    Now *this* is tasteful virtuosity. Not aggressively slapping at a million mph. Thanks Sir.

    Bobby, and Nathan East are the only two bass players I know that can entertain you by themselves.

    I bought one just like that in 1964. Played it through a tube type Bassman amp. Thought it sounded pretty good. Wish I had it now. :(

    Every single time I see Bobby Vega play either his famous Precision Basses and or Jazz Basses. He shows a wrinkle to his game/arsenal I didn't know he had. Is there anything this man can't play as a bassist. You can show him something and he'll straight play it back even better.

    The 1st real Bass (had a cheap Ventura first) was a Pre-CBS 1964 Precision just like this one! Unpaid $200 for it in 1970. I played in garage, church, and a Party bands with it until 1977 when my guitar player talked me into getting Ricky 4001 because, "Everybody was playing them!" McCartney, Geddy, Chris Squirer...Worst mistake I ever made buying that and selling my P. A year later I bought by new band's guitar players brothers '73 P Bass for $200. The '64 was the best Bass I've EVER played. I love my '73 and bought a '64 Jazz Bass which is also Sunburst with Rosewood neck. The 73 has the narrrow neck at the nut like the '64 any Jazz. You can see both on my YT channel.

      P bass is better than Rickenbacker 4003 for you. I've sold P-bass and I've bought a Music Man Stingray Classic, it's a lot better than P-bass and i own the Ricky too. Fender is very good but is not the better ones today.

    I've seen some other videos of Bobby demonstrating a bass or piece of equipment. You can tell that he digs this bass. He's into it! As for the bass itself, hard to describe the tone -- it's rich and sweet and rough-edged at the same time. Neither my upgraded Squier P-bass nor the Fenders hanging in stores today sound like that -- at least I don't think they do! Maybe I've been missing out. And that palm-muted pick groove -- I'm not a pick player, but this makes me want to give it a go.

  • @Rikkcas
    @Rikkcas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Volume volume? On a P?
    Regardless.. look at the tonal/volume difference when he goes from bridge area to bottom of the neck.
    It’s ALL in the fingers and placement. And the master ear. 👍🏼✌️

  • @Solelova67
    @Solelova67 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have to say it, Bobby Vega is the shit! Funky Bass Picking Mo- Fo and proves all the finger snobs wrong, you can and should use a pick depending on the tune and sound your going for.

    @tbirdtim No, they dont sound better. They sound better to you. A lot of players cannot stand flatwounds. Let the man play his rounds, and he's not "bastardizing" the bass at all.

  • @tbirdtim

    Try the flatwounds. That's what all the legendary players used -- Jamerson, McCartney, Joe Osborn, Carol Kaye.
    They feel AND sound so much better.

  • @matalmike
    @matalmike 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Flats don't bring out the harmonics like round wounds.Flats are good for r/b but r/w on a P bass are awesome for rock.....

  • @tbirdtim
    @tbirdtim 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Round wounds are like fingernails on a chalkboard.

  • @YDG97
    @YDG97 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    this sounds more like a Jazz bass than a Precision bass

  • @tbirdtim
    @tbirdtim 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yuck, I hate round wounds. Flat wounds just feel AND sound so much better.
    Why would anyone take such a beautiful vintage instrument and bastardize is with those strings. Yuck and Puke.
