I used to be Christian myself. Within these last six months, I started questioning, and found my answer. I am now atheist and I feel so free. I had a nightmare last night however that I was judged by God and sent to hell. I woke up realizing that it's all a bunch of bullcrap, but unfortunately, I was exposed to religious brainwashing for 18 years, and that's what it does to a person.

I don't know how I ever aquired this ability, but I have been able to take control of myself in a dream and stop it. I won't bother with why it happened, but because of circumstances in my life I was having really bad nightmares. During one of these nightmares, in which some really hair raising shit was happening, I simply stopped what I was doing in the dream and layed down and closed my eyes. As soon as I closed my eyes I would wake up thus ending the dream. I was able to do this every time after that.
I am going to research what you suggested. Although I am not having the same nightmares any longer, it would be nice to end them without having to wake up, if they ever start occurring again.
The last bit I had to let go of was fear, listening to Matt helped me to overcome this.

Also what would happen if any of those list of people you've described above *genuinely* have an epiphany moment at the end of their lives and see the error of their ways and *genuinely* accept Christ as their savior and repent. Even as a kid I couldn't understand how an all powerful god kept messing up and have to start over again. Listening to Matt helped me to finally let go of all of these crazy fantasy beliefs.

Matt as an ex catholic brought up in the West of Scotland in the sixties and seventies in a family of Irish decent I'm sure you can imagine the guilt trip that was laid down on on when in my early teens the blinkers fell away and I seen the the church and religion in general for what it is. Anyway thanks a million for sharing the Atheist Experience and all your other talks and debates I am in awe at your self control when dealing with the termialy deluded such as Sye Ten

Hi vicky. I often wish I could see God, have Him sit and talk to me. I even once after a car accident, said okay I am not a Christian. I sat and told myself, now what? I felt His spirit distance himself from me. That went on for a few weeks. I remember feeling empty inside. I was at church and said please come back to me. I did feel His presence and it felt like a cool breeze on a hot day.
I have a video called "the privileged planet". If you can find it, you will be amazed at our place in the universe. Everything around us is designed, I know that God is the designer. I know that I always want more from God. But it is clear to me that God is really in control. Before you decide to believe this man, read the Bible and let God speak to you. 💛

You are not very bright This is question begging. It assumes A. A Jesus existed. B. They consciously spread lies. I guess its never occurred to you that the people actually believed the nonsense and died for it not knowing it was nonsense. Dying for something doesn't prove it was real! In fact Jews were dying for their beliefs at that time in spades. The Maccabees revolts involved martyrs who would rather die , and DID, than eat UNCLEAN FOOD. They died over FOOD. None of the epistles mention ANYTHING about a historical Jesus. At least six of Pauls epistles are proven FORGERIES :)

History does not prove a Jesus There are NO contemporary sources that talk about a historical Jesus and in fact we know interpolations (FORGERIES) were put into various histories by LYING Christians in a desperate attempt to try and prove their Christ :) Perfect example is Josephus.

The Tower of Babel sounds like pure comedy gold to witness.
Big construction site, gazing Babylonian sun most likely behind schedule and everyone is grumpy as hell. then out of the blue every worker start yelling angry gibberish at each other in a hundred different languages.
Halick sounds pretty much like any big construction site in the UK. Without the sun of course.
The real story is worse. God actually came down and destroyed the tower and killed most of the people.

"guilt cycle" exactly. this is why just about ANY thing that's "fun" is something that's in some way a "sin". be it alcohol, sex/masturbation, pot, even things like over-eating, or in some cases even extending it to ANYTHING you enjoy at all, like watching movies, video games, even basic hobbies (sometimes these are called 'idol' worship). anything that can be identified as something that you as a person particularly enjoy, so that it can be turned against you, and that it can be used to "tether" you to the church, since you are likely to continue wanting them, (and since forcing yourself not to do the things you enjoy will only make you want them all the more.)

I absolutely love the closing speech, not that I didn't enjoy the entirety of this video. It's just the last part, and the analogy of the giant, spoke volumes and will likely fall on deaf ears when it comes to many "believers" which is unfortunate.

"all those great thinkers are just 'too dumb' to understand my brilliance"; This is the exact argument i hear from Creationists and Flat Earthers. They can't do basic math, but their ideas apparently are more correct than those of people who done it all their lives and actually worked out the science behind it, and had checked and confirmed by other people.
They quote bible verses about how foolish we are without taking into account the foolishness of believing such extraordinary claims without evidence. Indoctrination is one hell of a brain blocker.

Its a great summary for all religion. We are better off with it.
But the christians say that Eve was deceived, but not Adam. What's this good/evil-thing about in the first place? So Eve sinned by making her own decision and not asking Adam and Adam choosed intentionally to sin because he loved Eve. How is it then in any snese fair to them to let them be punished? If they were perfect, but sinned, then how could they possibly have been perfect if perfect mean that you never sin?

Justification of X is required to believe in X.
Presuppositions have no justification.
Conclusion:
Presuppositions are not beliefs.
The moment you attempt to justify a presupposition you aren't presupposing it anymore.

C = Presuppositions are unjustified beliefs. That is, presuppositions cannot be believed or disbelieved. They are still beliefs (conceptually), they just shouldn't be believed.
Also "Justification of X is required to believe in X" should say either "Being convinced of X is required to believe in X" or "Justification of X is required to reasonably/rationally believe in X". In the latter case, the conclusion would be "Presuppositions are not reasonable beliefs".
BuchMaster Zero I only mentioned it because in the video he said that you cannot choose to believe in something. You either believe or you don't believe. That belief is the state of being convinced. I think that presupposing something is not the state of being convinced. If you are convinced of something there is no need to presuppose it.

Not believing is the state of not being convinced. I think you're trying to address two sides of an argument as if they are one.
For example, take the statement 'X is either true or false'. The assertion of non-belief in X (not being convinced that X is true) is not the assertion that X is false. It is a fact that it is either true or false, but 'X is false' is a separate assertion and does not necessarily follow from a rejection (not being convinced) of the truth claim.
Saying 'I am not convinced that X is true' is a neutral position; it offers no belief. That's why I said "C = Presuppositions are unjustified beliefs. That is, presuppositions cannot be believed or disbelieved.

If they think that they can get truth from the conclusion then it might be a belief? Otherwise it seems like a hypothetical syllogism to me. In hypotheticals you don't need to believe what you are asserting.
I guess I am equating presuppositional premises with a hypothetical premise.

I've changed my tactic a bit when a believer tries to convert or sway me. Rather than getting into word definition games, or burden of proof discussions, or evidence discussions, I just start of with, "Let's assume for the sake of this discussion that everything in the bible is true, it's fact, it actually happened and correctly depicts God, Jesus, et al. Now, why should I love God, why should I praise and worship him? Other than creating our lives in what way has he earned our love and praise. Because the bible I have read depicts this being as quite the villain, a monster. But please, give me some reasons to love and worship this being."

as much as I love these theistic/atheistic debates...after hearing so many of them they really are getting tired...yea yea, I'm as rogue as any 15 yo...but I certainly think much more mature than that...but I still have the same rebellious nature...and that's just it: my nature....so I think and grow up...religionist: "I'll pray for you"; C. Hitchens: "and I'll THINK for you."
I wonder... Just heard the bible quote with, Jehovah (alone? Or getting a posse of gods together?) "Let us go down and..." That and other quotes have fueled debate that the Jews were originally polytheists. But it made me think of something else. The "royal we". How it became a widespread thing for kings and queens to refer to themselves as "we". I wonder if the Royal We...stems from the Divine We. (After all, kings claimed "divine right" to rule.) And if the Divine We came from "you didn't sufficiently edit out the polytheism from your monotheistic book there Moses".
When i began questioning the existance of God esp thr Christian god, I had so many problems with how nothing made sense. But my last thing to do was read the bible again and see if it explains anything or if it even wad accurate . thats whete Matt has helped as it saved me time to study the bible to find these flaws, he brought them right to my attention and showed me exsctly what i needed to see to finally have a answer i could stand behind on the existamcr of God: no. And now I struggle to find meaning in life...it hasnt been a great thing finding out the truth, but it atleast is the truth. And now i learn to cope .
The tower of Babel story always reminds me of the Akalabêth, the Downfall of Numenor in the Second Age. It makes more sense if you see it in the setting that once upon a time Heaven was actually reachable if you only went high enough - just like Valinor could once be reached by simply sailing to the West.
So a Tower was actually a threat to the dominion of God over the celestial realm who, in a very Oedipal sense was afraid of being usurped and replaced by his own creation just like when the Men of Numenor, being envious of the immortality of the Firstborn, assembled a grand armada and sailed onto Valinor seeking to conquer it.
And in the same way as the Valar, in their destruction and sinking of the realm of the Numenòrians, also detached Valinor from Middle Earth and made it inaccessible to all but the Eldar, so too heaven was subsequently detached after the events of the Tower of Babel so that God did not have to fear assault by mortals anymore.
This version of the mythology makes for a much better story, it's more entertaining, more dramatized, and the character of God is much more well rounded as an antagonist (or protagonist depending on your point of view). Of course Tolkien's version is still better because not only does it explain the Sinking of "Atlantis" but it also explains why the earth was once flat and is now round: so that no matter how far Men sail westwards they will never again the Holy Land of Aman, instead now merely arriving back where they started.

I wish you could get booked some place that would want you to do the 1st version of this (as God) again. Since the original has some audio problems. It would be nice to have a clear recording. It's one of my favorites.
I went to the Sydney event and Matts talk was a little disappointing when he was doing it from God's perspective. The message is a lot clearer in this version.

My mom has stage 4 cancer and I'm needing advise on how I'm gonna get over not seeing her again after she's gone. At least , I don't believe I'll see her again , I'm not sure what's after this life , if anything. But being raised chriatian and being told you'll see loved ones again in heaven and then finding out that it is probably a lie is a very unnerving thing to think about. But I've gotten over other loved ones dying and I didn't believe I'd see them again , and my stepdad dies while I gave him cpr and I didn't think I'd see him again , so maybe I can somehow get over my mom's death before it even happens , somehow. Advice from anyone who cares to give it is greatly appreciated
Jay Rogers give it a time. Nothing is forever , We all have ticking clock. Enjoy your life as much as you can. If there is a god, where was God, when kids get abused or killed, starve to death , what kind of God denies babies, children’s basic necessity for living and then demands thankfulness? simply cannot forgive a god who stands by and watches while kids die from lack of water, that the basic necessities of life.

My mom died 25 years ago, my dad died last year. I have been in chronic pain for many years.
God told us "this is not our home." This life is the journey, the destination is heaven. He did heal some people, but not all. I would love it if God would take away my pain. But as much as I want this miracle in my life or for anybody that is sick, God promised that He would walk with us. I have constant pain, I have few friends, I have been to so many Dr's and no one knows what is going on in my body. In the Bible in the book of Hebrews, it talks about unanswered prayer. So from where I stand, I thank God for His promise and I will be in a place that will not have sickness or sorrow. This man is saying, stay in the car and never get out. God said something like, get in the car and drive for a while, when you do stop and get out of the car you will see that the car was your journey and you are now at your distination. We do have purpose in this life. Read and study your Bible. I know you will find rest for your soul.

We are all born atheists, but some of us are indoctrinated as children. I believed the world was 6000 years old until I was 27. I wasn't an atheist until I was 30, the human brain is capable of some amazing things, and not all are good (especially the faith bit).

Isn't it that they wanted to make themself a name - to become famous for their acheivments? (Refering to the story of the tower of Babel) Christains aruge that only God deserves such glory. Isn't it natural to want to be proud of what you have done?
The problem is, Christianity shows a deep level of narcissism in the Christian god. Believers are commonly, routinely asked to give honor to god, even for their most minute or great accomplishments. How disgusting is that? Imagine if a parent was to appropriate his or her child's accomplishments. We humans would rightfully see that as really messed up. But label the narcissistic personality "god", and such behavior is seen as justified and moral.
Like, what the flying fuck? Religion is so abnormal. It's a mind aberration, for sure.
