40 monthly, and I expect the premium increases to be lower than on G. I wish I had presented Plan N more frequently when I was an agent.

One mantra i find myself repeating to people over and over again, "You should get today the insurance plan you will want to have when you are sick or injured, because once you are sick or injured you cannot change supplement plans." Your comment point to that exactly. You are stuck in one of the best health insurance plans in available anywhere. Not a bad place to be stuck in. 😃

That's the biggest worry for me going into this: the idea that you have to choose correctly the first time because you may never be able to change. The same is true for those who abandon Medicare for an advantage plan. If that "too good to be true" private insurance plan begins to delay and deny medical care -- as seems to happen more and more -- you may not be able to come back. Scary stuff.

@@MedigapSeminars The premium differential between plans N and G has only grown larger in the last 4 years. I’d rather have plan G and not have to track the small $20 copays, nut it doesn’t make financial sense to spend the extra dollars for the higher premium. By the way, I had my first telephone Dr. Visit and it was billed with a specific billing code for that, so it was covered 100% by Medicare and my supplement. It was not billed using the regular codes for in person office visits. No copay.

I'm a "peace of mind" kind of person, but I also live in New York, where Open Enrollment is year-round and one can switch plans easily, with no medical underwriting allowed. So I'm leaning toward HDG, because the rates are way, way cheaper than either plan N or plan G ($60 a month, vs. $194 and $245, respectively). I know that there's some risk involved, because I've had some serious health issues, so if I'm hospitalized unexpectedly the HDG will ultimately cost me more...but only by a few hundred dollars, so I figure that the risk is worth the more likely scenario, which is that I'll save a lot of money. I'm 64 and not eligible to apply for Medicare until next summer, so I'm not 100% decided yet.
(P.S.- Thank you for your videos...they are straightforward and easy to follow and understand. I'm finding them to be very helpful.)

Plan N for me. As usual, I very clear and informative video. However, I wish you would have talked more about High Deductible G and the personality type that chose that plan over G or N.

I'm in FL and currently G. Since watching this video, I'll be making some calls to compare pricing but if I cant get a lower G premium, I'll be an N. Thank you!

Why waist your time calling a gazillion insurance companies when one conversation with us will do the trick? medigapseminars.org/contact-us/ By the way, FL is an issue age state. That makes the importance of finding the right insurance company critical because it is more difficult to lower your price when you change.

Thanks for the video. I like your no bs explanation of these two most popular plans. My personality is if I can get a better deal by driving a few blocks further, I will do it if the cost of my driving is reasonable and I have the time to do it. It's not always about cost and peace of mind for me. It's also quality of care and quality of life. At my age, I haven't decided where I'll live during retirement. Sounds like the cost of these plans and how difficult to switch to a different insurance or plan depend on the state. So this is now another factor for me to consider. I remember in one of your videos you pointed out that without underwriting, insurance companies would just raise price to everyone. Not my cup of tea.

I signed up for plan n with Cigna and my husband switched from G with another insurer. Cigna has a lower price for couples so we are saving well over a hundred dollars a month. I am even happier now, after learning some new things from your video (re diagnostic vs treatment visits and excess charges). I will add that an annual checkup is free from Medicare. You were correct, we are the type of people who always try to save money on our bills.

    Matthew,
Based on the helpful videos and personal support you've provided, I decided on Plan G and selected a company you recommended. I'm a "peace of mind" person and very pleased with my decision.

I will be a Plan N based on the facts available currently. Btw, thanks again for your quotes. I appreciate the fact that you were nice enough to give me a quote even though I'm 63 and change. I look forward to calling your office in 2024 when I'm a few months away from 65. Thanks again, Mike.

You are welcome. By the way, in most states you can apply for a supplement up to six months before your initial Medicare start date, just to get the process out of the way.

Per one of your earlier videos on Part D coverage with low premium plans, I got a solicitation from the customer service rep when I called to pay my premium for the 2024 Part D plan regarding attempting to switch to a Medicare Advantage Plan. Caveat emptor everyone! My friendly reply: Not in a thousand years.😀

@@MedigapSeminars Yes, if they discontinue the plan due to the low premium cost and the Medicare changes, they lose the ability to upsell. Of course, there are other techniques, such as formulary changes, that could be altered.
