Brandon I’ve been following you for years I love the page brotha. I have a 1987 e140txcua I changed the whole ignition system from original to cdi due to a no spark situation, now the motor sounds like shit. Revs high the. Slows down and dies. At this pint you might be the only dude to help
You obviously know what your doing...I have a '91 johnson 40hp with electric start and power T/T I'm going from a tiller to remote steer. I'm have trouble with what harness (part #) to order. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, love your channel
I'm in the process of a rebuild of a 30 Johnson, and upgrading to the Deutsch connector. My question is, are all the earth's required? There is one on the exhaust cover, one from solenoid attachment point, and one on the lower cover, near fuel inlet. Would like to connect the earth ( black), from the Deutsch to the solenoid earth connector, as the exhaust cover gets hot,and think its a bad connection point. Would that be OK? Thanks.
Not all engines have them, Usually, they are found on tiller electric start engines - this being a red-plug remote controlled engine, it would use the safety switch built into the controller. A lot of earlier years had them too; pretty much a any that used a simplex controller.
Hey Brandon, I just installed a third party mophorn control box for my 2015 Mercury 25 HP outboard. It has a 14 pin connector on it. I cannot get the ignition key to start the boat. Does the 14 pin harness not control that? There are other wires coming out of the control box but I assumed they were for the dash instruments. Could one of them be the ignition wire? Thank you in advance!
I've figured it out. Brandon is right, could be any color. I just follow the wire from the neutral safety switch to the coils. My black with brown wire isn't on that small plug like his. Mine comes from the power pack that connects to the spark coils. I simply sauder my black with brown wires to the new red wire harness.
Naw, $130ish on eBay. (You need 581973) Something is weird with the late 70's to early 80's harness wiring; the stuff just falls apart. I would avoid buying something used for this era. To answer your question, chances are the $50 harness will work fine, but may have a different end on it for the overheat alarm, power-pack, or choke.
You would have to cut and splice the old one out, and replace it with a fuse holder. If the harness is in good shape, I would just buy the proper replacement fuse. It'll cost the same as a replacement fuse block, but leave the wiring in tact and splice free.
Great job man, it can easily be overwhelming but you made it very understandable. Thank you very much

What color wire is the neutral safety switch? For a 78 35hp evinrude.
On the engine? I could be black, could be white w/ black. Could be yellow w/ red stripe.
Thank you @BrandonsGarage. I guess if it reaches, it's the one 😅
I think I got it now. Red/yellow from starter to neutral switch then to (s) on the control side plug.
