I know this vid's old but....he is such a joy to watch. So chill, so cozy, just....very 'home-y'. Definitely among my absolute favorite bassists. Makes all those tricks look so damn easy too!
does anyone know how he does the low E not on 1.30, he just sort of waves his hand away from the bass and half a second later the whole thing starts vibrating i've seen bobby do it before and it's just a beautiful sound, shows his absolute mastery over the instrument
he plucks the string hard sideways with his thumb, closer the neck than the bridge. Because he plucks closer the center of the string, it does not create as many higher harmonics - it generates only the low tone which you don't hear as loud - and because he plucks it sideways, the string does not hit the frets and make a clanking sound. Then, over the course of a second or so, the vibration of the string changes direction (which will always happen because you cannot pluck a string perfectly in one direction), so it begins hitting the frets as it vibrates up and down, which makes higher harmonics of the string ring out. All of this happens very fast, but that is what creates the swell effect
Because he has never marketed himself as a frontman or solo act. He is first and foremost a session player and now he goes around and does masterclasses as well. It's no one's fault, he just never tried to represent himself as the big guitar hero.
it was actually called precision in 1956. This is the first version of Precision. Later, in the 70's they reissued this look and called it Telecaster bass :)
So much to learn from one player! What a talent.
Could listen to this gentleman all day playing and talking bass.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuu…..that take on Wind Cries, was pretty awesome! ( I shouldn’t be surprised…Bobby Vega is the man)
Dig that savage percussive style. Nobody can play like Bobby. Nobody!!!
god of bass.. who else watches bobby vega everyday?
Bobby is my Hero ,
made in 1956 that bass Bobby and I ,
I can't believe I'm 61 holy crap.
Mark B such a coincidence
What an wonderful bass player and what a beautiful bass.
Bobby Vega Is my hero. Sweet playing.
He could make a tin can with a string sound good.
Bobby plays the most MELODIC lines on that beautiful ‘56 “P” bass. Keep on pickin’, Bobby!
Some really nice, musical playing there Bobby.
Keep in mind Bobby could make a 2X4 strung with pieces of twine sound good : ) Big love for Bobby V.....
love & learned a lot from your playing--Great!
Bobby Vega is Da Man! I'm picking up a Custom Shop '55 NOS P-Bass tomorrow. If it sounds half as good as this one, I'll be ecstatic.
Amazing Bobby!
Awesome playing! Just goes to show what a talented player can do with the simplest of basses.
Bobby u're the coolest !
Bobby you're the man
That style of playing actually sounds quite nice on an older style instrument.
sounds so clear!
Amazing player

Thumbs up. You belong to the good ones!

Why isn't Bobby Vega more famous?
because all people want now a days is shitting meaningless love songs
Because the US is populated by assholes who watch American Idol.
Because he has never marketed himself as a frontman or solo act. He is first and foremost a session player and now he goes around and does masterclasses as well. It's no one's fault, he just never tried to represent himself as the big guitar hero.
very difficult to be famous being a bass player... !
Being famous means nothing. The number of top artists he has played for speaks for itself. He is a go to session and tour man.
Very nice lesson maan!

2nd version, actually. The 1st had a slab body.

Money Money Money and The Wind Cries Mary with The Pick
And the wind cries Mary.................
Amazing playing, as always. Bobby, you're fan-bloody-tastic!
Great tone, too. What strings were/are on that bass (if you remember)?
whatdidyoucallme?
thanks for the info :)
what kind of bass do i have? you can see it in my rock &roll collab.. thanks
what strings are there ?
1:23 tone resembles to that of Sheehan's Attitude Bass.
Soz to bother but what amp are you using to get that awesome vibe?
All P-Basses are funky in the mid-range, than their siblings
The amp is a Glokenklang....
Ok, how much better would this sound with flatwounds?
Precision basses have a funky sound in mid range compared to a jazz bass, their siblings.
What do you mean? :)
Is that ash or alder body?
+Bass Treble - most likely Alder since there is very little grain to see.
Picked P bass is super dirty. straight up....
Doesn't get much punchier than that bass.
Bobby, what planet are you from? It ain't earth.
the string is Flat?
Gerlando Callea no, those are round wounds. Should be flats
With all due respect but, using a pick and round wound strings on a 56 Precision calls for an anvil across the forehead..
Looks like a Telecaster bass to me ...
it looks like a telecaster bass :/
